Full Arsenal injury update – Wenger’s options improve yet again

Posted on February 01, 2012 by admin

Just a couple of weeks ago Arsene Wenger had a full team of players on the treatment table, but ahead of tonights game against Bolton the Arsenal injury list has reduced by half.

Bacary Sagna may have only played a few minutes on Sunday, but it was a relief to see him back after three months out. Wenger is not sure whether the full-back will be able to play the full 90 minutes just yet.

The French manager said yesterday: “He is in the squad. Sagna is a bit ahead of Kieran Gibbs training-wise. Sagna is a bit early still for tomorrow but you never know. I might consider it because I have to check all the recoveries of the players who played on Sunday.”

Thomas Vermaelen, Fabianski and Coquelin all returned to the starting line-up against Villa, and Wenger also revealed that Arteta and Henry, who both made short returns on Sunday, are ready to play now.

Defensively, Johann Djourou is also fully fit, and even Kieran Gibbs has returned to training and Wenger confirmed that he is close to fitness at last. “He had a normal training session yesterday,” he said.

“He is still short to play now but it is good news to have him back and I think one or two more weeks practice will get him back to being available again. That is very positive.”

Obviously the bad news about Wilshere’s new fracture won’t cheer everyone up, but other than him Arsenal now only have Andre Santos definitely out for the long term.

The two players with question marks against them are Abou Diaby, who returned yesterday from a long rehabilitation period and will now start training again, and Carl Jenkinson, who’s back problem seems to be taking much longer to heal than was first thought.

But, looking at the overall picture, Arsenal are looking much stronger now, especially defensively. They now have to play for each other to take all three points from Bolton tonight.

Good news. However, Jack’s case is pathetic; I really do feel sad about his plight. Wenger should have but a star player that can qualitatively stand in for Jack’s absence. As for Santos, I pray he bounces back very soon. I don’t know what to say about Diaby. Kieran should sit up this time around, thank God for Koscielny’s improvement.

    Bolton shall be gunned down.

I ‘m also delighted with the new youth sign whom i belive will be like Mr Ox. I am positive over because I always belive that have nothing to do than skills and managers techniques like that of our Prof Wenger.
I repeat to say, big names does not matter, look at mancity with its big big names. Yesterday they lost to Everton, Not Liverpool or Man U or Chel. oh if could be Gooners funs could demand or even chop managers head for mismanagement of funds that have been spent to purcahse un effective big names. I dont think its about buying players this past jan I felt the best option is to play players we already have there that was not getting any play time eg, Ox and Park well Ox has shown now what he can do and has played more its time for the dragon to enter which is Park all he has had is 8 mins of epl time, I know everyone wanted this player or that player but the fact is every out side players you guys is calling for is gonna have to settle in to the team thats the real way to look at it I mean whats the chance there gonna hit the ground runnin 50/50,, where as we already have players who have been training months with us,know are style of play, but wasnt getting games eg, Ox and Park time to use these a whole lot more I know people going dislike like what I say here but park should be ahead of henry in the picking order Park has way more to prove than henry does. And would go out there with more energy and drive..

why is everyone getting excited over a 19 year old kid signing for arsenal. when he lets another 19 year old kid. miyaichi. go on loan to bolton, it does not improve our chances of winning at bolton tonight, or winning the fa cup or. qualifying for the champions league, ok so lets get rid of arshavin, and chamahk. with rosicky, benayoun, djouro. then he will have extra 40-50 million to hoarde away with the 190 million already piled up, because if u believe they will buy experienced players in the summer, think again, we already been told thier not going to bue experienced premier league players, but stick to the youth policy , as yesterday proved, he could of signed samba , or made a bid for defoe, or darren bent, but they never. so plzz do not get to excited , tonights match at bolton is not a formality either. even with, sagna or any other defender coming back.

It’s not Wenger’s decision to allow Ryo to play against us, the PL does not allow an on loan player to play against their parent club.

Rate this comment: Thumb up 3 Thumb down 2

  38. Travis Bickle says:

    @ Rocky & goonerswagg

A loaned player can play against their parent club as in the rules of the EPL. The decision lies with the parent club to stipulate in the loan contract whether or not the loanie can or cannot play against his parent club.

In this instance, Arsenal have stipulated that Ryo CANNOT play against his Parent club. In Bendtner’s case however, their s no such stipulation and when Arsenal face Sunderland he may play against us, the same goes for Frimpong.

That’s funny, Wenger came out and said a few days ago “whats the point in loaning out your players if they can’t play against you”, he’s so hypercritical fair play.

