Gaz: No haggling Wenger, just splash the cash!

Three Teenagers Do No Make A Summer by Gaz

Radamel Falcao, Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Gervinho, Ricky Alvarez, Mamadou Sakho, Christopher Samba, Gary Cahill, and so on, and so on. Every day there is a player we are supposed to be “on the brink” of signing, but still we haven’t strengthened our squad with the quality and experience we so desperately need. Why? Its like deja vu all over again. When will Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis learn? I don’t want to hear our manager talk about possible signings, I just want him to make them quickly, and without delay. I didn’t enjoy seeing our boss at the Champions League Final either. He should be concentrating 100% on improving our squad, and leave his commentary career for when he retires.(Hopefully this time next year Arsene Wenger will be a full time commentator for french TV.)

Its time to stop playing stupid games, haggling over 1 or 2 million pounds all the time. If there is a player that will improve us, and push us closer to winning trophies again, for Gods sake, get the cheque book out and get the deal done. The longer we argue about the price, the more likely Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea come in and hijack the deal. This has happened too often down the years, with too many players, and surely if Wenger and Gazidis had a proper working brain they would realise this. Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba are the two biggest names we have missed out on in the last 10 years over the little matter of a couple of hundreds of thousands of pounds. And here we are in 2011 with the same scenario all over again it seems.

I’m also bored to tears of hearing our manager come out and say how brilliant he thinks a player is, only to do nothing about it. Eden Hazard is a prime example. Last year we could have got him for £12m-£15m, but NO, Wenger wanted to stick with Tomas Rosicknote for another year to save a few extra pennies. Now it will cost £25m-£30m to sign Hazard, therefore ruling us out of any race for his signature. TYPICAL. Just you watch one of our main rivals snap him up eventually, and he will come back to haunt us for years and years to come. But its okay, Wenger will come out with a big smile on his face, and say “I knew about Eden Hazard first”. Oh well done Arsene, give yourself a clap. I only wish you would have had this attitude with Bendtner, Denilson and Squillaci too. I can’t help but wonder why our “genius” of a manager thought we needed these guys more than the other players I have mentioned.

I know some of you will tell me to be more patient, and trust Wenger and Gazidis to get the right players in, even if it takes weeks and weeks and weeks of negotiating a price. But I would argue that the word “patience” has been used WAY too much around Arsenal FC in recent years. Its always a case of “wait until next season” or “next season our players will have more experience”. I’m sorry, but i’m not going to be manipulated anymore. Our place in the top four of the Premiership is in incredible danger now, and the only way to give ourselves a chance of holding onto it, and maybe mount a serious title challenge, is by spending money on some proven top quality players as soon as possible.

Signing two 16 year olds, in Jon Toral Harper and Hector Bellerin from Barcelona’s academy, isn’t exactly what I had in mind to help us win some silverware next season. Signing Carl Jenkinson from Charlton wasn’t one of my transfer window wishes either. Neither was spending a potential £10m on Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. But HEY, if these guys come good, we will have one hell of a midfield in 5 years time. A lovely thought isn’t it?

Well, not really. I think Wenger should focus on fixing the present, before worrying about the future.

The short sighted twat can’t see that if he had spent the extra £1m
on Shwarzer we would have won the Carling cup and got the

the’ dip in confidence’ that AW sights as the reason

I am amazed that Ancelloti gets sacked for coming 2nd in the PL and we keep faith
with this twat whose more accountant than manager
the fans have been very patient and seen AW penny pinching cost us good Players and

So called ‘top quality players’ or not there is no way Arsenal will drop below 4th. We need a leader on the pitch that every man can look up to, a TRUE captain. Once that problem is solved we can look ahead. This ain’t playstation lads, individually we have one of the best sqauds in Europe. Our problem is the team effort, and mentality. New signings can’t change that.

  23. FREDDY KOIGI says:

    Why should Wenger not haggle?.

We need the very top quality players and funny enough, most of the quality players arrive at bargain prices.

Look at Chicharito, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Jack Wilshere, Samir Nasri, Gareth Bale, Robin Van Persie, Scott Parker, Nemanja Vidic, Bacary Sagna, Vincent Kompany, Edwin Van Der Sar e.t.c, they got into their clubs on bargain prices and were still the very best players in English Premier League this season.

