Fabianski AND Mannone want to take Szczesny’s place!
It will certainly be interesting to see who Arsene Wenger gives the Number One jersey to in Arsenal’s first league game this season. Lukas Fabianski was the first choice after Manuel Almunia’s last ballsup, until he got injured (by Szczesny!) and the Pole is keen to win his place back.
He is now fit again and after playing some time against Cologne last week he wants to keep his place, and was aked how he felt. He replied: “Yes, to be honest I feel ready. I wasn’t nervous when I came on today, I felt quite good on the pitch, I felt the distance as well and the reading of the game was quite good. Of course I wasn’t busy but I felt good on the pitch.
He was then asked if he thought he should be the regular starter and he replied: “Obviously, obviously, that’s my aim and I will do everything I can to be the number one choice.”
But the young Italian Vito Mannone is also ready to step up, and thinks he is ready to challenge after a great loan spell at Hull City last season. He said: “It’s going well.”
“I’m focused here. I’m having a good pre-season with Arsenal and I’m trying to fight hard for the place.”
“I’ve enjoyed pre-season – there is a bit more focus on the training and the fans have been incredible, especially when we went to Asia.”
With everyone waiting for Manuel Almunia to find a new home for next season, it looks like these three will be all available to be Number One for the Gunners.
Who does everyone think Wenger will choose. Surely it’s got to be between Szczesny and Fabianski?

As you r youngsters, all of u must do more just to be number one,fight more !!!! 4 long periods we had a problem at zs place,but now solved b/c we have u!!! But z question is who can be stayed 4 z coming 15 years as number one goal keeper?

Last season our keepers were (in order of appearances)
Szcesney, Fabianski, Almunia, Lehmann. next season it will be Mannone in as 3rd and Martinez in as 4th choice. I am well happy with our goalkeeping situation at present. When Almunia goes we should keep the no.1 jersey open for a season. We will be changing both kits the season after our 125th anniversary season, it would be great competition for all our keepers to battle it out for the no.1 jersey. I predict Fabianski will be the loser and will leave next season anyway. The other 3 could be our keepers for the next 15-20 years.

Dan, you are an idiot!! did you not watch Fabianski’s match-winning performances in the first half of the season??
For me, Chesney no1, he is the most charismatic and instills confidence in his defenders! That said, the other two are good options. As long as Almunia never plays for Arsenal again I will be happy.

On a TECHNICAL level right now, Fabianski is the best of the three. But presence, confidence and development wise, Szczesny is the future.

@john i can do it even cheaper, ship nasri’s ass to PSG+ squid n get sakho free then swap elia from hamburg with bendtner buy stekelenburg 4 10m + fabianski on loan n give traore( on loan) to lyon+ 10-15m n get aly cissokho then keep cesc at arsenal cause he is dedicated to arsenal we spent total net of 32m the rest can be used 4 winter window when song goes to Africa Cup or the whole def/mid/attack is injured, this should win something

NO,Arsenal during the current transfer window should sell its current goalkeepers like Fabianski, Almunia,Mannone and remain with Szcesny,then buy 2 experienced elegant goalies like Mark Schwarzer,Tim Howard,Fernando Muslera[of Uruguay], Maarten Stekelenberg,Robert Enke,Craig Gordon e.t.c, after buying any two of the above goalies,they should make one of them to be a first choice goalkeeper and make Szcesny and the other one to be a second and third choice goalkeeper respectively plus also buying 10 and above experienced elegant players[defenders, midfielders and strikers],ensure they have a balanced squad whose all players average age is 26 years old and above.If they do all the above,I am sure Arsenal will be winning trophies year in year out.

Lol, you’re a maniac, Alex! Flappyhandski has lost us far more points than he has gained for us. Last season he was mediocre, which was better than his past seasons with us, but he won’t be improving much beyond that. Terrible goalie and I can’t wait for his shoulder to pack up again (bit harsh lol, but true)/him to leave Arsenal so that we won’t be suseptible to his errorprone goalkeeping!!!

In scrimmage while training in Germany, Mannone played as (I think) a left-back. He seems to be third in the pecking order. I’d suggest another loan spell with an easy recall so that he can get more playing time. Like in midfield, Arsenal has an embarrassment of riches in the form of strong young prospects in the goalkeeper position.
Seriously, what other team has a third-string goalkeeper as good as Vito?

Vito is probably the best of the 3 in my opinion, he has done well while playing for us and hasn’t had any serious blunders like fabianski or the carling cup disaster. But chezny will get the nod as his performances last season weren’t that bad

If you put Fabinski, Mannone and Almunia all together they would not make a good goalkeeper they are useless. Szczesny is ok but I still think we need a Quality Goalkeeper.

I have seen Mannone in goal some 2 seasons ago, he was such a sight to behold with his composure & flexibility. I mean he neva conceeded in like 3(or probabbly more) consecutive matches. szieny is good as well. Any of these two gets my nod.

Vito is the best among the three.He is confident and according to the matches he has played for arsenal he was superb,definately the best.Scsczney is good too,never took too long to fit in the premier league as fabianski did,but I still think Vito should definately hold the no.1 spot
