Here is a squad of current Arsenal players that couldn’t win the Championship!
Arsene Wenger keeps going on about he will only ever spend money in the transfer window if he can find “super-quality” players or “better than we already have”. Well I personally think that it would be VERY easy to find players that are better than most of our current squad!
So I found this excellent post on ArsenalBanter.com which has put my thoughts perfectly into words, so I am going to introduce this as a guest post. Over to you Andrei……

Arsenal are one of the Top Four richest clubs in the world, only marginally below Man Utd, Real Madrid and I believe we are above Barcelona in the cash rankings, but how does our squad compare with such illustrious teams?
I am going to give you a list of players that Arsenal still pay the wages of, and I want you to tell me which of these (if any) would get into any of our closest competition’s teams, or if they were all at another team I doubt whether they could even win the Championship!
Almunia (Not a hope in hell!)
Fabianski (Four good games out of about 50!)
Jenkinson (Will probably become a Finland international, and???)
Gibbs (If he ever plays more than four games in a row I might think differently)
Djourou (Replaced by Yennaris against Man Utd, Nuff said?)
Squillaci (Don’t get me started on that one)
Mertesacker (Is German football really that slow?)
Denilson (Wants to be a Brazilian international lol)
Diaby (See comment about Gibbs)
Ramsey (I’m afraid the injury has had a bigger effect than we thought, or maybe he was always this bad?)
Benayoun (Couldn’t get into Liverpool’s team, or Chelsea’s, but good enough for Arsenal?)
Rosicky (Another one that has been ‘promising’ for ten years!)
Arshavin (I feel he could have been a legend, but couldn’t get up the enthusiasm)
Walcott (Promising, promising, but rarely delivers…)
Chamakh (A great player in Ligue 1, but at Arsenal?)
Park (When will we ever know if he’s good enough?)
Bendtner (The Greatest Striker in the World – in his head!)
Vela (A possible Chicharito at one point – What went wrong?)
Can anyone name me just ONE out of that list that would get into Man Utd’s team, or Barcelona’s or Real Madrid’s. NONE! thats how many.

I agree with most of what you say, Ramsey in my opinion has been trying too hard and will be a top player, too early to make a decision on Jenkinson, shame Vela is on loan right now because I think this would have been the perfect time to give him a run in the side as I do think he has class?

What is it with yours and other bloggers obsession with yennaris.. you’ve seen him for 45 minutes of football and he actually got beat a couple of times, united just didn’t make us pay..
Not saying he isn’t a good kid for the future.. just don’t expect so much then flame him out with the other 18 people listed in the article if he doesn’t deliver.. 45 minutes is an extremely small sample size

merty and park are also good player but i think they need their time…

Jenkinson – Before his injury (by the way, how did this injury occur? does anyone know?) he was beginning to show promise. I was sceptical before, but he began convincing me. So I’m reserving judgment and giving him the benefit of doubt.
Gibbs – When Clichy began at Arsenal, he too had injury problems when we needed him to replace Cole. He then played 6 solid years at Arsenal and became an integral LB as well as one of the top 5 LB’s in the world. At Gibbs’ age he still has time on his side, and so, again, I’m not writing him off either.
Mertesacker – Yes he is slow, but he has an aura of confidence and calmness. His height is a major advantage at set pieces. I think he is slowly acclimatising, and has improved over the last couple of weeks.
Diaby – He could have been great. His luck is so unfortunate, had he managed a full year, I believe his career could have been different. I think it could be time to allow him to leave to make way for a younger player, such as Coquelin. However it is not for a lack of desire or skill that Diaby should be placed with Bendtner or Denilson for example.
Ramsay – Again, I’m not convinced he has recovered mentally from his horrendous injury. I think it would be a relief for him, to allow Wilshere to share the high level of responsibility this guy is taking at the moment. At 20 he is young, and age is on his side also.
Walcott – He is improving and over the last 2 years has improved. I am beginning to feel I’m sticking my neck out for him though. He needs to take his game to the next level and begin so, quickly.
Vela – Huge promise, but never got the chance to show it at Arsenal. His goal scoring record is quite good 12 starts – 6 goals. I’m not sure why we continue to loan him, and not give the chance he deserves. His confidence may have taken to many blows from constant rejection and his age is slowly catching up with him.
The players from the list that I haven’t mentioned, I believe are not up to standards at this point in time, whether it be for confidence reasons, or over confidence. Lack of desire to play for Arsenal, or old age. Or simply not suited to Arsenal’s style of play or the EPL.
I think that many of these names have been mentioned on here for these reasons or another. However I think we should not focus on the negatives at Arsenal, but instead focus on the positives.
We have arguably the best young GK in the EPL in Szcesney
We have 2 quality CB’s in Vermaelen and Koscielny (who this season, has been a revelation)
we also have Sagna who has been a devoted servant at Arsenal and until this injury, has been ever present in the first team
we have 2 young up and coming stars in DMC, Coquelin and Frimpong, with Song who has grown in the last 3 years, into a fantastic player
We then have the young Jack, who when he returns will certainly help our creative problems in the midfield
We also have RVP, the most gifted and on form Striker in the PREM
Look at the positives as well as the negatives, things are not as bad as they seem.

