DelhiGunner: Let’s keep the faith with Wenger’s kids

Posted on June 07, 2011 by admin

Today we have a new Guest Post from DelhiGunner, who has just moved the url of his blog to blogspot and wants to tell my readers about it. You can now find it at this link – Delhi Gunners. Today he is talking about the futility of wishful thinking in the transfer market……

What About Our Current Fringe Players by Delhi Gunners

Now as one might expect, the transfer rumors are circulating around the web as fast as Bolt himself. And you’d think you’re somewhat in a dream when the likes of Benzema, Falcao, Higuain, Hazard and co are all linked at the same time to your favorite club. And then comes everyones Dream XI for the next year. I confess even I like to do such things but are they really worth it.

Here’s the point I’m trying to make.

The core of this Arsenal team is well and truly there and all it needs is some tweaks here and there. That probably means around 2-3 or at max. 4 new players combined with the young-blooded youth players. There’s wouldn’t even be that many changes in the first team though. Just one or two. So is it safe to say that with a Parker or a Samba or even a Benzema in our team, would we seriously improve? Remember it’ll be their first season with us and to make a straight impact at a club like Arsenal is, to put it politely, not an easy task.

It’s not that no one does that. Some actually do. But that number is very minute. Especially those players coming from outside the club, or in a worse case, outside the country. That’s why Wilshere and Szczesny are now first-team regulars. And Squillaci is not. I agree that Koscielny and, to a lesser extent Chamakh, have had a very solid first season in England but we all know how Chamakh faded in the 2nd half.

Like the last season, I expect our own youth players to outperform the players brought from outside. Its not that I’m saying the new signings would be worthless as they won’t be. A Parker will provide much-needed depth and steel to our midfield. Any goal-poacher will finish the ample chances our forwards love to create and miss. A versatile defender would add quality and quantity to our back-line. But the impact won’t be huge. It ain’t supposed to be. And even if it isn’t, these players are required. For me, to provide freshness to the squad. A spark which we’ve lacked recently. A leader to man up the team when it gets tough. But that doesn’t mean he has to be from outside. A look at Wilshere this season supports my argument.

So all in all, no matter how little minority of fans might accept this, new players would in most cases fail to make a very big impact. There might be an exception. That’s what I hope for. But it will have to be the current players to step it up to show the world what “The Arsenal” stands for.

very poetic but utter nonsense.we need to spend if only to lift the players/supporters and show we are a big club.At the moment we are losing ground that may never be recovered.

Well said, and I agree that simply bringing in players will not be the answer but we do need some injections. The only reason I can see that might force Wenger to buy big is if both Nasri and Fabregas leave.

We all know that our first team is good. We can beat any team on our day, so its a matter of consistency. And bringing players in won’t guarantee consistency, although some may argue that bringing gritty players like Parker will do that. But its not a guarantee that the whole team will follow.

So yeah, mass changes is not whats needed, but a few tweaks. But the current players have to look at themselves and see what went wrong. It is the mentality, and unless you buy a whole new team, that change will have to come from within.

Ok but if you think about it, the squad didn’t need that much to make excellent results this season. The likes of samba, parker and benzema could have made enough difference to bring trophies. But there’s no need to torture ourselves about what could have happened. I’m more concerned about what will happen and if nasri and fabregas leave, I’m affraid that these new (potential) arrivals will only be a compensation for the losses, and something is still going to miss. Of course the young gunners as wilshere, ramsey, JET, gibbs, frimpong, bartley or miyaichi can have a chance to fight for a place in the squad, and I really hope all of them will become world class, but they are still so young!
Let’s hope that the recruitment is really going to be as we expect it to be: ambitious.
I also think that koscielny was quiet impressive this year, and could be even more next season.
And concerning the possible new striker, I would like to suggest you a name: alexandre pato. I think he has the quality to play for arsenal and could be easier to convince that benzema, falcao or higuain because of the time he spends on the bench.
In wenger I trust! viva la evolution!

