Did Wenger tell porkies about Squillaci’s injury?
Sebastien Squillaci is a player that Gooners love to hate. To say he has not had the best of times since he arrived at Arsenal is an understatement, and many supporters were glad when he was dropped from the side with Arsene Wenger claiming he was injured. But was he really injured, or has he been searching for a new employer?
Squillaci last played for Arsenal against Benfica in a pre-season friendly, and has been absent with an injury ever since. On 20 August Arsene Wenger was asked about the availability of Squillaci ahead of the game in Italy against Udinese and said, “No, he has a calf problem.”
Squillaci is now gearing up for a return to training as his so called injury has cleared up. Last week Arsene Wenger said, “Squillaci is one week away.”
It appears now, according to a report in todays Metro, that Arsenal were trying to offload Squillaci during the transfer window and French League One side Evian were close to signing him, but because Arsenal would not contribute to his inflated wages, reported to be around £50,000 per week, the deal fell through. So was Wenger telling porkies about his injury?
With Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny teaming up in central defence in the absence of Thomas Vermaelen, and the likes of Carl Jenkinson and Ignasi Miquel waiting in the wings Squillaci’s days at Arsenal appear to be over, but will he be missed? Personally I think not.

i think more to the point is what it fair to bring him here in the first place?
He was never good enough from the start and at his age was never going to be able to improve or adapt to the levels needed! The team has no cofidence in him and it goes right back to the newcastle game last year when johan came off the squid came on and we fell apart, aint it funny how important johan was last year and now fans have no time for him?
Bottom line for everyones sakes including the squid do everything that is possible to keep the squid away from first team football untill hes moved on, ohterwise it will end badly for everyone.

Why Wenger even signs players like him is beyond me. Why not sign established/known players especially after the fact that we have had a defensive problem for a couple of seasons already? All these custodian players also just end up wasting our money, where instead of buying 3 or 4 crap players like this, we could have one solid defender we know will not surprise us with a let down. We end up losing more money and more importantly GAMES signing up no name defenders like this.
Good riddance I say. Make sure he takes Djoure and Jenkinson with him, then sign up Cahill.

How many players did we truly try to offload before the window closed only to find no real takers due to their wage demands? I’m quite certain Almunia, Bendtner, Squid, etc would all be goners if we weren’t over paying them.

sometimes anger causes to stop thinking, when we bought squillaci he had a reputation of a no nonsense defender who will boost our defence. we even had a luxury to let young player like nordtveit thinking we wouldn’t need has he wanted first team football, yes this was a big mistake.
squillaci failed to settle in the premiership just like veron,chevchenko,rebrov..etc, again it’s down to wenger for the way he hang on to players for too long. almunia, djourou, bentdner,arshavin. i think he should learn from mancini, underperformers should be shown the door as soon as possible and replaced by a better player.

LOL hes a joke cant release him that costs money, no club is mad enough to buy him/pay his wages, cant keep him and run downn his contract thats expensive. i wouldnt even let him on the players coach or sit in the stadium for free.