There is no doubt that the current first team is among the worst that Arsenal has had in a long time. In addition to that few of the ‘promising’ players have managed to reach their potential. While about two or three years ago we were tipped to be one of the best teams in the world, we have ended up much worse than we were then. Clearly changes need to be made, the first of which should be a change in the transfer policy. Just spend about 50 mil to avoid the ‘possible’ doom. Personally, I would like to see us buy Gotze, Podolski & Cissokho. If we dont buy world class players now, we probably never will cause with the current team odds are that we wouldnt be qualifying for the Champions league next year.

Most of you will disagree but I think Wenger should start Arshavin ahead of Ramsey at CAM position because Ramsey is terrible atm and arshavin sucks at defending so why does he play on the wing. Arsenal ruined arshavin not the other way around!!!

Jenkinson is better than raphael and ramsey is better than anderson. so theres 2 players that would get in man uniteds squad. i would say gibbs is better than fabio but neither are fit enough to prove it.

Lets forget Gotze, he’s always injured. I just read about his new injury is a stress fracture in his pubic bone and will be out up to 2 months.
Sell Arshavin and get Marco Reus. Watched him play against Bayern Munic this weekend and he’s a special player and his age is like spanish fly for Wenger. If he were French and not German Arsene would have bought him already.
For me AA could’ve been a star had Wenger not played him on the wing. He’s getting older and last a step or two.
Ramsey is just tired. He needs a rest and a few more years and he’ll be a great player I think, more in the cut of Arteta than Cesc, but a solid first team player.
Rosicky I think, had he not been plagued with injuries would’ve been another great player with Hleb like performance, too bad he has had the Diaby bug.
The only other of our players I think could make it are Theo and Park. Depends on the time they are allowed to play and the position they’re played in. Theo is not a winger, period! Park is a great player, just need to play him.

how can you say that Rambo is bad he has missed Wilshere in the middle and song has played rubbish for the past 5 or 6 games even though he is a good player and everyone is not jumping on his back! Give Rambo a flipping break (pun not intended), he cannot do everything as walcott for me has been terrible this season and no wing backs most of the season I just think Ramsey NEEDS a rest as he is trying too hard to make up for the s&% players and the missing players.

i agree, with u vela is class, yet the last 2 seasons he has been sent out on loan why ? when we have to tolerate bendtner, chamahk and arshavin,, even walcott, vela is a class above all these players , but for some reason , mr know all wenger, loans him out, get him back in the team along side rvp, he will score goals ,

I think all are being a little harsh on Ramsey. He is a type of player who is benifited from from his partner. When he was playing alongside Arteta he provided some breath taking through balls. Some even reminded me of Bergkamp. He is actually good. I am sure he will regain his form by the return of Wilshere. I still remember the mid field performance of Song-Ramsey-Wilshere at emirates against man u last season. And Rosicky is really underrated. Mertsacker needs more time to adapt. Kos6 was also the same last season.

We have a bunch of average players except RVP. Song and Sagna are above average, Walcott is below average and when he loses his speed in 3 years time, he can retire from football. Ramilson should join Denilson out for loan and hope they would not return.

RAmsey before his injury that guy was flying all over the pitch ,imo he was an even bigger talent than wilshere my word he was quick , had amazing stamina he was that box to box midfielder man amazing, its just he didnt play against barca u know the world didnt see him play ,but u know the impact that the injury had is what we call a career ending one and i might not be career ending but his light is going out slowly if he keeps coming with displays like this season , in 3 years hell probably will play for some midtable team elsewhere im afraid .Roscicky has had some woeful displays but i think he is getting better and better he was quite good against manu.For the rest u know arshavin was a great player for us that contrubited a lot altough people seem to forget quick i dont ,hes having a very very bad year but we have to respect for what he did for us u know.And the rest come on poor article i mean u can make one for every team even barcelona and real madrid so .

im an arsenal fan thru and thru. i love the club. ive been a red member for as long as ive been able to. id love a season ticket but the waiting list is so long i doubt i will get 1 in my lifetime.if you guys that are lucky enough to have a season continue to boo our managers decisions and at the same time put even more pressure on our players, like arshavin. who for all his faults is not complaining and is playing week in week out!!! not injured!!! like so many. give the guys a break, give arsene a break and start supporting your team. maybe if we all created the kind of atmosphere you get at the etihad, upton park or anfield, then maybe we cud get another 5 or 10% out of our players who are quite clearly lacking some confidence right now. im not slagging off our season ticket holders, they are the lifeblood of our club and i respect each and every one of you. but should any of you feel so pissed off that you have to boo and sing anti arsene songs, then ill be more than happy to give you my name and address and would gladly buy your season ticket off you and come along to the emirates every week and sing and cheer my beloved arsenal on.

