Djourou – We really need to beat Shrewsbury!
The Arsenal defender Johann Djourou was one of the players at fault as the Gunners lost to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, but he is adamant that the team have to bounce back by beating Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup match on Tuesday.
Arsenal reached the Final of this competition last season, but the Switzerland international just thinks that his team have to make sure they get a win to restore the confidence in the dressing room.
“When you lose, it is always important to have a response,” Djourou said. “Even if it is at home in the Carling Cup, we want to win so we need a big response on Tuesday.
“We have to bounce back because we have another game and we have to be ready for those. We are disappointed but there is still a long way to go and things are not over yet.
“We had many chances to put the game to bed in the first half and, when you don’t do that, you are always in danger of getting punished. I think that is what happened on Saturday.
“The team is building together and we are getting stronger together,” he concluded. “We could have won the game but this team has got a lot of potential and we have to work hard to be the best.”
Even more importantly, Arsenal need to beat Bolton next weekend to start their long journey back to the top of the Premiership. The Gunners are already 11 points behind the leaders Man Utd and are looking more like Bottom-Four material rather than Top Four. Surely things have to change in the next seven days…..

To win games, you have to have a balanced squad.
In my opinion, wenger didnt do so terrible on the transfer market. But when you buy these players, you got to make shure that the team is balanced again.
The way I see it: you got Vermealen,Mertesacker Arteta,Bennayoun and van Persie. This group of players should be the base of the team, and play if their fit.
If you build the team arround these players, it should be no problem ending up in the top 4.

djorou needs to be sold. he had a pathetic pathetic performance for the short time he was on the pitch. got a yellow card within five minutes and failed with two important tackles. sick of hearing the nonsense of ‘we must win to bounce back’ again and again. we need to beat shrewsbury? since when has that even become an option! worried deeply about this season

I have always said that Djourou does not deserve to play for arsenal he his a very poor defender. Always very sloppy and has no business telling other arsenal players how to beat teams yet he always makes the team more vulnerable at the back .Did you watch that when he replaced sagna how the defence become confused? I agree with johan Djouru.Arsenal must bounce back tomorrow in their carling cup to lift up thir confidence against bolton on saturday.Arsenal sigings are good but they came late which never gave them the chance to blend with the rest of the team.And we also need Edin Hazerd Gary cahill or chris samba by jenuary or els arsenal will be a uefa cup team by next season.

I think that Wenger is too soft on his players. He gives too much of carrots and not nearly enough of sticks. That is why many of them have egos so big that they feel like they have more quality than to play for Arsenal a la Bendtner, Denilson, Nasri, Clichy etc. That is why others like Diaby, Almunia, Djourou, Arshavin, Rosicky, Walcott and Chamakh never perform consistently. If you give this same team to Sir Alex Ferguson, he will bring the best out of them because he will punish any one who is under-performing to the point that he will buck up when given a chance the next time. I do not think there are better managers out there to replace Wenger and I also think that there is no need for that. Wenger needs to borrow a leave from Ferguson in how to treat his players. Many Coaches have learnt a lot from Wenger in the premiership so he should pick up some vital lessons from no less a person than SAF and turn this team around.
There is no reason why someone like Djourou should be speaking to the press after his dismal performances this season. I think that Kyle Bartley and ignasi Miguel should be brought in to take the places of Squillaci and Djourou

Why hate this guy. He must be trying his best, but his best is not good enough. the fact is that Wenger still puts him in the side, This is the mistake as was Arshavan instead of Walcott, Ramsey in for Benyoun and Santos in for Gibbs. These players should be earning their place and only come in when needed and then stay in until they drop their standard. Oldest rule of football never change a winning team, but we haven’t played the same team twice in a row yet. RESULT no consistancy. Another rule for defenders stay on your feet, a rule Djourou has never learn’t. But I don’t hate him I just can’t understand why he and other underperformers repeatedly keep thear place

Mohamed Zubairu – I agreed with you that AW is not getting the best from his players. But I totally disagree that they should be given the stick. That never works, not with with children, not with employees, and not with players. Nobody does well when they have a fear of failure. It gets one focussed on the wrong thing – the failure (and how not to have it), instead of the “success” and how to achieve it. I think there is a lack of Steele in the players at the club. And this is a very dangerous place to be, because this mentality will eventually infect those new acquisitions we have just bought, and we will be exactly back where we started.
Djourou needs to show improvement, or should be replaced. There have been signs of good performances, but seriously, a totally lack of any form of consistency.

last season we are good on attacking but poor on defensive..this seasons we are bad on both occasion..on blacburn game, better put song on the right defend replacing injured sagna..then bring on benayoun..arteta can be a CDM replacing song position!! did wenger use his brain??? oh god..djouru is killing us..same like squilaci..but why they are still on wenger eyes??? please..i dont want to see both face again in this team..!!!

Djourou has a right to his opinion. But he should have kept quiet after the garbage he served against Rovers. “We really need to beat Shrewsbury” he said. Shows you how desperate we have become and how low we have sunk.
Djourou is typical of the mediocrity that now fills the ranks of the Arsenal team. We used to have a team that others were terrified of. Now we have a team that is terrified of others.

thats why i had opted Neven Subotic for Arsenal,i don’t mean Mertesacker is not good but the epl pace will be too hard for him to keep with pls get us defenders who can go for one on one tackles and can defend classically.i hope to see some more quality defenders like Subotic or Hummels at Arsenal come January.but in all i hope the team gets together very soon and play like what Arsenal is not for thus good n excellent possesive football.lets pray for the triumphant return for Wilshere n Verminator to bolster our squad.i want to see this team play Szczesny sagna Verm Kosc Santos Song wilshere Arteta walcott V.persie Gervinho.buh i think our formation must be changed to 4-4-2

Arsenal should sell all its defenders who are ‘potatoes’ like Djourou,Jenkinson,Koscielny,Sagna etc and replace them with elegant people/defenders like Subotic,Chris Samba,Gary Cahill,Michel Bastos,Stephen Warnock,Leighton Baines,Scott Dann,Luke Young,Kabole,Brede Hangeland,Fellaini,Hulk[F.C Porto],Diego Lugano[Uruguay],Otamendi[Argentina],etc so as to strengthen their defense and even be like Man-U because in Man-U’s defense there is very high/stiff competition!

leave djourou alone remeber this is a player that has had injury problems and is just geting use to first xl performances with new partners in kosc and merts last year he was very good with kosc i do agree he isnt ready to start for us but once vermaelens fit he will be a useful back up.