The only exceptions were Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez and Yaya Toure, those being the only top players in the season to cost a lot of money and Berbatov wasn’t all that good despite the fact that his goals handed a lame Manchester United side a trophy they didn’t deserve and the way he was rewarded by being omitted in the squad to face Barcelona confirms the fact that he is not all that.

It is not how much Wenger pays, It is about who he brings in and I am saying this in response to a possible 12 million Christopher Samba deal as compared to 20 million Phil Jagielka deal, In this case I believe the best signing would be the 12 million one as Jagielka, despite being better technically, he is not the brick wall Arsenal needs in their defense, Samba is.

I love Falcao and I think his heading ability is out of this world but given him and Benzema to choose from, I think I’d prefer Benzema first and chances are Benzema will arrive at a lower cost than Falcao also.

Anyway, why are we not hearing anything about a defensive midfielder?, I think an Arturo Vidal would suit our side very well. He is a particularly good deep-lying playmaker with excellent defense response and very good attacking instincts, Another Paul Scholes or Andrea Pirlo in the making in the making, meaning with him and Jack Wilshere partnering Alex Song, our defense will be very well screened and protected. I think, despite the fact that he has not been linked with us, He is exactly the type of a player who should be our NUMBER 1 target as the reason why we fail defensively starts first and foremost with defensive midfield (with Abou Diaby and Denilson being the main culprits) before it goes to our defenders who are always exposed by our midfield. What adds to his very good defensive qualities is the fact that he SCORED 10 goals and gave 10 assists during which he contributed to more goals than any of our attacking midfielders despite being deployed and functioning very well in his responsibilities as a defensive midfielder.

You’ve outdone yourself this time Gaz. Complaining that the manager is taking too long making signings when none of our rivals have signed anyone and the transfer window isn’t even open. What is it next week ? perhaps an article about the teams’ awful performance in the 2011 Emirates Cup which happens in August. United bid three times as much to buy Ronaldo as Arsenal had offered so you could say Arsene made a mistake and under-rated him but you can’t compare Arsenals’ spending power with Chelsea, Man City or even United. It’s all too easy for you, Arsenal should spend whatever it takes to buy this flavour-of-the-month then next month they should spend a fortune on this bloke. Unlike Abramovich when i go into a shop i need to know what the price is to know whether i can afford something. This is no different.

and don’t bother talking about Hazard. He wasn’t for sale last summer and he’s not for sale this summer so what should Wenger do ? 35. Charlie says:

@Baz grow up of course we all want to win the league but clubs that sack a manager for not winning the league do so because they’ve given him more resources than his rivals, Chelsea or Man City prime examples. Wenger has less resources than Spurs, Liverpool or even Birmingham City so based on that our expectations should be down with the likes of Wigan. They’re not because we’ve never dropped that low but people who think success isn’t linked to how much money you spend aren’t living in the real world. Our players have the same problem as our fans, you think you’re entitled to trophies because this is Arsenal which is great but WHY ? There’s nothing wrong with wanting success but you all have unrealistic expectations of a team that in terms of resources has to be considered as a rank outsider. Love the club but don’t forget that the odds are stacked against us. Take a look at how much Chelsea and Man City spend this summer (even ignoring the money spent in January already), then try to explain to me how Arsenal could match them in the transfer market.

If Morgan amaltifano is seen as a replacement for randall then i am ok with that. But if wenger thinks that chamberlain is a replacement for nasri then we are stepping backwards. Here is list of departures that could happen this summer and as long as we replace with the players next to them no problem.

The deals are done before in principal and formally during the window. There are also such things as pre-contract agreements for players in the last season of their contract that can sign from January. This was done for Chamakh.

Anyway, its best that Wenger makes early moves and showcases new signings to allow them to bed in and partake in the pre season rather than getting them on midnight of the tfr window closing.

Thats more likely what Gaz and Baz mean and I think we would all agree on that.

