Fabregas and Vermaelen unlikely to face Chelsea
Arsenal’s hopes of winning the big London derby took a big blow when Arsene Wenger revealed that his captain Cesc Fabregas has less than a 50% chance of facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
When asked about the Arsenal injury news, and specifically Fabregas’ chances of making it, Wenger said today: “I don’t know.”
“It looks a 50-50 but a 50-50 balancing on the negative side. I will find out on Saturday morning.”
He had already said that Thomas Vermaelen was unlikely to be ready, but he emphasised it again today and also revealed that Abou Diaby would be available: “Vermaelen – No.” he said. “Abou Diaby has an 80% chance to be involved. I am not sure if he will be completely 100% but it is 100% he will be in the squad.”
But Wenger did have some good news for Arsenal fans when he said: “Nicklas Bendtner should be available after the international break, and Aaron Ramsey (leg) is progressing very well.”
Wenger has form for playing up injuries so perhaps there is still hope we may see Fabregas on Sunday, but at the moment it looks like Rosicky will be acting captain again. Manuel Almunia, the Arsenal vice-captain, hasn’t been able to train since the West Brom defeat so Fabianski is expected to be given a chance to show that the game in Belgrade wasn’t just a flash in the pan, although Wenger made it look like that position was still undecided. “That one is even more difficult. He has not been in a regular training session. So I will see.”
I don’t think he will play Fabianski personally, but whoever he picks will be in for a real test against the Double Winners at Stamford Bridge. I will be crossing my fingers and legs and hoping that Arshavin, Chamakh and Nasri have a great day out……

if i am wishful, sczcesny will get a chance. but i seriously doubt it! i have a feeling that the keeper will not be the problem, we shall need to show strength against the big players.
perhaps some miracle will occur and v persie will be fit and so will walcott, full strength arsenal can beaqt chelski

wenger might just be saying that fabregas might not make it so that chelsea think “yes good news we will dominate the midfield easy now” then bang fabregas on the team sheet then they suddenly think “damm should have known the little shit would play” and suddenly they are worried about facing fabregas and BANG!!!!!! 1 nill arsenal oh then 2. well done arshavin. then drogba scores and we are under pressure but come through the game as the almighty winners and then end up winning the league! the champions league! the carling cup and the FA cup!and beome the greatest team in the world. THEN!!! wenger pulls his finger out and buys a world class goalkeeper, another defensive midfielder, a world class defender and fabregas stays and thats how i see it going to happen………………………………anyone agree? or am i just alone on that one hahaha

Nice to hear that Fabregas is nearing fitness, he,s a great addition to our team, haveing said that i must commend the guys that stepped in, they have not let us down,in fact he may struggle to get back in, i personaly think he should stay out longer, hamstrings need rest, raceing back, may produce more problems down the line, we dont want to lose out on transfer fees at the end of the season.
i am longing for vermaelen to regain full fitness, i want to see our new backline together, could be a very good blend.
i expect us to win comfortably against Chelsea, they are probably dreading having to play us while were in scoreing form i’ll settle for 3 0

why do i have the feeling wenger is pulling a fergie. as in hes only saying cesc isnt 100% so he can keep him out of international duty. he did mention that cesc wasnt going to be going so who knows. hopefully im right and cesc is fine enough to help us win on sunday

Dam some people with common sense.
Arsenal will win they fixed most of the problems we had against Chelsea last year which the was the poor defense.
and with wilshire who is making up for not having fab we will definitely win.

even with the absences of vermaelen and fabs i think if wenger sets up the team in a defensive 4-2-3-1 we could get points at the bridge. with song & (diaby/eboue/denilson) in front of the back four we’ll be able to compete with the bears chelsea have in the middle of the park and hope our defense and keeper wont falter. The rest is up to chamakh, arshavin, nasri and rosicky to provide sum brilliance and steal sum points at the bridge. Up gunners!!!

What is going on with Wenger no body cares about Diaby but ya he always have him on his list .What is more important is the the best two young center defenders Varmealen and Koscleiny are not playing together What is going on Arsene are these players injure or is something fishi here
