Francis Coquelin agrees one-year loan at Lorient

The news has just come in that the young Arsenal defender Francis Coquelin has agreed to join Lorient for next season as a loan deal. The French U18 international will go straight into the first team at the Ligue 1 side, and it will be great for his development to get lots of competitive first-team experience.
It was also revealed on Lorient’s official website that this agreement has nothing to do with the transfer negotiations for Laurent Koscielny, who is expected to turn up for pre-season training next week as usual.
Coquelin is an extremely promising defender and made three appearances for the Gunners senior side last season, and 12 for the reserves.

Lorient reacted rather annoyingly by claiming Koscielny wasnt part of the deal. I guess they would change their heart once £17m slapped in front of their faces. Greedy

Big fan of Coquelin. Both as a DM and a right back.
I was hoping he’d get more of a chance with the first team squad this year, but a spell in Ligue 1 with Lorient (7th last season) would be invaluable experience.
A good reason to follow Ligue 1, if one were needed.

If Laurent Koscielny was proven at CL level, i can agree with Lorient holding out for close to 10m, but he hasn’t even played much at top level to warrant what they are asking, the sooner Arsene stops looking at French defeneders only and start looking at som efine English talents at the back, the better, if we are going to pay 3million less than what we can get for a proven Gary Cahill, why bother? I’m not English, but i just don’t get Wenger and his stubborn ways when it comes to looking at players to play defence and goalie.