I suppose its for a reason though, he would destroy our fragile RB position, too quick for Djourou and Yannaris, Sagnas not 100%.

i know we’re gonna have a shit fight for 4th pace this year, but summer is looking very bright. We will have both Wilshere and Santos back, with Eisfeld and Ryo in the making. Suarez may have already signed with us already for next year, arshavin will go in a few weeks to free funds for summer transfers and this quiet winter could mean Arsenal could really strengthen the squad in 6 months time. We wernt ‘Lucky’ on Sunday, if anything we were unlucky to actually be in that position, first half was very even and we totally dominated the second, they were two blatent pens and ok Walcotts goal was slightly fortunate but he done really well to get into that position and im 100% we would have scored again anyway, theres no way that win was lucky.

Also theres no way Barca would pay that obviously but I dont think I would want it accepted for the exact same reason pointed out by others, theres no way it would get re-invested with Gazidis and Stan at the helm.

  75. Big Gun says:

I’ve noticed a great division amongst Arsenal fans – AKB’s and WO’s. We hear the AKB’s dribble on about how we will never get another manager like AW, who brought us the invincibles and silverware 7 seasons ago. We also hear them go on about how we have had a successive 10 game unbeaten run. On the other hand we have the WO’s (Wenger Outs) who are tired of this man and the board running our club into the ground. 7 seasons without a trophy and 7th place should be something to worry about for a club as great and prestigious as AFC.

Let me draw a line here which the AKB’s fail to see. It’s all fine and dandy when Arsenal are winning, sure we all want to see our club winning, but as soon as we lose they complain that that is the only time WO’s rear the heads and complain. Let me explain why. Most of the games we have lost have not been because of bad luck or just because the other team just played exceptionally well. If that was the case, the WO’s would be silent, knowing our manager and team have done their best…that includes a good starting team selection and formation, in game tactics and subs. This is where the AKB’s are completely blind. The games we have lost ARE because of bad managerial tactics and substitutions etc. Some of the players Wenger has decided to play,(and not play) of late have also cost us. So AKB’s you need to wake up and realize we are losing games not because the other teams are better, it’s because of our manager and his selections and lack of decent buys in the market that have caused our team to dwindle down the ladder. I mean really OX’s subsitution was the perfect example amongst others.

So I hope you all see why WO’s complain, it’s not at all that we are bad supporters, on the contrary if fans like us didn’t exist, the weaknesses in the club would not be exposed. (Something the manager is supposed to be doing last time I checked!?) Was it coincidence that half the stadium booed when Ox was taken off against United? Tonight, same story, I agree with D.Bergkamp. Ramsey is the weakest link.

Constructive criticism is only a good thing for the club.

    @Big Gun

Though I disagree with most of what you have said, I must admit that your points are logical and I can see why you believe what you do. I definitely take your point about us not losing because the opponents played well, but because we played badly. However, I disagree strongly when you say that we have not been unlucky…Fulham, Wolves and Swansea ring any bells?

Also, there are great mutterings about Van Persie considering his options for the Summer window. If this is true, then my opinion of him has diminished greatly. If our captain, talisman and consummate professional does not have his head fully in the game when we have 15 games left to play and being 5 points of fourth, then questions must be asked. To make that clear, thats 45 points left to play for, including Chelsea and Newcastle visiting the Emirates.

Though it was a disappointing result today, I beg you to recognise that the signs of recovery were there; for 60 mins, we played as well as we have done this season and were it not for some shocking finishing (thats a separate argument) we could have had this game in the bag. If we can keep playing as we did in the first 60 mins, I am very optimistic for the rest of the season.

    Keep the faith Gooners.

Sad very Sad for Arsenal fc once We were invincible today We hv become a laughing stock, even spuds are mocking us!!! We r stuck between an incompetent out touch dictator manager, Mr Professor of excuses and referees blamer & a pharisiens board willing to sacrificed the club’s glory for their own profit , selling all good players and replacing them with cheap no experience injuries prone youngesters, buying players just to loan them away, not giving a monkey about fans feeling and pride… A club without ambitions We v become out of touch with reality. my season ticket Will be sent back and I expect a reimbursement ***

Same old , same old. I might just wait until the end of the season to start watching Arsenal. In the beginning of the summer window we had so much optimism; Gotze/hazard, mata , cahill. High hopes ruined by the inability to spend money we earn from fans’ hard earned cash paying for season tickets extremely high even though we are mid table

Arsenal starting with the best 11 we have today but yet only a draw. We almost lost at the end of the game. What a disappointment.
