Henri Lansbury – “ If I have To Go Then I have To Go”
Arsenal’s Henri Lansbury has only made a handful of appearances in his time at the Emirates and he has already been loaned out to West Ham United this season. Highly rated by Boss Arsene Wenger he has never really had the chance to shine, and he realises that if he wants to progress in the game he may have to move on.
He made a great start for his new club at the weekend scoring one and winning a penalty, as well as starring for the England Under-21′s the week before.
In an interview at the weekend Lansbury said, “If I have to go then I have to go. I spoke with him (Wenger) and he said I wouldn’t play that much football. I’m not the type to just sit around. I need to be playing and West Ham gave me a chance so I want to take it. It’s a great squad and I can learn from them. There are big game players here.”
Arsene Wenger once said of Lansbury, “Henri Lansbury is a type of player who I rate because of his qualities, but as well his mental strength, the timing of his runs. He gives you qualities that are very difficult to find in the modern game. He goes always behind [the defence] and he has the timing to get in the box and scores goals from midfield. I like his attitude, his spirit, his mental strength and of course his qualities.”
If Arsene Wenger rates, or should that say rated, him so much why has he been farmed out to yet another Championship club. Would you like to see Lansbury at The Emirates guys, or do you think his time is up?

Wenger likes a lot of the players, but they don’t always make it. He may have said these things to offer encouragement.
In this case I hope Lansbury does sign a new contract and stays at arsenal. From what I’ve seen, he is/will be good enough, imo. He does have something different to what we have in the squad currently, and I don’t actually think there’s much between him and ramsey. Lansbury might well have proven to be a more reliable/consistent performer this season, had he stayed and been given a chance.
I don’t think wenger has ever been wrong in letting one of the youth players go; the ones who’ve left have never really gone on to be anything special, fringe international players at best, but I think Lansbury is someone worth keeping if possible, and we might regret letting him go.

Mr wenger has got this one wrong Lansbury has shown he is a class player in the championship and u21 level. He should have gone out on loan to a premier league team last season and should be in the Arsenal squad this season.Mr wenger is to busy scouting the world for teenagers to notice what is right under his nose,Lansbury just hasn’t been given the chance to prove himself in the red of Arsenal.

NO plz stay Lansbury all the fans that have seen u play (and also the ones that haven’t) know how good u r, Wenger would be stupid to not give him a chance, he says he rates him but doesn’t even play him, and if his qualities r hard to find in the modern game, y would u let him go? He could share the midfield spot with wilshere, Ramsey and aneke! They would rotate it would be good I hope he stays

Here is my opinion Lansbury is a good young player but unfortunately he is looking to get a place in the first team at a time when arsene and arsenal are under so much pressure to win a trophy so theres no space for Lansbury to develop in the first team

sadly very few of the ‘bright young things’ manage to push through to the big stage…and recent history is littered with nearly-men
Aliadiere to Middleboro’…Larrson to Birmingham…Stokes who went off to Sunderland and is now scoring heavily with Celtic…Quincy Owusu Abeiye somewhere in Russia…Arturo Lupoli…the Hoyte brothers…J.E.T now at Ipswich…Mark Randall now at Chesterfield…Bartley at Rangers & Vela in Spain
the list is endless and i feel that Lansbury will just become another on that list who will finally have to ply his trade elsewhere

This is the same circular argument. For Lansbury to get more time last year Fabregas, Nasri, Ramsey or Wilshere would have to be replaced. As we moved toward the business end of the season the ability to put a youngster in diminished. The same applies to Vela and Bendtner. Many moan that they didnt get opportunities but were you gonna replace RvP just to get them more playing time.
This is football. Many excellent players play in the shadow of 2 or 3 individuals – Arteta may have played for Spain in any other generation.
Lansbury is a talented player who at 20, wants to play football – he has done well at Championship level but he appears to be unwilling to bide his time and be satisfied with a bit part at the moment. He also feels the breath of talented individuals on the back of his neck and so his alternative is to look elsewhere.
Given our chronic lack of experience he finds himself now behind Arteta, Benayoun, Ramsey and Wilshere and perhaps Diaby. It is arguable he may play better on occasion but his loan spells indicate that is not always the case. He put in a shocker in his one pre-season game and really only has himself to blame. Compare him with Wilshere – Man of the match @ Emirates Cup last year means Arsene decides to keep him. By the end of 2010 he is indispensable for both Arsenal and England. Is Wilshere more talented – perhaps but the thing that stands out to me Jack grabbed his opportunity with both hands.
I reality many younger players who show promise as juniors eventually move on and find their level for many reasons. Some lack the mental approach needed for top flight eg JET.
Not every player in Arsenals juniors U/16′s U/18′s U/19′s Reserves will make it into Arsenal’s top team.

