Ex-Arsenal Players Say Break Wage Structure And Buy Experience

Posted on August 25, 2011 by admin

After Arsenal’s successful qualification for the group stages of the Champions League several ex-Gunners are weighing in with their opinions on Arsenal’s future. The consensus is generally that Arsenal need to shell out and bring in some experience to go with the young talent they already have.

Bob Wilson told Talk Sport Radio that they should bring an experienced player who knows the ropes of the Premier League. He said: “There’s a lot of wonderful young talent at Arsenal but I would like to see someone like Scott Parker come in. You’re not going to get masses of years out of him but what that emerging talent needs is a wise head and someone who’s seen it and done it. And he’d be a snippet with regards the Fabregas and Nasri fees.”

Meanwhile former midfielder Graham Rix pointed to the fact that Arsenal are in danger of becoming a feeder club since they can’t compete with the other top sides when it comes to player wages. He told TalkSport: “The problem they are having now is the players they are producing are not going to be paid enough to remain at Arsenal.”

He continued: “Despite all the great players you are going to produce, when they are at their peak they are going to leave and play for another top club.”

The latest news is that Arsenal want to sign M’Villa who at 21 doesn’t really fit the experienced player that is mind of many. On the other hand he is an international and a defensive midfielder so many will be glad it’s at least the right kind of player. Arsenal fans can only hope that Wenger listens to ex-players and brings in some experience.

Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri and Eboue have left.. Who cares? Really, Lool at the history of players that left, and still Arsenal have done great without them.. Players better than those of the likes of Fabregas have left, the club did not fall into pieces.. Money+Transfer market = opportunities…. Luv to Robin van Persie and Jackie Wilsher

Rix is right, we got to break the cap on the wage structure at Arsenal, otherwise when our youth mutures into world class Players, we will be able to keep them, rather then losing them to a team who can pay them what they deserve!! This is the way forward!! THE WAGE CAP MUST BE BROKE!! we need to get rid of the dead wood to free up the wages.

I love Wenger and appreciated all he’s done for the club but bottom line, you have to win! i’m soooo tired of this BS rehtoric we keep hearing. yeah, yeah, yeah, we dont want to overpay, we need to make financial sense, we have youth etc, etc, enough already. all that talk doesnt mean s!#t if we cant beat anyone. sorry Arsenal, you have to spend money – no way around it. Our future stars are jumping ship left and right and still nothing happens.

Experienced mixed with talent Cahill, Parker and kaka would be great for now a d experience we need to start competing. If you want a player get him quick a d decisively as we tell the world we are interested and try to negotiate and I. The mean time teams cone In. Over our heads it’s time we show the world we are still a massive club as we are. These young talents are great but if they don’t play with great players they won’t forfill there potential.

Kaka is finished, if he can’t do it in Spain where he gets loads of time on the ball, he won’t make it in the premiership where u gets less time and hit harder. I prefer wesly S, he’s a great player, this would also suit RVP!!

i agree with the wage structure needing to be increased but please kill the scott parker saga. he wasn’t good enough for chelsea and is not for us, i think if fripomg starts regularly this season he will be better than parker come january. we don’t need holding cm we have two very good ones, we need attacking central mids. i don’t care who they buy as long as hes better than what we have now experienced or not.

  12. bleeding red and white says:

Arsenal need to change the wage structure because I guarantee u that it will be Jack and Theo leaving in a couple of summers when they are about to peak. Forget all this talking we need to petition the bloody greedy board and the AST should be leading the way on this and if they do not listen to us we should vote with our feet. This needs to be done otherwise Arsenal will just be a development centre for all the major clubs.

while it may seem that we are handicapped at this point in time by the strict wage structure, but i believe the structure will make immense more sense when the UEFA fair play rules kick in. Most clubs who are spending big and offering crazy wages will not be able to balance their books and will face suspensions from CL.

the board needs to ensure the wage structure reflect our financial situation and projection. so if we are doing well, we should increase the cap to keep/lure good players.

@huhh? his first game in euro, i think he did pretty good. did you not watch the liverpool game? he was awesome, bar the sending off. hes fast, strong, agressive, good on the ball and yes he can pass and get stuck in. not quite scott parker level but hes not far off. seems to me like you base your statement on that one game.

Frimpong certainly lacks Parker’s maturity as reflected by his lack of tactical awareness (got caught out too many times on Wed). But he’s the pitbull type of player in the mold of Edgar Davids and will be a very good player for us in years to come. Denilson is no Frimpong. You can see the fire in his belly when Frimpong plays, which is something you don’t see in a lot of the foreign players.

