How Arsenal can beat Chelsea by AH
This Saturday Arsenal welcomes Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are unbeaten so far this season, whilst the European Champions are also impressing during their games, as Chelsea lead the Premier League table.
Arsenal VS Chelsea is usually a thrilling encounter with end to end action. Last season’s game at the Emirates ended 0-0 in a rather disappointing match but both teams played defensive and overall I think both teams were happy with the draw. However all Arsenal fans will remember how the game at Stamford Bridge went last season. The game was tight and it came right down to the wire, with the game ending 5-3 to Arsenal. Arsenal will be hoping to go out and play the same style of football, but this time without conceding the goals.
So how can Arsenal beat Chelsea this weekend. Both sides have strengthened in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea adding Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin to their first team, whilst Arsenal have added the additions of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. Both sides will look to use their summer signings to the match, in which will be Chelsea’s biggest test of the season so far.
Arsenal will have to be strong in defence, against a tricky front three of Hazard, Torres and Mata. If Arsenal can hold these players back like we have done to other teams in recent weeks, whilst also dominating the midfield battle, then we can quickly tire the Chelsea team out, with many of them playing in their 6-0 win over Wolves in the Capital One Cup in midweek.
I expect Arsenal to line up as follows;
Mannone
Jenkinson Koscielny Vermaelen Gibbs
Arteta Diaby
Cazorla
Gervinho Giroud Podolski
Mertesacker will be the most likely to be included instead of either Koscielny or the returning Vermaelen. He has been magnificent so far this season and it’s not easy to drop him from the team, but I feel that we need two fast centre backs that can deal with a fast and tricky front three of Hazard, Torres and Mata. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mertesacker in the team and I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Theo Walcott, despite playing the full 90 minutes vs Coventry. Walcott always has a good game vs Chelsea and I would expect Wenger to continue that run.
My prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
Then theo come on to replace giroud as a CF.

Still think pace is the best attack against Chelsea’s defence I’d go for that same team but with Theo or Gervinho up top and Ramsey or the Ox on the right.. IMO Giroud’s attributes which are his strength and arial ability play into Chelsea’s defenders hands (Ivanovic , Cahill, Luiz) however raw pace? I know it seems like the flavour of the month shouting Theo for CF and I understand he must be patient but I really feel that with Cazorla’s through balls Theo up front could be absolute CARNAGE! But whoever plays, whoever scores, I’m not bothered as long as we get the 3 points. ARSENAL!

@Hafiz would you rather see Hazard going one on one with Mertesacker in the penalty area or Koscielny? Good managers modify the team and tactically adapt to the opposition. Wenger I believe is a great manager.

I think we will need Theo’s pace in this game. So for me he should hug the right flank atleast in first half because that side of the pitch will be busy with Cole, Hazard (who likes popping from the left)& co . Arteta, Cazorla and Diaby should win the central midfield battle.If the game goes to half time at 0-0 or better, we will have a good chance of winning it coz I beleive Chelshit will tend to drop deeper and try to catch us on the counter increasing our chances on goal more like what City were doing on the 2nd half. All in all, Chelshit better park that the bus for their own good, they know all too well what happens when they try to play football against us.

This will be a battle of the midfielders. I don’t think Chelsea will play a high offside trap. It’ll be too dangerous. I expect them to drop back more, hoping to catch us on the counter attack. So this would mean Arsenal would play their tyical possession football in Chelsea’s half and expect Jenkinson and Gibbs to push deeper up field, but our CBs and Arteta to stay behind.
Chelsea have looked vulnerable even though they’re on top. I don’t think they have the same defensive discipline as Arsenal, but Cahill and Ivanovic have been in good form. I expect our sharp movement of the football to create more chances than Chelsea, but we MUST finish them off!
Cazorla will be a marked man so I can picture Chelsea double-teaming and focusing their attention on the Spaniard to break the flow in our game. The key is quick passing and moving Chelsea’s defence around.
Although I’m not a fan of Walcott, I’d like to see him come on after 60mins just to run the living lights out of Cashley Cole and cross to our man Giroud! Walcott could even start over Gervinho, either way we have tonnes of pace to trouble Chelsea.
I’m predicting 3-1 Arsenal.