I feel that Lansbury has a future at Arsenal. Probably not the impact as Wilshire, but more of a squad player. Benayoun is only here for a season due to his experience, rosicky only has a few more years left. So with his experience gained at West Ham, he could prove to offer us depth in squad.

lansbury needs to stay quiet and keep performing coz he’s still an arsenal player and developing. otherwise he’ll join david bentley and co.
he’s not the only victim of summer trouble we had with cesc and nasri then the old trafford tragedy. arsene loves his young players but this time he couldn’t replace our departed stars with kids, even some of you lansbury brigade weren’t going to accept it. he bought yossi and arteta instead.
being on loan at westham, at least he’s playing everyweek what about other promising kids who’s development has been put on hold, ie afobe, miyaichi, chamberlain. it seems to me that they’ve been relegated to carling cup games till maybe next year.
lansbury needs to be patient and stop talking to the media.

Gents let’s be honest all the english players in the XI have had to force their way in.
He can’t bench Walcott cos he scores more often than not even though he plays him out of position way out on the rite.
He tried to bench Wilshere last year when Diaby came back but fortunately Diaby got injured again and then got a stupid red against Newcastle.
The Hoyte brothers were our wingback options till he opted for Traore who he then farmed out first to Juve then QPR.
12m on Chamberlain but you refuse to bid 17m on Cahill or Jag?
Bent was available while @ Sunderland and has admitted he is an Arsenal fan, but we got Chamakh in stead? Carlton Cole vs Chamakh n Bendtner?
Now Lansbury vs Rosicky & Ashravin, I dont remember the last time these 2 played well, but I remember the only time we beat Tottenham last year Lansbury set up 1 and scored the other sliding it into the net like Ian wright used to. Just be patient young man there will be opportunities this season esp. given the players that were brought in. If Coquelin can start a game surely Lansbury can get game time too?
Or am I reading too much into this?

why did cleverly go on so much loans till he was 22… why do you assume that wenger made a mistake, lansbury was sent to gain some experience…

Wenger should’ve kept Lansbury and used him as nasri’s replacement cos if u ask me he’ll be better than nasri in a year n is already of that quality now!

yeah, i dont understand why wenger kept sending lansbury & vela on loan, if he wanted them to have some experience then give them a chance to play for the first team. the squad is too big? well damn arsenal cant have a squad too big, seeing how our players go down one by one because of weird injuries.

what bothers me about lansbury is his lack of oppertunities, check the stats he gets absolutely no chance at all! where as players like vela have had ample oppertunity. wenger has judged him on about an hours football this pre season and its wrong.
if hes not good enough so be it! but to put so much time and effort and years of developmentment into a player and not even be prepared to give him 90 mins in our jersey its rediculas, more over it shows a complete failure of the youth system.
Henry is NO BENTLEY! mark my words he will go on to be one of the best midfielders in the prem and for england and if its not for us it will be a traversty.
Do you guys have any idea how many clubs contacted wenger when they heard he was to be loaned? try every club in every league in england apart from the prems top 4 or 5 clubs!!!!

Henri Lansbury has extended his contract with Arsenal. So he will surely play for us next season or maybe after January, if the squad needs him. Wenger always rated him higher & I am sure he will get his chance next season.

@ toby:
Wenger judges players by their official games and by what they achieve in training sessions. Is vela better than Van Persie or even walcott? Should they be benched to give him a chance? In my opinion a loan is the best option… First team experience and life experience because they go in smaller clubs and see how lucky they are to be in Arsenal.
@ Sheperd:
The boy just signed a contract extention you should be happy with Wenger this time, and you HAVE to admit he is NOT anti english players. People complaining about that are blind. The Hoyte brothers? That’s what you wanted for us this season? Think about it… With jenkinson, wilshere, ramsey, lansbury, walcott, chamberlain and more to come, I think it’s obvious that Wenger is trying to build up a strong british squad.
Oh and 17 M for Cahill is a joke, same for jagielka. I don’t say I wouldn’t like him to join the team, but this price is a joke. Hopefully he’ll come for free next summer!
Come on gunners let’s kick some german asses!
