Gazidis – All the top teams want to be like Arsenal
The Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis reckons that Arsenal’s prudent fiscal policy is the envy of the footballing world, and believes that it will keep Arsenal in the top level of football for the forseeable future.
There have been rumblings lately that the new UEFA Fair Play regulations will be unworkable and unenforcible, but Gazidis says that the Gunners’ success does not depend on the new rules being implemented, and he says that every other club are jealous of theirindependent business model,
“We believe in what we’re doing outside financial fair play so we’re not relying on any kind of rules nor are we really changing what we do.” he said.
“We believe that what we do is the right thing to do for our football club. This idea of a sustainable model means that we can look forward with real confidence and say Arsenal will be at the top of the game five years from now, 10 years from now and 20 years from now.
“We don’t rely on anybody but ourselves for our own success and we stand on our own two feet.
“That’s a very powerful position for us and something that we believe in regardless of what Uefa do, regardless of what financial fair play entails.
“I think all clubs want to try to get themselves to that position. Every club I speak to wants to ultimately be in that position even the ones that are spending enormous amounts of money today want to move their clubs to that position.”
The one massive difference between Arsenal and other clubs is that the Gunners only pay out around half of their income as wages, whereas some other clubs are nearly as high as 90% or more. Even if the Fair Play Rules are scrapped, the bare minimum that UEFA should enforce is a maximum wage limit to introduce a bit of parity between clubs. Surely that isn’t too much to ask?

I partly agree. Yes all club would like to have sustainable financial model as well they would like to be WINNER. It’s no point of being mediocre team and have sustainable model. Club means winning trophies or loosing great prospect. We trust in ARSENE but not this guys. We need David Dean along with Arsene to build a winning and sustainable team.

Well in the past 6 years, the result of Arsenal’ self sustaining policy has only been good for the share holders not on the field and not for the fans.
I think Gazidis, Stan K and others are whether fools or they are fooling the fans (most probably both)
Even if UEFA’s rules come into effect, rich clubs will find ways to generate “revenue”. this can be done on the commercial deals and many other fake deals. The Man City sheik can easily sell the jersey ad rights to his brother’s company for 200 mill. It is perfectly legal and UEFA cannot do nothing about it.
so the result will be that Arsenal will have same mediocre result in years to come
this club has constantly been selling players more than buying in the past 4 years. The selection criteria’s have been to get players who accept Arsenal wage scheme and not what we exactly need. Thats why wenger signed squillachi and not cahil or samba last year.
I think Wenger is most probably the most intelligent manager at EPL but with this money spending policy all efforts will end up at 3rd 4th places

I can take all the years without a trophy albeit with pain but the only thing I cannot stand is this guy and the fact that he is at our great club.
His statements disregard every Arsenal supporters dreams and have one single goal to make the shareholders happy that they are making tons of money and therefore cement his own position and salary.
The sooner Gazidis goes to Man City which is the team he supports the better.

I’d Rather be A premier League club for 30years and win a few cups. Than win stuff on the trot and then be relegated for a few years.
Let’s not forget Man U, Liverpool, City, Tottenham, Chelsea. Have all been religated before. (Might need someone with better knowledge). But Arsenal have stayed in the top flight since we got their all them years ago.

Arsenal really need sort their wage structure out they currently spend 124m a season on wages yet van persie only earns 70k pwk? they need to restructure players wages in to a tiers/pyramid structure ie. there is no reason why Arsenal cant have a least 4 world class players earning 130-160k pwk (tier 1) 4 players earning 80-100k pwk (tier 2) 4 players earning 55-70k pwk (tier 3) and the rest earning anything from 10-45k pwk (tier 4) this would allow Arsenal to keep there best players or attract top players, at the expence of players like (Diaby 60k pwk) or (denilson 55k) pwk (squillaci 55k) (Almunia 60k) (djourou 55k) (vela 45k), chamack 65k?? my god the list goes on but this is where Arsenals problem is they pay very good wages to very average players! the above players are draining around 300k pwk outta Arsenal!! thats 2 or 3 world class players in my eyes maybe the likes of podolski? Reus? gotze? hazzard?