I think Diaby will be the telling player in this game. Let him boss Lampard and Mikel in the middle and I expect Arsenal to win. We also need to double up on the flanks, covering wingers but also overlapping full backs.
I don’t see Ramires, Hazard or Mata tracking back so there will be space on the wings.
I’d prefer Giroud for this one to get in amongst their cb’s rather than Gerv or Walcott up front.

Why do some people say Mertesacker is slow.He reads the game superbly and his positioning is immense. Have you ever seen him beaten one on one? His timing of a tackle is great. He has been awesome this season.

I’m tired of seeing or listening to “MERTESACKER IS SLOW”, it’s really annoying. This guy handled Suarez well enough, is Suarez a slow player. He stopped Aguero from wrecking havoc to our team, is Aguero slow? Per is simply doing a fantastic job and I’v not noticed any flaw in his defending although they keep saying he is slow. SLOW ? Meaningless. He does a wonderful job always and reads the game better than any of our Back-4

Per should be in the team. His lack of pace has not evidenced in any match and you have to respect 91caps for Germany! he can be up against ANY striker, slow or fast. If anyone was keen in the City game, City struggled to get to our defence because our midfielders stopped them before they got there. This is what we need tomorrow. Keep Hazard silent and keep a clean sheet by half time. Gerv should start on the wing and his speed should limit Cole from going forward. Theo should come on in the 60th minute and play false 9 and with Cole tiring, he will be forced into errors and two quick goals should win the game. Carzola/Giroud and Theo could score. If luck will be on our side, Petr should taste Podolski too. Di Matteo is good in defending but not excellent in attacks. Any team that tries to get them on a break does well as Atletico did. We however need our finishing to be near perfect as we need not to waste any chances. I remember when Di Matteo was in West Brom and beat us at home, 3-2. He can not be underestimated but I believe Sat will be one of the days he will dread his managerial career at The Blues.
Emirates should be a fortress from now onwards

On the subject of Chelsea I would just like to say to John Terry you are the victim of our politically correct society that appears to work only one way and you have my sympathy. I`ve lived in Oz for over 45 years and I`ve lost count of the times I`ve been referred to as a “bloody pom” or a “Pommy bastard” or told “Poms don`t wash”, I`ve even been tossed a bar of soap on the golf course and the sprinklers turned on me. Mertesacker handled Augero , Teves, Luis Suárez very well, i i dont think he will have a problem handling Hazard, torres or mata. i would love to see BOSScielny as well. but i think the German might do better in the box handling Hazard diving. it is really tough to choose but i LOVE IT

We will score goals but so will Chelsea. I have a feeling it will come down to “who defends better”.
However, if it comes to “who scores more” Arsenal might have a problem scoring. We did score 6 past Southampton and Coventry City but against better sides, we have struggled to score,although we have created opportunities.
I am an Arsenal fan and my big brother is a Chelsea fan.Can’t wait for the match to begin.

I feel like a small child on Christmas Eve, waiting for the big day. We now have the right mixture of players, to go into this match with the confidence, that not only we can defeat Chelsea but they we can also out play them. There’s nothing to fear from this Chelsea team. They have great players still but they do not have the balance and talent that WE now have. It’ll be tight and quite possibly, not a comfortable watch for us Gooners but I predict a win, by the odd goal. Putting everything on hold, until tomorrow afternoon.

The amount of top quality players wev’e got at the moment is scary as well as having 2 world class players back (wilshere sagna) and another top class in Rosicky we surely can win something this year. on to Chelsea, they have lost all their power up front and have now adopted smaller more technical players. this is why i would choose merts and Vermaelen to boss them. they will have to much power for their forwards, its our turn now to bully chelsea. we should have giroud in for the exact same reason aswell as having powerhouses diaby and Poldi. I have reviewed almost all the comments of my fellow gunners and opinions are divided. But the reality is, we need all the 3 points in the match. So, in the words of others, Per Mert has to be excluded from the match. Anyway, all I know is he perform wonderfully in all the matches he was featured. But as for Theo, to me he really needed on that match simply because he can handle the Chelseas very well. We have to be committed on that match for us to be out of defeat or lost.

I would play Ox ahead of Gervinho. Half time, I would bring on Walcott to replace Giroud. If Ox ineffective, (which I doubt), then Gervinho can come on as a sub.

I think Walcott may get into the Starting 11. He plays well against chelsea and offers a threat that will keep ashley cole occupied. I would start gervinho over Giroud up front as well and keep KOS The BOSS over Per because of the Hazard and Mata’s trickery. Lets go Gunners.
