Fabregas’ honest advice to Wenger: You can’t afford to lose Van Persie

Posted on November 14, 2011 by admin

After becoming a first-team regular at Barcelona since his move to the Nou Camp, ex-Gunner Cesc Fabregas has offered some sound advice to both former teammate Robin Van Persie and to Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.

Fabregas said, “I don’t know if they will keep him. It is his decision. At his age, if he wants to move, it will be his last chance and it he wants to stay he will stay and retire at Arsenal. We will see what he decides but he’s been very loyal to Arsenal for a few years. He is a key player, the fans love him. For me, he is the role model of Arsenal, the star player and they cannot afford to lose him.”

Van Persie’s next contract decision will most probably be his last and so it is refreshing to hear Fabregas advising him to stay, rather than to join him at his new club like Nasri did to the Dutchman following his move to Manchester City: “Could he come to Barcelona? He would fit in anywhere but I’m an Arsenal fan and I want him to stay at Arsenal”.

The Spanish international’s advice is both sensible and sincere, as he is right that Van Persie would fit in at Barcelona but the move wouldn’t work like it has for Fabregas, who has always been destined for a move back to his original club. Van Persie would still have some influential impact on the Barcelona team but, unlike for Fabregas, it isn’t made for him.

Transfers to Manchester City and similar clubs undoubtedly harm footballing careers, but would a move to European champions Barcelona hamper Van Persie’s improvement into one of the world’s greatest players? The kind of advice Fabregas is offering is surely just what the Dutch international needs to be listening to.

@wentworth you can’t blame Fabregas. All he wanted was a move back to his home town. Where he belongs. Not like na$ri and €lichy! In a true gunners heart, Fabregas will always be a gunner for life.

  3. gunner says:

@wentworth totally agreed.the boys having too much of a say about the club.it seems to me he is missing the good-old days at arsenal.a major part of cesc heart still remains at london …..lol :) .maybe a bit unhappy seeing rvp in the spotlight and all that….

  4. wentworth says:

fabregas is loyal my foot: imagine a club’s captain offering to pay some of his transfer fee to move to another club. That’s a slap on arsenal’s face. He want to move to is boyhood club. yes we knw but why is he desperate about it and made barca start offering us peanuts just because he can’t stand tall and let barca pay the right price if he is truly needead. In the summer barca had priority and signing alexis sanchez means more to them than fabregas

i nthink fabregas would probably still be at arsenal if it wasnt for barcelona…..he wouldnt have moved anywhere else…i believe he does love the club.
I would advise fans to see what lies behind this problem of players leaving. Since 2005, this club hasnt won anything and as years go by, we look even less likely to win anything.
Face facts,,,4-4 away at newcastle was all the proof needed back then that we werent good enough (at the back particularly). THE 8-2 HAMMERING, woke wenger up to thinking we do actually need quality players…but now we have stabilised and for me look like a team on par with spuds and liverpool (mabe newcastle as well)and will scrap out 3rd 4th 5th and 6th positions. But we are still short of 3 top quality players..a striker is desperately needed.
The warning from fabregas is stemming from the fact that the club needs to show ambition for the pursuit of silverware.Dont blame cesc, he is just like a fan thats concerned with RVP leaving because he (RVP)wantS to win something.

Mark my words, Cesc will wear an Arsenal shirt again in a few years. I think its great what he said, he is showing the loyalty that others who have left have failed to show!!

Fabregas:” At his age, if he wants to move, it will be his last chance”

thank you cesc for reminding van persie about his “last chance”.otherwise rvp would have forgotten it as hes suffering from poor memory…………if not for you,it would have been ‘the end’ for him..thanks again

Such suggestions leave some players unsettled like they did to him. I hope they dont affect RVP. Is he missing Arsenal? Let him come back if that is the case. I dont think Wenger ever took his advice and neither will he?

Those of you who say Fabregas to shut up ask yourself if you really love and support Arsenal. Because if you would you would love and respect Fabregas. Fab, you are still in REAL GOONERS hearts!

He wasn’t giving advice. He was asked the question and gave an honest reply. For goodness sake if only the press and these blogs were not so selective with their quotes perhaps we would get the truth. But they do not want is to hear the truth, just stirring up controversy as usual.

fab is right. He loved and still loves arsenal. Remember, variety is the spice of life. His leaving has allowed others to fluorish. May wenger remain awake since has since the manutd game.

Irrespective of whether Fabregas is Arsenal at heart or not, what he says is true. It’s likely this is RVP’s last signing, so he has to decide whether he stays, or moves for probably the last time. Fabregas is just encouraging RVP to stay, but ultimately, it’s his choice. I agree – wherever RVP goes (if he does), it will not be the same for him. At Arsenal RVP is totally loved by the fans, the captain, a talisman, and looked up to by all. I’m not sure he’ll have that anywhere else.

I hate barca as it stolen some key players time to time whome i loved : henry, fab.most of them did not fit and their stay were only 2/3 seasons.they were meant to be a gunner so they did not fit in barca unlike fab.i dont think rvp would fit in barca or other teams as he is a true gunner,He has a nice form of scoring leaving arsenal would stop his momentum going!!!
Pls rvp dont leave us thinking other teams are better than arsenal!!!Arsenal is the ultimate passion of football.

    @wentworth:

Fabregas did the right move for his own part. He has devoted a lot of his career at Arsenal FC, and he did good. The fact that he gives advice to our beloved captain to stay at Arsenal should be well recived!

Great advice from an former Arsenal Captaion, to the new one! I really hope he does listen, and stay at our club!

Fabregas is in the same boat as Nasri and Clichy because I loved all three of them…until they sunk the boat. Fab should STFU about Arsenal and concentrate on versing the scrub teams of la liga (all but Real Madrid). Screw this piece of garbage and I pray he never returns to Arsenal again. Sounds to me like the three of them should sit around and play poker together.

If you were fan of arsenal as you say, you wouldn’t leave, knowing that this would seriously damage the team,as it was built around you!
Sympathy is not the same as being a fan!Just ask Mr Arsenal, Maldini or Stevie G.

Well Fabrigas You should be smart enough to understand that either Arsenal FC or the fan needs your advice now. You have Chosen the club that you really love. After that decision you made there will be no open ear that will be willing to listen to you. You are a closed chapter and learn to live like one. Hope you got me.

    110% agree with Evan.
Easy for him to say since he’s already left.. on the cheap too! In process, pressuring AW to let him go plus funding his on transfer and let Barca get away with a world class player for peanuts!!
AW & Arsenal need to revise the players salaries cap policy!! We just somehow need to match salaries offered by Man City & Chelsea, not to all players but certainly for a world class player like RVP!

As much of a Fabregas fan as I am.. Did he really need him to tell Wenger that he should try and hold onto RVP? I would have thought that after 14 Years at the helm, Wenger probably had that one sussed.

Guys it`s Masaka here why did Fab has to advise RVP and AW .What did he do when the whole world including arsenal fans told him not to go. RVP also has a home where he can go back. If that was the case. If you want to win something you dont join a team that is winning . No no the team has been doing well without you. You join a team that is not doing well so that if U do win you will say that U won something Ces must shut he betrayed us . He is a traiter
