Jenkinson may get an England call up by TS
Carl Jenkinson is having his break out season. News that Roy Hodgson is planning an England call-up for the young defender has come as a shock to some but when you look at his overall performances this year, its not shocking at all.
The right back has been Arsenal’s most improved player this season so far, so much so that the England manager is now considering the 20 year old to be included in the England squad. Bacary Sagna’s injury has made way for Jenkinson, allowing the defender to play every minute for the Gunners this season before Wednesday’s League Cup tie against Coventry. Jenkinson has been a part of Arsenal’s impressive defense this season which has seen the Gunners’ leak in just two goals in the Premier League.
Finland are desperate to call up Jenkinson and their interest in the player is forcing Hodgson into making a move for the young Arsenal defender sooner than expected. Jenkinson, who joined Arsenal for £1m from Charlton last summer, has already helped Hodgson by turning down a senior Finland call-up in anticipation of being selected for England.
Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker are Hodgson’s first-choice right-back options but Jenkinson’s chances of a call-up have increased after their back-up, Liverpool defender Martin Kelly, suffered a season-ending knee injury at the weekend. Many feel that Johnson, although good going forward is
Arsene Wenger must be laughing at this right now as he predicted England would come calling. The Arsenal manager was quoted as saying this long before Jenkinson was even being considered.
“I believe Jenkinson will have an impact here(In England) and you will fight for him not to play for Finland.”

I think Arsene Wenger once said he wanted the majority of the England team to be made up of Arsenal players. At this rate, much of the future of the England football side is going to be led to success by Arsenal players. We could have 2 of the back 4 in Jenkinson and Gibbs, while Oxlade, Walcott and Wilshere is a beastly attacking midfield trio. That’s almost half the entire first 11, and I here Benik Afobe’s development is also coming along nicely.

jenkinson is (now) pretty mature for his age too. check out his post match interview with mancity. didn’t seem like a 20-year old.
all the fears that we had before the season began have been proven to be paranoid by the genius of wenger. to list a few,
1. loss of van persie = lack of goals (to the extent of adding up giroud’s and podolski’s last season goal tallies)
2. ramsey = poor (21 year old gem. i could hear nonsense like “sell him to fulham” or “loan him” n stuff)
3. diaby = injury (enough said)
4. defense = poor (“please mr. wenger… buy sakho, mbiwa etc.. etc..”)
that is just to cite a few. more followed with issues with right back, left back… and so on….
and now the season has begun… pretty positively for us. guess what we should do now is
STICK TO OUR GUNS…
i hope i don’t eat my words and this run continues forever… the feeling of not being written off feels good…

Its about time gibbs got called up aswell isn’t it. I don’t mind that cole and baines are in front of him cos they should be, but bertrand? hes no where near as experienced or as good as gibbs

I liked the guy the first day he played for us. Even after the own goal that made him lower his head during a preseason match, I still liked his style of play. I was sorry for him because he is a true gooner and was very excited after Wenger signed him. He has rewarded me for believing he would become a star for Arsenal. And he has a lot of room to improve. Come on Carl! Come on Jenk! Keep up RB!!

I’m glad in reading all those positive quotes as i just could’nt understand it when fans where booing and hating on Wenger, then during the summer i mentioned on here that i was confident with our right back situation as i thought Jenkinson was a capable deputy for Sagna, i was a minority in thinking this and some fan seemed to take offense with it and said to me that when i am to be proved wrong and he is to be proved right he said that he hoped to see me on here saying how wrong i was and how right he was in doubting Jenkinson, well i hoped to read him on hear but not to say how right or wrong i was but instead to mention how he should never have doubted Wenger’s ability and judgement expecially giving Wenger’s record.
Arsene knows and in Wenger we trust.

@Somtee: We are a big club mate, definition of big club does not necessarily mean spend stupid amounts of money! We are a class team and a mainstay in the champions league with a sound structure and a wizard for a manager, that’s what classifies a big club… just wish the so called nay saying supporters could see it!

What is great is that as well as the excellent foreign players in the team we now have some fantastic English players. We need players who really understand what it means to beat spurs and how important it is to the fans. We need layers that have a ryeal passion for the fa cup etc. I think you get that with the home grown players. I think we now have the perfect blend of foreign and English players. That is part of the reason man u have always one things and its why this will be the best team we have had for a long time.
