FC Twente Youngster Claims Arsenal Were Interested During The Summer
Ola John is the youngster in question and he plays for FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie and he claims today that Arsenal were interested in him during the recent summer transfer window.
John, 19, is the younger brother of Collins John who used to play for Fulham, has been a target for Manchester United in the past. In a interview with the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf today he said, “At the moment I’ve extended my contract with FC Twente. I was interesting Manchester United and Arsenal. But I have chosen for my chances to remain with FC Twente. If I do really well, the chance to go to a big club will still come.
So we were not really interested then Ola. It sounds like it was more hope than expectation I think on John’s part. He has only played 13 games for FC Twente, so no wonder he has chosen to remain in Holland. He will get more oppourtunities in Holland than he ever would in the Premier League at the moment, but he may be one to keep an eye on.

The John Brothers (Collins, Paddy and Ola) are believed to have been brought to the Netherlands by their mum from Liberia following the death of their father in the Liberian civil war. The all arrived before their tenth birthday and have represented Netherlands Football at under21 and under19 level. With regards the name Ola, it is in deed a common Nigerian (Yoruba) in Sierra Leonean many people from the krio (creoles) ethnic group have Nigerian and sometimes Ghanian names. Examples are Prof. Ogunlade Davidson (minister of Energy), Obi Metzeger (Footballer for the National team), Abioseh davidson Nicol (ist Native principal of Fourah bay College – oldest university in black Africa). So it is possible Ola John is Liberian with nigerian-sounding name.
