Ex-Young Gunner pleads for return
The Ivory Coast defender Guy Demel was at Arsenal briefly as a 20 year-old, but couldn’t settle in London and was very quickly allowed to move on to Germany, playing for ten years in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg.
But now, according to ESPN, he is now available on a free transfer and is desperate for a return to the Premiership before he retires.
He said yesterday: “I used to play at Arsenal but that was a long time ago and I am ready to go back. I am more experienced now and my desire is to return to England.”
“I have played six years at Hamburg and had a good time there but I feel the time is right for a new challenge,”
“Every player would like the opportunity to play in the Premier League where every weekend you play against top players and top teams and this is what I want. A lot of my Ivory Coast team-mates tell me how good it is play in the Premier League and it would be nice to play alongside them or against them.”
Demel is 6ft 2.5in and a regular Ivory Coast international and can play at right back or in midfield. Could he be a good addition to the Arsenal squad on a free transfer?

am afraid,we may be gumbling with the likes of Pascal Cygan ,Mickael Silvester or Squilacci. If the Guy is good, why is he on free transfer yet no other serious club is bothered taking him on! If arsenal is to lift any silver ware, big names should be priority.enough is enough.

If he can play at that level in Germany and is `free` Arsene Wengers eyes will light up.I feel Wenger will go away from the `bench player` philosophy and adopt `rotation squad` mentality to rest players injured or not.
With a change of approach older players with experience who can`t keep up the pace of two maybe three matches a week can slot in like Campbell did. Much will depend on Wengers understanding of him as a person.

@Sserubiri. While I agree that we do not need this kind of free transfer, big names do not guarantee trophies. Consdier Deco, Shev, Ballack and all the Galacticos of Real Madrid. Furthermore, Arsenal has a policy of not engaging in mad purchases like £45m + Eto for Ibrahimovic or the £40m being demended now for Alexis Sanchez, a boy that had ONE great season! Let us hope we get four/five decent signings (additions and replacements), and just one big name- like Eto, Falcao or Benzema. They are in the range of £25.

Utd have already spent €60.5m and still looking a central midfielder for €30m. Yet they were champions last year. U need 2 beat that before you can talk of trophy. We should stop all these 10m bargains and youth and for once show our intent.
I hate what is happening currently at arsenal and if it was my wife doing all these then i would have kicked her as just don’t know why am so attached 2 these club. May be its time i change club. Afterall everybody is leaving here.

If we do adopt a `rotation squad` philosophy and employ older experienced players I would imagine they will only be on short terms `agreements` not `contracts. We certainly don`t want to be saddled the same problem we have now.

It won’t be a bad idea to accept his offer. Things like this don’t happen everyday. Bt it all depend on hw he play if his as good as verlmalen den yes we should take him.

hes quite strong, almost like a K Toure, i remember in the world cup when he kept cutting off Ronaldo, did a pretty good job, he can play a CB or L/RB. Worth a free transfer!

@mbaro: please change you’re a shame. And change your wife too for her own good I guess.
Concerning the rumour it’s not the first time someone says he wants to play for arsenal. We don’t need the guy if we get samba and cahill unless he takes squillaci’s place as number 5 (which wouldn’t be such a bad idea because at least the guy is strong). I’m confident Wenger is going to reach our expectation of a significant reinforcement but as we already have quality players the names announced could be less famous than we hope. A good example is the GK he’s going to buy. I think he won’t buy a number one, more a replacement for chesney and fabianski. Concerning defence, players like samba and cahill aren’t the biggest names but they’re quality. The real surprise could be upfront if mata, benzema or falcao came in. (more probably mata in my opinion + ricky alvarez) I’m quiet sure fabregas is going to leave and of course our behaviour on the market depends on that hapenning or not. The question is: is that a necessary wound to improve? Most of us seem to think this way now, but it is still heartbreaking.
Arsenal win or lose, with all my heart and respect. Take notes mbaro.

This guy will not be joining Arsenal.
Anyone who mentions they are interested in/used to play for/wants to come to England is getting linked with us – from Eto’o to this bum.
Barton doesn’t get a contract offer from Newcastle, link him with Arsenal. Eto’o wants to play in England, link him with Arsenal. Arsenal say they’ll spend money, so that means we’ll sign Cahill, Samba and Jagielka!! Why not go out and sign Rooney, he wanted to leave Utd, or Essien, he looked in the direction of north London once. Why not sign Ronaldo, he walked passed someone wearing an arsenal shirt once!!!
Just remember, every summer we get heavily linked to all sorts.
The year we signed vermaelen, we were linked 86 players – and signed 1!!
When it’s done, you’ll see. 1, maybe 2 CB, a midfielder and a striker if Bendtner does go and the most expensive player will be in the region of £20m.
We don’t need an overhaul, we are not an older side or spurs, we just need a deeper squad and 4 top quality players will be enough if we keep what we have.
Bendtner, Denilson, Eboue and Rosicky would not be missed if they went but numbers wise 3 of those 4 would need replacing as a minimum. Rosicky is the only one who is more than covered.
And Fabo – they dont really want you. If they did they’d pay for you – £45m for Cesc Fabregas is a bargain!! It’s a principle thing for them. You were in their academy and they want you back on the cheap. So if Newell’s Old Boys come in with a £30m offer for Messi, it’ll be a done deal right?!?! Because on principle, Barca plucked him from their academy didn’t they?
We gave you your chance, don’t go forgetting that now. And also, the notion of Barca DNA? Where was this DNA in the early 2000′s? When they couldn’t qualify for the champions league? If this DNA did exist it would have ALWAYS been on display. The ‘Barca way’ is actually a Dutch system and Arsenal had it in place since we did the double 2002. Just with more physicality because our league is actually strong, and the opposition stretches further than Real Madrid! And this is why people say Barca guarantee titles. They are great don’t get me wrong, but we’d look pretty amazing in the Spanish league. We’d look amazing if we added a £30m+ player to a title winning side every season – even though it pushed the club further in debt.
So don’t do a Ronaldinho by being the big fish in a small pond.

And mbaro – true football supporters cannot change club. The mere fact you have suggested this means football is soap-opera to you. You are not a real fan. You probably jumped on the bandwagon around 2002, if not 2004.
You can change your friends, you can change your job. You can change your wife but your football club is for life.
Now go and support Spurs or Chelsea or ‘guarantee’ success, just go for Barca until Madrid can spend enough to break their hold.
You are a sad excuse for a football supporter and I’d advise your wife to kick you back and leave YOU!! You have no class and your English could use some work.
You couldn’t begin to understand what it is to be a Gooner – for life, not just for Christmas!!!!

fab is def gonna go,regretably, so we should accept the money and have done with it.. As for nasri, if what i heard is true,he wants to move for more money.what is that all about???no desire for the club anymore..is that the sort of player we want regardless of his talent(and he has plenty)..just dont sell to man u….we need a bit of tough experience in the team maybe like scott parker or a charlie adam type, someone who doesnt give in and knows what hes doin.would love to see samba and cahill sign, and hopfully they will.then that just leaves some one to hit the back of the net.gervinho looks good but dont think hell be enough.heres hoping!!!!