I don’t think all of them are really bad players.Some are terrible.But I want to keep Jenkinson,Gibbs,Djourou,Mertesacker,Ramsey,Rosicky,Walcott,Park,Vela out of the list.Because,Jenkinson – is still young,Gibbs – a good player when injury free,Djourou – not very bad as a stop gap player(naturally a CB but used at RB),Mertesacker – is a world class defender just need time to settle in the English football,his performance against man utd. was really good and he is improving,Ramsey – no doubt is a good player but don’t compare him with Fabregas.beside that he created a lot of chances at the start of this campaign and he is still young,always better than players like Cleverly,Rosicky – a creative AM/CM who still works hard on his game and always there to create chances and orchestrate the attack he is an experienced lad who can add a lot of toughness in the squad,Walcott – whenever he scores and asists fans talk a lot of good things about him and when he doesn’t perform they are really harsh but you have to think that every opposition LB are always be worried in any game about him,Park – he has not been given chances this is all about Mr. Wenger,Vela – He had much potential than chicharito but I don’t know why he can’t explore his talent probably he has not been given more chances as Wenger had more faith on Bendtner than him.

@CRABBY Ramsey tries hard and that’s about it. He loses the ball too often (statistics show the most so far in the BPL) and does not have that nimble touch we need in AM. He is at best a bench player. How can you write off Song? Did you see much of Rooney on Sundays game? Not really. That is because he was being marked by Song.
The midfield is what dictates our game pace and possession of the ball. It is the heartbeat in any team. Have a sub par midfield and the other team will dictate. Why do you think Barca are the best team in the world? Because they have the best midfield. Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas control the game. They have the vision and anticipation to change the game to counter the other teams style of play. Ramsey, Benayoun, Diaby, Denilson are just not up to that level. Rosicky is the only midfielder at the moment who looks dangerous when he gets the ball. He is more direct and has more vision than all the other midfielders we currently have, except Jack ofcourse. Ramsey has been given plenty game time to prove his worth, and on a rare occasion he does, but consistency is another thing that makes a player. That is why Arshavin and Ramsey are not good enough to be in a squad competing for titles. But then again, concerning Wenger and the board, we do not fit into that category anyway.

Why does everyone think that two left footed (one legged) midfield players who are both best playing the deep “defensive” role can be the Arsenal midfield. Arteta and Wilshire can only play on the left so we are going to play without a right footed player? This deep position makes it easier to maintain possession and more likely to have a high pass completion rate as the player is under less pressure on the ball. The CAM needs overlapping fullbacks for passing. If you play narrowly then this player will be the one under most pressure in the team (Fabregas was never put in this position when playing for Arsenal) as he always had overlapping fullbacks. Ramsay has had to furrow a very lonely path with only three players in front of him and most of the time lots of defenders with little space to find – this is why he is caught in possession as he has no one to pass to in any space. Before the injuries to fullbacks some of his passing was first class as is his passing when he plays for Wales. Ramsay, Wilshire and Song will be a very effective midfield and I look forward to seeing them have a long run of games with Sagna and Santos overlapping.

Joke of an article. Only man city can boast a squad of quality. We do have some dead wood (chamak, arshavin) but look at chelsea, spuds, manure etc and you can list 9 or 10 players that we wouldnt be happy with.
Dont understand the Ramsay bashing, hes a quality player, needs a rest for sure.
Im sure you werent bitching like a clueless woman before the fulham game, when we were on a great run. How comes you got players on loan in list, there not with us at the moment, so why bitching about not having them.

He didn’t have dat responsibility as picking up players, dictating our flow of game etc. He sat deep behind fab jx as ramsey used to do b4 his injury. Now dat fab is gone and ramsey is crowned wid dat responsibility we think he’s not good, he’s jx not up to dat level. Our squad is not as bad it seems though in honesty i think we need to get rid of some players and inject better ones.
Wenger is one of the best coach any club can boast of but the arsenal board is helping his course and i think the board is the cause of this lack of achievements/trophies as their concern is basically on incomes(£) and wenger has always fends for them remember arsenal and wenger when david dien was the chairman and you will see how much we’ve achieved during that era.
Lets hope for a change in the board and once again we get to enjoy the things we loved about our darling arsenal.

Apart from Sagna,Persie, Wilshere, Vermaelen, Arteta, Kosceilny, Szczesny, Song, Gervinjo, Santos, Mertesacker, Rosicky and Chamberlain,the rest are complete mistake, waste of time and money. And they are so so killing our emotions.
