Have Barcelona opened the door for Villa to join Arsenal?
Arsenal were linked with David Villa weeks ago, and may even have had a bid turned down by Barcelona. The Spanish giants have declared that Villa is a vital member of the squad and they need him for the rest of the season, but something is not right. Stories hit the papers that the 31-year old striker was pushing for the transfer to Arsenal, because what the club was saying was not reflected in the reality of his situation.
It is believed that Arsenal will return to Barcelona with an offer in the last days of the transfer window. Whether the club agrees to the sale or not could be determined by whether they have persuaded Villa to stick with it. Last night was a chance to show Villa that he is valued, but they did the exact opposite.
Villa has played in all of the Copa Del Rey matches for which he has been fit so far, but was left warming the bench next to Alex Song last night. It was a crucial second leg for the Catalans, after drawing the home leg 2-2 with Malaga. It was a tight game until Barcelona’s pressure finally paid off to seal the tie. Even then, when substitutions were made and Messi went off, Villa remained on the bench while Alexis Sanchez, Adriano and Thiago got a run out.
Villa must have been furious and will be left in no doubt that his career at Barcelona is at an end. They seem to prefer giving games to players who have come through the ranks, such as Tello, Alexis and Pedro, even though Villa has outscored them all with much fewer games.
It could be fantastic news for Arsenal fans if it leads to the transfer of Villa to the Emirates next week. There is one league game on Sunday and the first leg of the cup semi-final against Real Madrid left for Barcelona to change Villa’s mind, but I think he got the message loud and clear last night.

Well after hearin/reading wengers press conference 2day.. I Don’t expect no signings!!!! We are so out of touch… And I’ve just read that we was in for zaha but we didn’t want to pay over 7mil… To think we paid 12mil for a 16year old 100metre sprinter….. I totally agree we are now a midtable team, trying to with play with the big boys… Only thing I smile about these days is we’ve got 1 special player and watching him is a treat.. (Mr wilshere)

Wenger just confirmed in press conference he will not go after Villa.

We will end the season 6th only just. I think we will drop 5 more games as the arsenal can no longer play there way out of problems like we did. get somt things straight though, Alexis Sanchez did not come through the ranks. Kid was with Udinese until 2011.
As for Villa being on the bench, it could be down to fitness issues, his form, form of the other players or a combination of the three.
The question that bothers me is, why would we get rid of RVP coz he is 29 with fitness issues and go for Villa at 31 with fitness issues?I for one is not as excited as most guys

Well, all hopes are not lost. Arsene Wenger is a man who speaks in tongues because nothing he says about transfers ever makes sense. Based on that alone, I will not read meaning into whatever he says. Days before we bought carzola, wenger said he had never heard of him. Now he is saying there is nothing ‘concrete’ about our interest in David villa. Concrete? Isn’t that wenger speak for, ‘Something is up but I cannot say more and I will neither confirm nor deny our interest’? When wenger is not interested in a player, he can be very clear about it. Case in point, when it was obvious that Zaha was going to united, wenger ended the specualtion by saying that we were never in for him. But wenger never said we are not in for David Villa.

Just to give Arsenal fans a clear picture of Villa’s situation at Barca.
Villa has scored more goals than Pedro and Sanchez, and he has hardly started a game, also Villa has been leading Barca through the Copa del Rey, that is until last nights game, the issue is that Iniesta has been pushed to the wing to open up space for Cesc to play in midfield, the reason why Villa has been shut out. Villa is also not injury prone, he is always fit, I think he is good to go for another 4 years, still an exelent football player, age is just a number, just check out Toti from Roma.