Im sorry this is pretty deluded. keep the faith? we kept the faith 3 seasons into a trophy famine and after a fourth and fifth now a sixth. when should we question him? after 9 seasons when we are mid table fodder?

that execption will be hazard!! if fab goes stick nazzer in the mid with hazrd on the left with arshavin as back up, then on the right we will have wee willy walcott and oxlade and ryo!! loan rosicky to MLS get him fit, he can back up rambo jacky and nasri. Buy 1 DM to compete with song( frimpong coud step in too!!) Get 1 GREAT CB, and Falcao or any out and out finisher whick we lack. I still have faith in chamachk, but 3 quality strikers are needed in any good team. remember we have lots of good kids coming through!! but RVP needs somone who he can rely on up front, when he is not performing at 100%. THINGS ARENT AS BAD AS LOTS OF YOU THINK!!All of you who slate arsene wenger like you do have absolutley NO real knowledge of the beautiful game. What wenger has acheived on the money he has spent could not be matched by anyone, is it any wonder real madrid wanted him over mourinho!? they know that arsenal play total football bettered only by barca! so if they gave him 100 million imagine what he could do. not only this Arsenal are financially sound, Man U and Barca are in a shit load of debt!!( plus money has only been available for 1 year from usmanov, and you cant blame wenger for having faith in a team capable of beating barca) Wenger to me looks like a man who has realised he has done what he can with the money he spends and wants to enjoy winning again and to silence the hateful english media. honestly i cant believe some of you so called fans, you accuse our players of not loving our club, but do you? I know wenger does, and despite is stubborn streak and his over faith on young players, he DOES NOT deserve the stick some of you spuds in desguise give him. LOVE GUNS

even if nobody left there is obviously something missing. Centre half, DM, full back, or centre forward? My guess is we do not have the right blend to play the formation that Wenger wants to play. That could be that the experience is not there, it could be the ability. But one thing is for sure if we want to stay in touch we will need to improve, if we want to do better then big changes are required.

I personally think we need a captain that is committed to the cause, he needs to play more than half the matches. We need some height in midfield and defence, Wenger has admitted that already, he also admitted we need more solidity. Lets face it, Squillaci, Eboue, Clichy, Djourou and Koscielny are far from solid. Wilshire, Fabregas, Song, Nasri and Ramsey are all lacking in height. If Lehmann and Almunia both leave, we will be lacking an experienced keeper and up front we need a 30 goal striker or at least another 20 goal striker. Chamakh, could prove to be that, even Walcott or Arshavin.

I sort of disagree with this. What if arsenal did
By an experienced 29+ player who has proven quality
It would provide them solidity and leadership.
    For me, Fazza isn’t a captain. A captain doesn’t
Hug opposition Players before the match(Barcelona)
So if we did buy someone like Parker, it would create
A solid vibe and give the team confidence and to keep
    Calm under pressure.

  13. WOLF says:

HAHAHAHAHA why on earth would we consider buying pato. The reason why he spends so much time on the bench is because he’s constantly hurt.

Who we buy heavily depends on who goes. So lets say Denilson, Bendtner, Rosicky, and Clichy go. Realistically I can see us going after Gervinho because he can play anywhere on the top 3. I personally think he would be a great addition. Hazard coming with him would make it better not cause of his obvious talent but bringing in the two would help them settle faster. But…since hazard isnt coming I see Ryo coming into the first team if he gets his passport. As for the replacements for Denilson and Rosicky, I think it will further promotions in Lansbury and Frimpong unless we get a Parker or M’Vila. I think everyone knows that if Clichy goes we will most likely go after Baines or again just promote Gibbs to starter.

Now the tricky part comes with Bendtner as I think he will dictate what happens with Cesc and Nasri. I truly believe that Nasri wants to stay but only if we spend some money on some quality talent. The biggest name that will arrive in Arsenal this summer will be the one to replace Bendtner. If he does go this is where I believe where Wenger will go after a Benzema, Higuain, or Falcao. According to Wenger and Wilshere and Walcott it seems pretty likely that Nasri and Fab will be staying as they all said in order to win next year those two need to be at Arsenal.