Imagine what greatness our young gunners will achieve, all that’s needed is the experienced figures in the team to give them that guidence, inspiration, support. As for wages…which one of us will stay at our job if we don’t get paid what we deserve, I say Arsenal FC generates enough revenue to pay new established signings a good salary, and keep our young stars happy when they turn into super stars

look the point I am making is the level of hype on the poor lad. We need Parker for next 2 years to guide Frimpong. Left without a mentor, he won’t make it.

When Fab came into the team in 04 he had Edu and Gilberto Silva to guide him. What’s he currently got? Ramsey, Song, Rosicky…. Not going to go well.

@teacher: Denilson was a great prospect, how about Aliadiere? Or Justin Hoyte, or Owusu-Abeyie, or Muamba, or Stokes, or Merida….

Wenger is a smart and experienced manager, and im sure he knows what is right for the club. I just hope he splashes the cash for kaka, as he has the experience and quality that Wenger has been adamant we need. Im sure the board will stretch the wage structure for a marquee signing that would be bringing kaka to the emirates.

    Neill,
Can’t quite equate what Rix has said, with your blog. All he is advocating is that Arsenal should increase the pay of its players in order to retain them…..not break the Club’s wage structure which presumably merely differentiates between the value one player and another in the first team. I would presume this structure would remain as it surely does in every Club.

Rix is wrong. Arsenal have always had a wage structure and in a couple of years with financial fair play, every one else will have to follow. One other thing I dont ever hear mentioned on all these blogsites, we’re 92 years unbroken in the top flight in England. No other club can even get to half of that at the moment!!!

  29. LtDan says:

What’s all this rubbish about Scot Parker for Arsenal ?

It’s when Arsenal fans start agreeing on has-been players who are well past their sell by date, that’s the time we have to start worrying !

Just because he’s had a bit of a purple patch at a less than impressive West Ham, you gotta admit his best days were at Charlton.

He didn’t do nothing at Chelsea, nothing at Newcastle and is just a bit of a journey man.

If we start getting into a frenzy just because we haven’t signed anybody of note…it doesn’t mean we have to go the whole hog and start scraping the bottom of the barrel.

There’s no way Parker can do the job Song, Wilshire or Frimpong does. He might do the arse over tit job that Ramsey does though :-)

We need someone really creative and dynamic in our centre midfield someone who has got that rapier like attack style of play who can open teams up, in the same way Gervinho does on the wing.

I don’t know who actually fits that bill in world football and where we get him from but it’s definitely not Scot Parker.

Newcastle can’t afford scott parker, and I don’t think he will support this move.

chelsea don’t need parker, because they’ve got essien and lamapard, why would they buy another 30 year old, plus they got rid of ballack. Chelsea is looking for youth.

We are looking for experience and trying to english-up a little more, because at the end of the day we are Arsenal F.C from woolwich armoury rather than the R&D of the french team.

whoever shat on the gervinho signing should go lick nasri’s balls! coach knows what he’s doing and we’ll still finish in the top 4 while rebuilding.

I think it’s better for Arsenal Football Club not to break their wage structures

Just look what happen in Spain, players strike because their club not able to settle their pay

Club with big money owner will be able to get big money players, not Arsenal of course

We should be proud of this club

I read that Bolton laughed off our 6 million bid + some extras for Garry Cahill? Is this a joke? Must we do business like that?

I think even a 12 million bid will be rejected by Bolton.
We have only 6 days left and we also need to concentrate in other transfer.

Can’t we start with at least 14 million + either one of Almunia, Squilacci, Diably or even Rosicky?

Please pick up some speed! In fact if we were to be fast enough, we already can have Garry against MU instead of that error prone Djourou.

At the end of the day, we still have to pay what Bolton thinks is fair to them. So dragging won’t bring any benefit for us and only extra unnecessary stress.

the problem with buying, moulding young players into great ones is that when they truly shine and show even glimpses of magic , big clubs will swoop down and snatch them. All the hard work and nurturing is gone. Loyalty is scarce in the league and the sooner arsenal realise it the better for them. Every year arsenal loses key players and so they start rebulding again and again. This not a sign of a great and promising team destined for trophies. Wenger should admit to the fact that the invincibles were a mixture of youth AND experience not promising, wide eyed, potential gung ho young players. Wenger is taking the club for funfare ride and it might very well crashing into the Thames. Overly dependent on Van persie, against bigger clubs and in Europe Arsenal are doomed. Overly investing on young untested players …. Arsene should be in an academy, working with the youth instead of manager of a big great club like Arenal. He’s like a football “paedofile” loves working with young players. Enough said, brace yourself arsenal