This self-sustaining policy, whilst commendable in itself, has compelled Arsene Wenger into a pursuit of youth which so far hasn’t reaped great reward. Patience is a necessary virtue, however.
I sometimes wonder whether, with unlimited funds, Wenger would have preferred to buy proven topclass experience over the past few years, rather than his youthful signings.
With his undoubted loyalty to the Board, we will never know while he’s employed by Arsenal FC. There have been suggestions of rifts with the Board but until his bestseller autobiography at the end of his managerial career, we must again have patience.

Why do the people at the top in Arsenal constantly talk about finance whereas other at top clubs talk about tangible success and bringing players in? I’m sick of it, frankly.

Dear Mr. G, unfortunately you talk non-sense, most leadinbg football teams don’t mention your model as an ideal way of running a football team, they concentrate on winning silverware

Success would not come on the same day that you are setting your business model. You can only say that if you do not understand how a business model works,in terms of how and when it is supposed to yield results, and under what assumptions. Have you seen the new setting Chelsea are trying to come up with and how it is going to affect their results in the immediate future before they get what they want? Shame on those who just go about crying.

Something which you are not able to deliver because you won’t back our manager with the funds because your lining your Versace pockets with them! F**k off arsehole your not wanted at this club.

so we barely have sport lovers at management level, all we’ve got is business tycoons and greedy individuals. Little wonder why the cameras don’t pick the fat cats in the VIP section of the emirates like the likes of barca, madrid since they don’t even know which wing szczesny play, all that matters is the financial turnover and profits. So pathetic!!! I wish al qaeda can blow this businessmen so that we can replace them wt dein like people and the trophys will start to come in.

Mehrzad, 2 things; there are regulations in place in the FFP that negates the possibility of artificially inflated sponsorship. ManC is already being looked at for that reason. Furthermore, Cahill is overrated because he is English. Paying over the odds for a #3 or #4 CB… Koscielny and Vermaelen are the preferred CBs. Look at the report from Cahill’s last game. Shane Long enjoyed playing against Cahill on Saturday…
Don’t get me wrong, I think Cahill is a good player but how much is he worth? 50m, 30m, 15m? He had 1 year left on his contract and can in a few weeks talk to other clubs and walk for free next summer (only a sign on fee). With Mertesacker, Koscielny and Vermaelen, do we need him? I’d like Cahill to come, but not for any price. I’d prefer Verthongen myself.

Every time this guy opens his mouth I just wanna go to wherever he lives and rip his head off. The d*ckhead is ruining our great FOOTBALL club because all he cares about is money. Same as Kroenke and Hill Wood.
We need Uzmanov and Dein back!

@Malik Where were you when everyone was going on about how they are ok with Arsenal being mediocre as long as they are playing pretty football? That was a few posts ago. Anyway I’m glad I’m seeing more fans on this post who support to win, not so the greedy board can pocket more and we can end up a mediocre team that plays ‘pretty’ football. Arsenal is built upon success, the only reason why we are a great club was because our predecessors strove for victory.
I don’t see the point in supporting a club if our only ambition is to play pretty but not win. We are gunners for crying out loud, winning is in our blood.
Anyway I understand the business side of things, but really we have enough money to splash out here and there to buy AT LEAST two world class players that will really make or break us. We are good at the moment, but if we just had like I say one or two more killer players we could win some silverware. With victory comes added success, with success comes money. The board should understand this concept. If Arsenal become a mediocre team, slowly but surely money will be lost…especially from fans outside of England. A lot of the capital and sustainability Gazidis speaks of was built upon this concept. Internationally speaking, besides United, Madrid and Barcelona, I know of no other team as popular and well supported as the gunners. Having this mentality of not being worried about not playing in high profile cups, ‘because of economical longevity’ is nonsense. Over time that will soon wither away too…with a loss of a tremendous amount of fans comes a loss of capital, therefore no money to buy better players = no chance of winning anything ever again.
They need to find a way of balancing the two. Don’t overspend like City, Chelsea etc, but for crying out loud spend where you can at the right time. The last transfer window was a perfect example. We had the money for guys like Mata, Parker, Samba but the board were greedy. They would definitely have made a difference, especially Samba.
Let’s just hope Wenger can continue to do his magic with what little he has to work with. The board really need to piss off. We need people in their who first of all are not City supporters, and who love Arsenal and don’t mind sacrificing financially for the well being and continual success of the club.