His haggling and stubbornness to pay the price for players is legendary, so old habits die hard…however even the most obsessive of people must realize that our problems at the back in particular are bigger than anyone’s ego. Wenger probably will do it this time….after drawn out and unnecessary haggling. Samba will cost £12million…so its one more bid!He needs to get falcao ASAP as well…although the player seems happy where he is…Porto may need the money.

I honestly think the defence needs sorting first, then one gung-ho striker that has no fear of the goal, and last but not least important, aqquire some tactical knowledge in order to change things on the pitch when needed, and not continue to rely solely on our brand of football, which unlike barca’s is just not in their league YET.

  52. Its time the fans should have a say in this not only comment and others decide but also make the decisions. when a fan buys a ticket to watch a game it must be the full game. but when before the game is over you get frustrated to the extent of leaving the stadium to me this is a breach of contract and either the manager or somebody in tat hirach pays.its painful for the fans when our manager at first used to tell us to have patiance with the boys, for three years we were. then he started telling us we need re-inforcement interms of experience then he started going for championship players. this is shocking. we also want to be associated with the best in the world. Arsenal fans are not fourth material, arsenal as a team has not grown in the last four seasons if am not mistaken. there was a time Arsenal went Sixteen games winning agaist chelsea, We can never be assured now whether we can win a game against them. Wenger has simply messed us. Even the players are not playing for him any more. gone are the days when a game against Manchester was Mouth Watering, today winning such a game is only when they are at there worst moment. I could not imagine Our team loosing an FA CUP game against a makeshift Manchester team. Can you believe that Our team Lost Carling Cup glory to a relegation bound team. Do you think Furgason can stomach his team relinguish a 4-0 lead within 25 minutes. Wenger will not buy the good players you mentioned because he is not a winner but a beautician. Daglish as a Manager is better so many teams than wenger because when he took over at Liverpool, by then we were second separeted by 2 points with a game in hand and Chelsea were nine to ten points behind us. Daglish moved Liverpool from the relagation zone to sixth, Anceloti covered the points separating Chelsea with Arsenal, lipfrogged us to second position having had guided them to first position last season and he was sacked. Wenger; came from a possible first position, to fourth, a position he has maintained for the last four seasons if not mistaken and he manages to keep his job because of the popular saying IN WENGER WE TRUST. For me i dont trust Wenger any more. He will always sign young players who have less wage demands than well established players. Even the established players within our team are opting out because they come to understand their manager, they know their peers a doing better in both monentary terms and in medal glory in other teams, while at Arsenal they earn less in terms of Money and no glory. Its clear that our Manager is not popular to the arsenal fans today and I wish we can revolt against our Manager. My friends always jokes that if you have a low blood pressure then you can be an Arsenal fan coz it always disappoints her fans but if you have high blood pressure, never come closer to an Arsenal Match.

I share everyone’s passion and I’ve felt like both sides of the arguement currently feel. When wenger decided not to sign a CB in January… I went ballistic knowing we were going to ship goals. The last four years have been an exact replica. We are contending for titles till February/ March and then we capitulate. Common sense tells me wenger should re-inforce in January… if the play pattern of our team drains our players, then let’s have people good enough to take on elite teams and rotate them. Chamak was lovely for the first part of last season and then went off from chrismas. Have we considered given such players a two week holiday in January to refresh them? If we have 25 players who can shed blood to get result for a season, we will win titles. I think we need 2 CB not one. Samba will be a good addition but we also need another one that can play 4 as well. A senior GK is a must. Hunt Reina down even for 30 million. Given what he did with Cesc in Spain, I’ll do almost anything to see him in an Arsenal Shirt. Plus he’s actaully quite good and is one of the reasons Liverpool recovered in the season.

Wenger needs a 30 goal a season striker not one that get injured regularly. Falcao, Inler, Samba and Reina … then keep Cesc and Nasri. If with these we don’t win the league next year, I’ll refund 10 people’s season ticket.

Buy Pastore, Hazard, Djibril Cisse, Mohammed Sissoko from Juventus, Samba and Jagielka, or Gary Cahill.

