England STILL wait for clearance on Arsenal’s Jenkinson
I may have jumped the gun a bit yesterday by having a go at Roy Hodgson for not including the young Arsenal right back, Carl Jenkinson, in his England squad to face Sweden in a friendly next week. His name was not included in the squad list released by the FA, but will be included, apparently, as long as he finally receives his clearance from FIFA, Hodgson explained.
“The reason I didn’t include Carl from the start is because we haven’t got clearance from FIFA.
“But we do believe they are going to grant that so by next Wednesday he will be clear to play.
“I didn’t want to put his name down for this squad until such time he was available to play for us.”
Unlike the Jack Wilshere situation, Arsene Wenger is actually keen for Jenkinson to play for England next week, as he believes it will give him a massive confidence boost and aid in his development.
“Carl is a guy with massive potential and I believe the positive of that is it will improve his belief, and that is very important for him in my opinion.”
The last Arsenal right back to play for England was Lee Dixon, and the ITV pundit is very impressed with Jenkinson this season. Dixon also came from the lower leagues and so identifies with Jenkinson. He knows that the youngster has still got a lot to learn but is pleased with his progress so far and thinks that he has got the potential to be a top class player.
“As long as he keeps trying to learn and progress, and not think he’s made it when he’s played 50 games, then he’s got a real chance.”

Carl is a right full back prodigy, he is
one of the bright sparks in our youth
development program. His call up and
participation for the English football
team would only do his playing abilities
and rapidly burgeoning confidence a
lot of good. For now he is not at risk of
being over-played, so I wish him all the
best and hope FIFA don’t take too long in
givig him the clearance.
And yes, I WANT MY ARSENAL BACK O.
Abi is it too much to ask?

I say that we, Arsenal, start to drop the dead-wood and promote the youth. If we aren’t going to buy anyone we may aswell create someone.
Drop Squillaci, Santos, Djourou, etc. and replace them with quality youth such as Eisfield, Yennaris, Gnarby, etc.
The difference between these players is that the youth players will fight every game until the last minute, plus they can’t make many more mistakes than the likes of Squillaci and Santos.

@femi
Carl was bought from the lower leagues, he is not a “Project Youth” prodigy.

He is going to take Sagna’s crown as best right back in the world, not premier league. I’ve been so impressed with him this season. he’s everything we need in a right back. well done Wenger.

@ Scott. Am sorry but I think you may have
misconstrued my commentary. By youth development
program I literarily meant youth development and
not “Arsenal Academy graduants development”. I am
however appreciative of your observation, am much
obliged.
