Dennis Bergkamp To Return To Arsenal?
There has been plenty of talk lately about Arsenal’s need for a defensive coach with the likes of Martin Keown and Steve Bould being mentioned, but there is a report today suggesting that Dennis Bergkamp could be the man that Arsene Wenger turns to.
Dennis Bergkamp back at Arsenal. Now that would make many a Gooner happy this morning as they tuck into their elevenses. Bergkamp, 42, is currently working at Ajax where is is assistant to Frank de Boer and the Daily Star says that Arsene Wenger is considering a move for the legendary Dutchman.
Bergkamp has spoken in the past about his love of Arsenal and his wish to work in England. In 2009 he was quoted as saying, “I really love this club (Arsenal) and the country. I want to work and train a team in England. Not as a head coach, but, instead as a member of staff, where I could work specifically with the strikers.”
Bergkamp as a footballer was articulate and a ultimate professional and I think I speak for many in saying that this is one signing that we have to make. Just hearing the name Dennis Bergkamp and Arsenal in the same sentence makes me smile. Lets just hope this is one rumour that has some truth to it.

it is not only in d defense that we lack something, i still feel we have a lot to do attackwise. in my opinion, we have a beta defense than barca, but their attack covers them!

Dennis is a legend but he was a striker, how will he assist with the defensive problems?

The whole team needs to learn defence. They have had/are taught an attack mentality, but it needs to be balanced. If the forwards don’t work hard at closing down players and letting them travel half the pitch unchallenged, the defence will have much more work to do, and forwards should keep the ball for as long as possible too, and learn to shoot on target, there have been too many misses(individual target practice).
As the defence also attacks it is obvious that the forwards need to slot in to cover if a defender races forward.
This means more training on this issue, and i hope we get a dedicated defence (or all round)coach too, as AW cannot/does not seem to be able to cope there anymore.

surely any ex arsenal player that expresses a desire to help, no matter how long ago he said it should be snapped up.

Unless… Bergkamp is being brought in to coach our attack, freeing up Wenger to focus more on improving our defense. Whatever the case, I’m not complaining. Bergkamp and Wenger see eye to eye and should have no problems working together. I love Bergkamp and will welcome him back any given time.

Hearing Bergkamp and Arsenal in a sentence makes me smile to!! He is a legend and would give the whole club a huge lift! Theo Arshavin RVP would all learn a lot! The midfielders would learn too! Dennis is the king of the threw ball!! Him and Tony Adams would be brilliant! The two of them would demand instant respect!! And let’s face it, they know what they are talking about!! Plus if those two were at the club they could speak to players that we are after! Think of Tony saying to Cahill come to Arsenal! I’m a former Arsenal and England captain and you can be to!

Fantastic if it happens but AW has just said in an interview that he does not need any help?
So will the Wenger brigade come and tell us that it’s the board that do not want to change the coaching staff?
Wenger is on a different planet if he thinks that the likes of Bergkamp and Adams would not inspire the team.
Bring in the legends and turn things around you stubborn git.

A lot of people talking defensive issues in this thread are being a bit short sighted. How many years have Arsenal been the most attacking team in the league? And how many of those years have Arsenal been the highest scoring team in the league? The answer to the latter is none so go figure.

possible replacement for rice?? I like the sound of that. We all saw rice was out of his league in dortmund. With all due respect to the man maybe its his time. And bergkamp could work under wenger, as the future gaff.

if he work under wenger his brain will be washed by wenger policy n end up with nothing as he got long carrier in manager job.he should do without wenger only they will make him successefull coach.
