Espanyol to rival Anzhi for Squillaci in January
It was reported last week that the Russian moneybags Anzhi Makhachkala were keen on rescuing the Arsenal defender Sebastien Squillaci from his nightmare scenario at the Emirates, and Arsene Wenger will be pleased to know that the Spanish side Espanyol are also interested in the ex-French international.
Squillaci arrived at Arsenal from Sevilla in La Liga so perhaps Espanyol have a higher opinion of the 31 year-old than Gunners fans have since his arrival in the Premier League.
With Thomas Vermaelen returned to the Arsenal back line, and the arrival of Per Mertesacker, Squillaci has made just the one Carling Cup appearance this season, and is very unlikely to make any more either!
Wenger turned down a loan request from West Ham in the hope that Arsenal could find a permanent buyer in January, and with now two teams being linked he must be hopeful hat he can let him go, even if he has to reduce the reported £3m asking price. Squillaci cost £6m when he arrived 16 months ago.

It’s ok whichever. Let the guy leave and get first team football elsewhere before he finally hangs his boots.

We must honour the fact he came to arsenal and is an arsenal player, don’t stoop to man citys level, allow him to choose which club instead of taking the highest bidder, the difference will be a matter of 1k,
he was a great player unfortunatley he hasn’t been able to show good form since the arsenal arrival and our options have been of great quality.

Squid has been quiet and humble through his hard time at the Emirates… We must be decent enough to speak nicely and politely about him as he settles his future. He might not have been a great buy for Arsenal as a footballer but he is someone that controls his mouth and that must be respected.

To Doug F:
My fellow fan. The guy came to Arsenal for money just like most footballers. The club pay his wages. Hes hasn’t performed when he has had his chances; goodbye. End of!
No bad feelings from either party. Its business.

Prediction – all sales for AFC and no buys in this transfer window. If 8-2 against Man u = we buy 8 players, a solid run of no losses in any competition = we buy no players. (logical)
Not being pessimistic, but we will never pay more than £25 mil for a player. It simply will not happen. It’s not AW style, and history reflects this. If he actually does pay £25+ mill, I will run naked down my street with nothing but an Arsenal scarf around my neck, shouting “Hail king Wenger” (if you spot it on the news, you’ll know it’s me). ;p
Gooner forever!

@Scott,
Well said mate. Let’s respect a guy who is merely plying his trade as best he can.
I have no respect for Rob or his insulting remarks. He isn’t worthy of cleaning Squillacci’s boots.