Let’s all hope for a top striker coming in so we can go back to the good ol’ 4-4-2!

Quite frankly, a guy like Falcao, Colombian, far away from home, in a UCL winner club, winning Europa league…not my usual example for a player that might not make it the 1st year at Arsenal.

Not talking about Benzemas or others that are in other situations, but him? I would sign him in a heartbeat. Samba and maybe aonther HMF or CB.

Even after our relegation form at the end of the season, you still think that there is something knee-jack about the fans reaction? You need to get real and face he problem squarely. Aother term with the crew the way it is at the moment, would see us in serious trouble. We need a hard man in the midfield who is not afraid to put in a tackle and not liable to be pushed about, and at least one tall centre back with strength, who is commanding and good in the air. Perhaps we also need a keeper.

  17. richie says:

signings Samba would be great. And I would really kike us not to miss out on Hazard. Strikers, well I give my hope on wenger making another Henry like signing.

But my concern is the same that has been happening for the past 6 seasons, and that is selling our best players when they request bigger salaries ( not the biggest in this football industry, but certainly an average salary amonng very top footballers)… so with that i see that this team at the end of the season will lack of motivation and commitment once again, so everything would be pointless if we remain that cheap.

  18. Charlie says:

There is a lot of sense to this blog because any great team does not appear overnight. A great team is always based on long-term progression, a few tweaks to a moderatelty successful formula, and it will be the existing players who need to make the biggest impact. Reading about current players saying that the team needs new signings is depressing because what you want to hear from the players in your team is “my performances weren’t good enough for the team and i need to improve my game next season”. To say we need new players is to avoid taking personal responsibility. Yes we want new signings but we don’t want the players to want new signings because they should have enough confidence in themselves and their teammates to be able to do the job. Nasri for example is one of the main culprits for the teams’ collapse at the end of the year but never has he said that he needs to be more consistent himself.

Great Post!!! I for one like Wilshere and Ramsey a heck of a lot!! I am also a fan of Song, walcott and of Course Fab. Had we bought to many big name players would any of them be even back up players? What about chamack and Kos they were not all bad and now we want them to be 4th choice.

I think a couple of good buys are always good. They bring fresh enthusiasm. The players we buy though need IMHO to be more about attitude than skill. I am not suggesting we take a rubbish player but if two players are linked lets sign the harder of the two.

Nasri, Fab, Walcott, arshavin, Clichy they are all good players but are very soft even song lacks mental toughness. Look at Jack as a good example of the attitude im talking about, Viera had it as did Adams, Keown and various others and they the players you need against Stoke etc.

Form me its just a couple of good strong hard players preferably 1 at CB and we will be fine

Jake. You may be correct 6 years is a long time but i am just agreeing with the Author that change may take a little more than a season. 2/3 Quality signings will make me happy but I Do see why others want more. I think though if we are going to sign 6/7 then at least half must be from the premier league.

I fully expect walcott at cf next season. We need a couple of wingers. Menez and gervinho sound good. Even if fabregas goes, we can play a 4-4-2 with walcott and rvp up front, OR chamakh and walcott when rvp gets injured. wilshere and song will be good enough for central mid, with diaby and ramsey backing up, alongside frimpong and lansbury.
We need only a first team rcb(like samba), and a leftback in case clichy goes.

  26. Fan says:

Arsenals problems are not in midfield and attack they are in defence. Samba will help with winning premiership. Champions league needs best defenders in world!!!

    Juan – Roma & Brazil

Lucio – Inter Milan & Brazil

Per Mertesacker – Werder Bremen & Germany

Lots of people will not agree with me but Japan have one of best defences in world football( I think they have conceded about two goals in there last twenty games)

The teams that win things always have at least one or two of the most in form defenders in the world. Djourou and koscielny probably will be in the future become the worlds best defenders; but not in the next three years. Not a single arsenal defender has been one of the worlds best defenders since tony adams and sol campbell!

My point is there is no point scoring a hundred and fifty goals in a season if you are going to concede a hundred.
