Gibbs and Djourou are keen to start the season, Ramsey to follow…

Posted on July 26, 2010 by admin

Well it looks like Arsene Wenger is sticking to his guns, and bringing more youngsters through rather than buying ready-made replacements, but the Arsenal manager will be certainly heartened by the reduction in last seasons big injury list.

Robin Van Persie missed most of the year, and he has now played through to the World Cup Final with his country, so looks fully recovered from his ankle problem.

Kieran Gibbs was tragically injured just when it looked like he was going to have a long run in the first team, but he now believes he is fit and ready to be available for selection from the off. He has played in both pre-season games so far, and is happy with the way it is going. “My foot is all fine at the moment and I’m all ready for the new season,” he said today. “I feel good. My foot’s not causing me any problems and there has not been a lot of reaction to the metalwork I had in there.

“I’m still at that stage when I’m just happy to be running and free to play football again.”

Johan Djourou missed 99% of last season, but he will be like a new signing, and feels bigger and stronger than before his injury. He also has been involved in pre-season and is ready to take his chance in the first team: “Now it is time to step up and start,” Djourou said. “I will always say that, but now I am mature enough.

“We will have to see with the injury, because when you have it for so long it is difficult to come straight back into things.

“But I played 90 minutes against Strum Graz and it went well. I have to get other games under my belt and hopefully I will be ready.”

The only long term injury from last season is the young Welshman Aaron Ramsey, but even he has been back in light training for over a month now. Ramsey was originally forecast to be back “in the autumn” but if he carries on progressing at this speed he could be back with the first team by September.

All in all, perhaps Wenger doesn’t really need to buy any more players, he just needs these three (and the rest of the squad) to stay fit for the season…..

I still think we need a solid keeper and a big CB with experience to be confident. Simply because a lot of other teams such as City, Spuds, and L’pool are all looking to step it up, so it’ll be more intense at the top than last season. That said, I trust Wenger and co.

  5. Meh they will get injured january will come a key time to replace the injured player’s we still won’t buy anyone at the end of that transfer window wenger will say well we tried to sign this player etc we will get knocked out of everything summer will come the window will open wenger will feed the fans the sort transfer targets us fans have been begging for then not deliver the good’s I’m a admin arsenal fan but I’m sick of it absolutely sick. High hope’s for this season I’m not even bothering anymore when the season starts the squad will say the hole squad is ready we are mature it’s are time what bullock’s the squad can talk but can’t produce even when they know they are on the big stage. One thing I don’t get is they complain about where not winning trophy’s but have they realised who’s on the pitch playing the football.

AW should really push for Stekelenburg or Akfineev (spelling) :P and i think if the team pull their socks up we’ll be far more likely to do well this season than the last 5…

    @Jordan Milton,

Whine, moan, bleat and complain. We’ve not even started the season, mate, and here you are writing us off. What a bundle of joy you are.

Personally I think that the teams’s looking good, and I think we’ll do well. Wenger’s not by any means infallible, but he does look at players a lot more closely than you, and I’d trust his judgement over yours any day.

What people need to realise is that the average age of our side is very low. If every player between 18-27 improves physicaly or technically just 2-3% (as they should at this stage of their career) Then we have changed from a outsider in the league to a genuine contender before the new arrivals of chamack and kochielny (spellings on both :P ) As a fan i have one concern and thats almunia and his sub par performance and lack of physical presence. Just a new GK would calm down the fans and the team would feel a little more confident.

Please am begging Wenger, he should please buy a 1st class keeper if we are goin to do well next season.

  11. Sagz says:

Yea @ Jordan dat was a bit harsh on AW n Arsenal.. Sometimes u need 2 learn 2 trust d boss’s judgements… Fine.., we might nt have d perfect squad.. Bt i think its good enough. Look @ United’s squad.. We all thot dey were gon buy d “whole World” bt who has fergie bought?? Nobody as at 2day atleast. He’s trying 2 give d younger players a chance 2 see wot dey have got. plus d transfer window is still very much open 4 a month. Nt giving d man excuses bt if u r honest enough, u wud notice d man has let some unecessary “idiots” go.. e.g Gallas,Senderos n Silvestre. He even let Eduardo go.. These r d peeps dat let us down last season @ various times.. Lets wait n see plss.. Dnt be 2 fast 2 judge. In 2006.., united bought only Vidic n ruled d world for 3yrs plus.. Pls be a Gooner.., or go elsewhere.

  12. Gooner says:

@ Sagz: well said mate. All those who dont trust the team, why support it? go support those spurs!!