And buy a goalkeeper, it’ s time: Akinfeev or Lloris or Mandanda

@Baz and the rest of you punks don’t have a clue about Arsenal. This new third world fanbase is a blessing and a curse. Of course these new fans can’t understand Wenger because they weren’t even around when he was winning cups, learn some respect(and grammer). If you could read properly then you would understand your reply makes no sense. I won a spelling test once, but I bet that doesn’t mean much to someone as illiterate as yourself. I’m tired of you informers bad mouthing my manager. Get a life.

i agree that we have been waiting to long and that he never buys any experience or top quality players.

however, i dont want to become a club like man utd about one billion pounds in debt or chelsea who just look to abramhovic and rebuild there squad all the time. we are doing things the right way no other manager can do what wenger has done and we are not in his situation. probably all of us have never even managed a semi pro team let alone a premier league team.

moreover, if we go and buy loads of experienced top quality players where will that leave players that are really talented and are progressing such as miyaichi, wellington silva, ramsey and szeszney. also, if we didnt buy lets say chamberlain and he goes on to be a man utd legend and one of the best players in the world .almost every arsenal fan will start moaning and always say omg why didnt wenger get him.

who knows these two barcelona players could be amazing for us in the future look at cesc from what he was to what he is now. i think once the fifa fair rules come into play alot of the other teams will be in deep trouble but not us and then we will start winning trophies.

so i say if you dont like how things are done go and support another team because we dont need those people who think lets go and buy so and so for 100 million.

people are focusing solely on the negatives look at some of the posatives this season :

jack wilshere has blossomed into a magnificent player and has a bright future ahead of him.

we only lost to the best team in the world and maybe ever by one goal and had bendtner put that chance at the end away we would have won and we were a man down to a stupid decision.

we have beaten man united, chelsea and man city this season so that is way better than we did in seasons gone by especially because they spend way more money than us.

we have brought in two young talents that look amazing those being ryo miyaichi and jon toral harper.

we are very close to winning things compared to previous seasons.

stan kroenke has finally taken over arsenal and will give wenger some cash.
yes i know we have had some epic failures that i dont even need to mention and it does upset me to see us not win things and end the season like we did. however, wenger hasd given his life to arsenal and we shouldnt give up now , every cloud has a silver lining and we are just about to find it. KEEP THE FAITH!!

Wenger bought on the cheap when he was at Monaco. Wenger bought on the cheap at Highbury (credit to him for Henry, Pires and Viera, but those days of easy scouting have been truly over). Wenger bought on the cheap since Arsenal moved to Emirates. What makes you think he will change and spend?

Mark my words. Nothing will change. It’s a boring repeat of this season, and the previous season, and the previous… Except that next season, the 4th CL spot can’t be taken for granted anymore.

  70. Anders Hansen says:

I simply have to reply to this. Yes I still beleave in AW and 1 of the reasons for that is that I saw what we were like during the Terry Niell days. Defensive, destructive football at its worst..Yes we had some great players like Stapleton, Rix and Brady, but both Stapleton ( to Man U) and Brady (to Juve) were sold on when they were in their prime or just about to get into their prime.
Some may call me a mashocist but those years from 1974 -1989 hardended my skin so much that 6 years without a trophy is something I can live with.
I do agree that the team need some changes, and I would also love to get that “wauv, did we really buy him” moment, but thats prolly not necessary..the likes of Bould, Winterbottom came to Arsenal for very little money, but they had grid and heart and thats what we need the most.
The biggest problem on this team is not that we dont have quality players, cause we do. The main problem is that they are all of the same making..techical, small and for the most part physical weak. I would like us to get rid off Fab this summer, cause his heart allready belongs to Barca and he will split as soon as he can, besides that as long as he is in the squad he will be captain and he dont posses the right tools for that, and basically never have. We need an Adams type of player to fill that spot and if that mean we need to buy him from outside so be it.
And here is something to all u AW haters. Dont just say sack the man, but tell who u want instead..Atm I can see 1 or 2 that could replace him, but they are currently in a job and prolly also out of our salary range, so in my eyes we cant do better..stubborn or not

Guys, hold on. The best hope for the club is if AW decides not to sign anyone, i hope he doesn’t, WHY? Because it is becoming easier to sack him than him signing a player. He is part of the problem folks. Take back your wishfull thinking!
