Has Djourou blown his last chance at Arsenal?
The Swiss centre-back Johann Djourou has been at Arsenal for many years, and it was hoped that he would grow into a world-class centre-back, but after seven years at the club (He’s 25 now) he is still nothing but a bit part-player at the Emirates.
He played a record 22 games for Arsenal last season, but that was only due to the usual extended defensive injury list, and this season’s similar injury problems means that he has played a few games as right back.
But if ALL Arsenal’s defenders were available, Djourou would be fourth-choice centre-back, and after Wenger hauled him off against Man United and replaced him with the untested Nicholas Yennaris it is even more unlikely that he will be used as a right-back again.
Surely Wenger must know by now that Djourou will never make the first team at Arsenal and he will have to let him move on as soon as possible, and bring in a new centre-back that could challenge for a first-team place rather than a perrenial disappointing back-up!

This guy alongside Almunia and Squillachi should have been hauled off Arsenal eons ago, they are exactly the people who have dragged our defence into the mire it is in currently and Wenger doesn’t get exonerated from being involved because he fields them(had fielded them) and for refusing to sign other defenders a case in point it is said Arsenal offered Bolton 12 millions pounds which was rejected in the summer why didn’t they pay the 7 million that Chelsea paid? With that paid the deficit would have been used to make his package lucrative.

he is a terrible defender. against united on the weekend they were playing cross filed balls and never tried once to attack the ball , and let nani bring it down out of the air and have time and space on the ball . i really do think THE BIG GERMAN , KOS and TV5 are top defenders. it took KOS last season to learn the english game and adapt but look at him now , cahill is not a top defender in my opinion just pover priced because hes an english center back , THE GERMAN will come good and has stablised our defence at times this season because we have conceded less from corners or free kicks. but DJOUROU HAS TO GOOOO

I was at the United game, sitting by the corner flag where Djourou was defending. If you think he looked bad on TV, I can assure you his display was WORSE up close.
He looked awful, slow and just not good enough. Can’t wait to see Bacary Sagna back!!

It’s true. Jack Wilshere is injured again. The idiots at this club will keep it under cover untill the window closes. It’s unknown how long he’s out but he won’t play next month. So Arsenal’s chancs of finishing in top 4 looks very bleak now unless wenger brings in another creative midfielder.

I honestly had high expectations of Djourou. When Kolo Toure was sold, Djourou was to be the replacement. He unfortunately became injured for 6 months with a knee injury and has never really recovered. The team has evolved around him and he seems to have plateaued.
I think Miquel shows more promise and determination to play well. Miquel also seems equally adapt at playing LB the odd game.
I think Djourou’s time at Arsenal is coming to an end. Would Wenger halt the exciting progression of Miquel over Djourou, who seems to play poorly at CB and even worse at RB?
We have 2 top quality CB’s – Vermaelen and Koscielny
we have 1 CB who is adapting slowly (I didn’t mean that literally) to the EPL and I believe will become great.
And finally we have Miquel 20 years of age, and so far hasn’t put a foot out of place when he has played. He and Yennaris look potentially exciting players!
IF Djourou is sold, out of all of the players who have been linked at Arsenal Vertonghen is the only player I would love to see at Arsenal in defence. Vertonghen for Djourou, Miquel could play in FA and Carling cup matches or possibly a loan deal. The only reason he has played this season, is due to massive injuries to our defence. However, he has shown us he is a quality talent.
Imagine 4 CB’S instead of: Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Djourou
we have: Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vertonghen

At last he is in the spot light, I’ve been saying it for ages totally useless defender especially at right back, a wingers dream, any reserve or youth full back would be better. Wenger just refuses to give up on some players? What goes through his head when he had the chance to get Cahill/Samba but sticks with this clown?

Yes Huge Rumours flying around that Wenger is after 1 midifelder and rumours are flying around that it is Eden Hazard.
Because still unconfirmed: JACK WILSHERE HAS SUFFERED A SETBACK AND IS SET TO MISS THE REST OF THE SEASON. Hope its not true. Just Twitter Rumours. If its true huge blow to top 4 and champtions league aspirations. But as it says wenger will proberbly try and bring in 1 midfielder if it is the case.

to Bring back my Arsenal, Cahill from Bolton will always be a not to arsenal after the disappointing approach. At first I though it was only Bolton greedy to take 13mils on the final year defender, now even the press said Cahill initial demand is 100k perweek. That’s more than RVP. How many defender in the world get 100k perweek with the quality of Bolton?
With 13 million and 100k wages I think you could take any defenders in the world. Just they might not have EPL exp. 10mil and maybe less wages you get a German captain (Per) with more caps and exps, they are similar in ages. Per admit he is arsenal fans, Cahill didn’t admit that. What Cahill interested is money, we don’t need another Nasri who come and go after 2 years of good season then demand wage of more than 100k which push to match Fabregas. Do understand the wage cap in Arsenal will not allowed Wenger to paid record wage to a not so world class defender.

Rather have Senderos back in as 4th choice than Djourou… However to make matters worse for him was the lacklustre performance Walcott put in on the right flank against United which left Djourou on the whole One against Two. But thats no real defence- he is still bloody awful. If no Sagna against Villa then will cheer for Yennaris and pray he gets the support he needs in order to perform. Cmon u gooners.

Let Djourou be in the first team, in the end he is a fourth choice defender. vertonghen did not deserved to be fourth choice, he has talent. I would like to see ver to developed into a world class player. If he come to Arsenal to replace Djourou, he will be wasted when our first choice back 4 recovered.

I admit that Djourou has been average at best this season, but just 12 months ago people were going on about how great a player he is!! ffs how fickle can you get. do you guys not remember how good he was before he got injured at Newcastle!?! I am confident that he can get back to the form that he was in last season he just needs to be given more of a chance.
he is not in the same category as squillaci, silvestre, senderos, cygan etc he is much better than that!

Come on guys, Djourou is a classic Wenger signing. He has a long history of signing rubbish defenders. Every year we look nostalgically back on the rubbish defender of yesteryear and realise that the current one is even worse than the previous ones and actually begin to think for a split second ‘I wish Silvestre was here, he was terrible but not as bad as Djourou’.

i think we can see the year repeating itself with jack wiltshire injury the same thing happened with verminator last year telling us he would be back and he didn’t come back in time to do anything has we where effectivity out of every competion but this time he better buy because it leaves us with no real creative midfielder in the middle of the park and jack was the one we where all depending on to feature we have ac milan in less than 3 weeks arsene you need to spend even if it just a loan

When I see Djourou in Arsenal defense I always panic. Does Wenger know the quality of his players? Look at Yennaris you can’t compare with Djourou.I remember Guardiola quoted last season that when he saw him in Arseal line up against Barc all was well with him.

Mistake number one, taking so long to sort the nasri and fab situations that we had no time to replace them. Mistake number two, not having players lined up in january to replace them. Mistake number 3, relying on the injured players to come back and save the day! With our injury history I can’t believe we have done that. Lack of proper investment in this squad is going to prove the biggest mistake of all!

I thought it was interesting when Nasri said that Wenger is a great manager but maybe cares little too much about his players. Even though Nasri is a sellout, it explains why Wenger sticks with certain players even if they’re not performing.
