Harry Redknapp Concerned About Player Abuse Ahead Of Sundays Game
Arsenal may have a Champions League game to play tonight, but already the tension is building ahead of the Derby against Spurs on Sunday afternoon. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has added to the rising tension with his comments today that he is expecting his new striker Emmanuel Adebayor to cop plenty of abuse at the weekend, something that he is not happy about.
Redknapp writes a column in the Sun newspaper and for those of you that have not seen it it reads, “Emmanuel Adebayor is certain to get stick from Arsenal fans on Sunday at White Hart Lane. Because of the rivalry between Tottenham and the Gunners and because he used to play for them, I would not expect them to greet him with a cheery wave. But the level of abuse and the nature of it is something that concerns me, not just in this one game, but with the viciousness with which some fans behave these days and consider it acceptable because football is ‘passionate’. What cobblers.”
Redknapp is right in what he says. The abuse is not needed no matter what has happened in the past.
Redknapp went on to write, “Adebayor sent Arsenal fans wild with rage for scoring against his old club two years ago. He ran the length of the pitch and slid on his knees in front of them in a gesture that was provocative. He apologised but what did he do that was so wrong? He had taken dogs’ abuse from the Arsenal fans all afternoon and then reacted. Scoring the goal was an immediate outlet of his frustration. In the end he had to say sorry. But I for one hope that he scores a couple of goals against Arsenal on Sunday. I get sick and tired of hearing that professional footballers must be exactly that and simply take the abuse they get in the name of ‘the game’ and that when they snap as human beings and react they are instantly condemned.”
Adebayor can score three for all I care as long as we score four. But seriously though I agree with Harry Redknapp. Some of the abuse that players have to take these days is unacceptable and if you went up to someone in a pub or club and said certain things, like what some ‘idiots’ shall we call them, chant at football games you would be arrested. Unfortunately in today’s society some ‘supporters’ have short memories when it comes to footballers and their past.

you think harry? really? what about all the abuse we arsenal fans received after the man utd game? then there’s the blackburn game? we fans can abuse you lot how much we want because these so called “professional” football are paid ridiculous money for a “job”.
if adebayor couldn’t tolerate the abuse then come, snap and attack one of them arsenal fan because i know, once you do that, he’ll get his stupid a$$ whipped so hard that you, harry, will feel the pain too.

There preferred centre back pairing are out, so I hope RVP can benefit from this. We have to be 110% up for that game. No excuses. Loving what is happening to man city at the moment. Ha ha ha.

no-offense spurs, but with many players coming back from injury i get a feeling dat spuds will struggle a bit against arsenal.my only fear is d ‘unpredictable defense’(weak mentality) which can collapse in a flash.remember last season against stoke and oh d season before against wigan……..(sometimes defense is gud as any a team and sometimes it will seem like dat of a club fighting relegation, but lets hope its d former).

Adebayor is a trouble maker. He caused strife at Arsenal and City. He stamped on RVP’s face. He deserves every bit of criticism and harsh treatment. I hope Per kicks him good and proper somme in the poes.

@big gun, very true he deserves all d chant..u know y ?? a footballer ought 2 respect d public or face d consequences.d stamping was 2 provocative ,celebration can b forgiven but not d stamp ….i believe in ‘give and take’ policy.its gud 2 forgive some1 if he does it in d heat of d moment or does it by mistake but not otherwise…….

many of us including me were laughing and mocking wen we came 2 know dat chamberlain was d ‘super-quality’ wenger meant.but now i realise dat hes not jus a player but a player whos accurate in shooting, passing, and 1 who can kick d ball with superb power(like tv5,i saw dat in his 2 goals).d fact dat his father was also a gr8 player if i am right makes it better 4 him. thus having proper guidance from both his dad and wenger.hes 17 now,how will he be wen hes some 21….. wow

Adebayor used to be a favorite of mine but he is the prime example of a greedy footballer who obviously never completed a humble act in his life. Other than that arsenal are regainin more form from today’s showing. I agree Ox will be somethin for other teams to fear in the future but no need to hype him with pressure right now. Let the youngin come up without expectations. Arteta, song were top class with sanga, Santos and Ox right behind them. Chamakh seems to be doing better but still has problems passing. I hope we destroy spurs this weekend, up gunners

bulls#it adefagyor doesn’t deserve abuse, we made the ass*ole who he is/was, n as soon as he started scoring he left 4 a few extra dollars in a time that we needed him then he steps on RVP’s face the 1st game he gets 2 play against us n if that isn’t enough he celebrates in front of the supporters that made who he is. eduardo scored against us at the emirates n looked ashamed about it while every1 gooner got out of their seat n clapped 4 him that’s y u never hear any1 say anything bad about eduardo but 4 players who left 4 an extra buck n disrespect arsenal every chance they get (e.g cashri, clish#t, adefagyor n cashley ahole) u hear people wishing them the worst because thay ungrateful bast#RDS n i hope song breaks adefagyors leg on sunday n the gooners win COMFORTABLY
GOONER TILL I DIE

Poor Harry try to open the wound from this London Derby. Adebayor just a former player we are not interested on him. Past is past. I’m more interested in we winning the game. Our Defence will be under enormous pressure. So a coolder head and experience players should start for this game. Every player should do their part in defending and attacking.Winning is a certainty if our Midfield players are dynamic enough to support RVP in 6 yards box from the crosses.

Two things made me laugh about Harry’ comments. One was that the chant we were singing at Adebayor (about elephants and his mother) was made up by SPURS fans! And the second is that spurs fans are the worst in the league for giving abuse!!
While I agree that a lot of chants do go WAY to far I think Harry needs to take a look closer to home on this one.
