Gervinho needs to get on the scoresheet today
Arsenal are in their best form since the start of the season. From the back, we have a goalkeeper who has the ability to match his confidence, a solid defence bar a few careless moments, a flexible and fluid midfield and of course – van Persie.
The press naturally would need to find the weak point of the team and they unsurprisingly picked the Ivorian Gervinho. Since the start of the season, he has made a good impact down the wings, picking out teammates by cutting in from the left or right with excellent dribbling skills and then providing a usually accurate ball into the box.
However, he has slowed down a little now and in recent games he has been rather guilty of relinquishing possession, making a meal of controlling the ball and wayward finishing. The former two are flaws that Gervinho can of course change by playing more directly towards the centre, but the latter one – missing gilt-edged chances – is the most worrying one.
Arsene Wenger commented recently that “Gervinho is desperate for goals” and “His goalscoring record was good last year and this year is a bit less but his assists are fantastic and, in every single game, you think he will score. He just misses a little bit but that will come.”
He is very much right on the counts of Gervinho making assists, but the “little bit” of missing is a little downplayed. Fans will recall his rather dire miss against Chelsea after Walcott’s superb cross, him missing the open goal against Norwich after getting past their keeper and most recently against Dortmund on a one-on-one opportunity. Those were big chances that he missed but fortunately Arsenal still won those matches, although it has to be said that in more crucial matches, he will need to find the mark or it will prove costly.
Just like every other striker, he is facing a “dry patch” of goals at the moment, but I think that the criticism about him is a little over the top. All he needs to do is find the back of the net and his confidence and belief will return. We have seen how well he can play on the flanks, and with the whole Arsenal team playing well, they are more than capable of carrying Gervinho back to his deadly form. A goal against Fulham in today’s game would end his goal drought and hopefully start a fruitful run for the Ivorian!

Gervinho. Just wait for his form to pick up. and he will be one of the BPLs top winger. Or better, Europe. His speed, dribbling and footwork is exquisite. Can’t see him not scoring against fulham. Gunner 4 life.
Top Gooner!. Agree or not?:

Garvinho is definately afantastic player. Lets not be much concerned about him scoring. So long as he provides assists and the team wins ad a whole, we have all won. Lest he becomes mean and the whole team looses. Continue garv……

don’t put too much pressure on him. there is always an opportunity cost like making him too selfish in search of goals. he is okay, his assist are as good as goals but whenever a chance spruces he has to take it unscathed otherwise let the pressure shift to chamach this man should start to show why he is earning thousands in a week.

odnt this people have any better thing to do than criticise arsenal performance. dont you worry about gervinio, we are happy with his assist and performance, thanks to him and walcot RVP is top scorer in premier league and got no doubt when i say with gervinios and walcot assist RVP will be the best top scorer ever premier league seen.
gervinio made an impact into the team and i love his atitude and spirit.
in some ocasions he should have scored yes but who cares as long as he keep it up with the wonderfull performance.
my worry about gervinio isnt scoring but fetigue as it seems to me that he cant play full 90 min and thats a thing he should work on as for scoring will come naturaly. keep it up lads you made us proud once more.

admin, that one point u made is very important i.e gervinho has to quickly improve his finishing otherwise missing chances in crucial matches will attract criticism and draw flak from pundits.will ‘largely’ disappoint the fans.

Gervino is a fantastic player. I am not bothered about him scoring as long as he keep providing the needed assist which count as well.We do not need to pile much pressure on him to avoid jittery and anxiety. But am more concerned about the perfomance against Fulham, the players shown sign of fatigue whichis very worrisome being too early.Am scared also because the reserved players are not the quality that can stand the pressure of premiership/C L.Wengers comment recently of not adding to the squad in january makes it more worrisome. The team needs another prolific striker to support R V P,a defensive and/or attacking midfielder and a CB.
