Four Arsenal players on Barcelona’s list by BA
Don’t panic! Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has published a list of the 50 players that could be on the wish list of Barcelona’s new manager Tito Vilanova. It comes after Vilanova told the Spanish press that he was looking for a player that could fill the position of “pivot” which is a versatile defensive midfielder, kind of like the player that Arsenal need.
Barcelona are focused on obtaining Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao but Mundo Deportivo, which has strong links to Barcelona, give us some food for thought and an insight into how they rate some of the Arsenal team.
Etienne Capoue from Toulouse and Yann M’Vila from Rennes are both included, with M’Vila getting the better write up while Capoue is doubted “at the highest level.” Lucas Biglia, Tongo Doumbia or Steven N’Zonzi did not appear.
The Arsenal players included are Alex Song, Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and, wait for it, Denilson. I know. They seem to think that he could rediscover his form elsewhere. Good luck to him. The good thing is that they deem the other three Arsenal players to be untouchable but highly desirable.
Arsenal cannot afford to let their best players get to within a year of their contracts ending.We all know what can happen.I will feel much better when Arsenal announce a new contract for Koscielny. Vermaelen or Koscielny could become brilliant in the “pivot” position but, surely, they are better where they are. We need, as do Barcelona, the quality holding player who can free the attack.

Coquelin is a rare gem and like flecter or barry their inteligent play are not always appriciated but he is not a holding defensive midfielder but more of a link up player who read up what is happenin in the game and dictate play ala Alonso that stil need khedira or busquet. Frimpong head is stil in the cloud and too injury prone. Hence,we stil need to sign a DM like Mvilla or Capoue

I wouldn’t laugh at that at all. La Liga has proven to be easier for South Americans to adapt to than the BPL. Denilson may play very well for them, you never know.
Also I’ve already said before that I prefer Kos and Mertesacker in defense because I think Koscielny is the better CB right now and I like the pairing of the two different styles of defending. Verms has all the tools to play as a CDM. It would probably take a while to transition to the position, but I have no doubt he could play it very well.

It’s a Spanish newspaper… All they do is talk sh!t and nonsense. I’d take all of this with a large grain of salt. Denilson is truly a lost cause. M’Vila needs to come! Capoue, I haven’t seen him play so I can’t make any assessments on him. Bigila is far too small and lightweight for EPL DM. He’d be the one being pushed around as opposed to what he need. He’s about the same height as Nigel De Jong, but he’s a good 9-10kg lighter than him. That’s a lot. He’s much shorter and nearly 20kg lighter than M’Vila. We do not need him to play defensive midfield. Maybe in Belgium you don’t need to be a big unit to play in that position, but in EPL you need too… Unless you’ve got a screw loose like De Jong, but in any case he’s 10kg heavier. N’Zoni is average. He was an average player in a terrible squad, hence we looked okay at times. He would become what many call “deadwood” because he’d be signed on about 60k a week for four years and he won’t cut it at Arsenal.
Ideally M’Vila will come. If not, bring in Sahko and throw him or Verm in DM and Sahko centre back. Or Kos as DM and Sahko and Verm pairing him. He has excellent vision and anticipation. Both very mobile, but have a tendency to venture forward. This is why we need M’Vila. He stays where he needs to stay. He doesn’t venture far out of position to attack like Song. He seems very disciplined on the field. At his age, I don’t care about his off field antics. Wilshere has gotten up to his fair share of mischief in his time. As has many players that have gone on to greatness. No one is an angel. Take a look at Giggs and how old is he…?

I think TV would play very well as a DM. He has the necessary skills to do so. However, he bombs forward too much. What we need is a DM that sits back (Arteta’s doing that already). Anyway, I’d be surprised if Wenger moved him to DM..

@SP Arseanal play a high line mertesecker is very slow so no he can’t start. Teams with pace or in other words every team in the epl can play a quick ball in behind him. None seems to remember that we conceded more goals than ever this season we need to strengthen our defence an get a DM very quickly
