Ian Wright – Arsenal’s “dark days” may mean Wenger may just walk away
The war between Pro- and Anti-Wenger supporters seems to be getting more angry every day, especially as the Fabregas and Nasri sagas seem to be a never-ending thorn in our sides.
There are daily slanging matches on nearly every single Arsenal Blog on the web, and Ian Wright seems to think that if Arsene Wenger ends up with a weakened team after this transfer window, then he may simply decide that he has had enough of the pressure and “just walk away”
The Ex-Arsenal striker is a legend in some Gooners’ eyes, but he is not afraid to speak his mind, and Wrighty even admits that he has even had to close his Twitter account because of the abuse he has got from Pro-Wenger Arsenal supporters.
Wenger himself gets abuse from the other side, and Wright thinks the pressure may finally drive the Frenchman away from Arsenal if things don’t start going his way soon.
Wright said: “It looks like some dark days are ahead. I’m hearing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri could be gone within a week — and still only Gervinho, Carl Jenkinson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have arrived.
“Gael Clichy has left while Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Eboue are on their way, with no other replacements. I often get criticism from Arsenal fans these days and came off Twitter due to the amount of stick.
“But I was only being honest and I’ve only ever wanted what’s best for the club.
“Yet it seems Wenger’s revolution has ground to a halt. Now, I fear he may end up walking away.”
Who really believes that Wenger would really resign from Arsenal?

I have faith in Wrightys opinions, although less after he sent Shaun WP to Chelsea instead of us.
My opinion of Wenger will be decided by the end of August, to see if we get a good start in the BPL, still in the CL and whether we have held onto our top players and drafted in some more.
However for the records I think Nasri will be at Manc City, Cesc at Barca, we would have drafted in Hazard and Dann. We will have 1pt in the BPL and maybe scrape into the CL, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up in the Uefa Cup.
Getting worried

Wrighty legend of player but a rubbish pundit. nasri and eboue have already been replaced with better players. clichy bendtner and almunia are being replaced with players that have been gaining loan experience elsewhere whilst chamberlain is a vast improvement on emmanuel thomas. for me we are in a better place than last season but will need to bring in someone else when cesc leaves. also the defence still needs one more player.

Oh, please! If he wanted an easy job, he would have left for france ages ago! Wright is back on track with the same old nonsense. seems like being off the pitch is making him more and more hysterical, always having his say in the most ridiculous fashion…
Also, he upholds the sentiment that the only way Arsenal can improve is through major transfers. And that’s simply false. About a half of the drive upwards that Arsenal now get is through the youth program, which has already yielded Wilshere, Ramsey, Gibbs, Djourou, Traore, Szczesny, Diaby, Song, Vela and what have you, some of whom actually learned to play at Arsenal, and some who were brought in as teenagers and made to grow up. The program is still developing, and it is bound to bring more talent into the squad. By overlooking the potential of this kind of backup, we constantly unwittingly oppose the concept which now lies at the heart of our beloved club. That fans do this may not be of concern to anyone, as fans are often deluded and don’t know the first thing about professional football. But that Wright also overlooks this fact is simply a testament to his horridly limited abilities as a football expert.

Someone needs to explain to the twat that no matter how much he brings the gunners down he will never get his record back.

Wenger likes raising our hopes year in year out. We are tired to be breeding ground for other clubs. Wenger must start packing and leave Arsenal. When we lose, he says,” WE WERE STRONG THROUGH OUT THE MATCH BUT DID NOT CONVERT OUR CHANCES INTO GOALS”. We are tired of pretty football now. we want silverware and that can only be achieved through signing EXPERIENCE PLAYERS. Remember guys its not how we start BUT HOW WE FINISH! AMANDLA COMRADES!!!!!!!

Wrighty is an Arsenal legend and loves the club you only have to hear him speak to know that. I don’t think Wenger will walk though especially when all the pressure is of his own making, all he has to do to placate the fans is buy a decent centre back and a decent replacement for Nasri/Fabregas. That isn’t beyond the finances of the club so it’s up to him really. Personally I hope he sees sense and puts the teams interests ahead of his own ego but I wouldn’t count on it seeing as he’s failed to do so in the past.

Confidence is such a major issue in what Arsenal are producing on the pitch right now! And that is exactly what new, major signings will bring. There are quality players at the club, but by not winning anything for so long confidence quickly ebbs away when under any kind of pressure.
With some major quality signings of players already with reputation, that confidence would be increased in the whole team. I know wenger wants to bring in younger players and develop them himself, but sometimes you have to go backwards in order to move forward…
Open your eyes Arsene…!!!

Ian should shut up he sucks as a pundit that explains why he is never asks of his opinion but still trys to make himself heard anyway. Thumbs up to Martin Keown on the order hand brilliant analysis and judgement on ESPN. I don’t recollect Arsenal breaking the bank to sign Ian wright despite his success at the club neither did we break the bank for Henry that went on to break his goal record.
How much you spend on a player does not automatically means success (Ask Chelski 50m on Torres last season how many goals did he manage?).
Loosing Clinchy is not a mistake him and Nasri are partly the reason we lost Gallas. Clinchy’s mistake against Birmingham is a professional blunder. Park’s fluke goal in Man utd 1-0 win against Arsenal last season was down to him not making the tackle on time. Mancity’s blunder against utd in the community shield. Instead of helping out VC he was running away from the ball when the ball has not been cleared to safety. Atleast we won’t have to experience that this season.I lost count of his numerous mistake or he bust down the left in a goal scoring oppurtunity and runs out of idea what to do with the ball. Don’t get me wrong he is a good defender but he lacks concentration and composure required at the top. Did you see Gibbs in pre-season he knows how to use the ball well though he needs to improve on his defending but with more games and less injuries he will be better than most names quoted on this site. Up Gunners bring on the season.
I hope AW makes more quality signing to give us a chance of winning the league becase we currently lack dept to compete on all fonts…Love Arsenal hate the Arsenal critics…

The anti-AW brigade wants us to believe that AW is sitting on a sack of cash which he is somehow reluctant to use to bring quality players! He is competing with oil money and has limits to how much he can pay the players! In the circumstances we find ourselves in,financially, I think the manager has done exceptionally well, and as before , we will give the rich boys stiff competition this season. At least two new defenders, a quality striker and Mata or Hazad and we are home and dry!

@Tordoo you said the board are billionaires so why not direct your frustration at them instead of AW. There is nothing like AKB’s if AW ****sup i will be the first to call for his head but i still think the board are to blame not AW. Chelski AM decides when he wants to buy a player worth 50m not the manager. Real M spent 80M on CR is that the managers making or the board wants it. Arsenal Board believes in running the club within the financial fair play AW is not part of the board is he?. He just so happen he is good at making good with the misery budget and wage structure at Arsenal. No one is making excuses for wenger the board ain’t doing enough – simple.

Wenger is a good manager but his police about signings would not work anymore these days.let take a look back to 2003-2004 wen we are unbeating.we have the likes of Henri, wiltod, beckamp, reyes, these are strikers that even when you are a goal down you still have hope of a goal in the same match then we have jlunberg, parlour, vierapires(bench fabrigas, flamini…) lauren, ashley cole, keon, campbell…just to mention a few,at this time one is everly proud to be an ARSENAL fan,cos at the end of the season there is always a good story to tell.but it not so this days.wenger should go for quality players that the young players he’s bringing will learn from.we can hardly compete with any strong team in the world especially in the k.o stages.dont be surprise if we meet with Barca 5 times again in k.o stages we will always be loosing that the bitter truth cos we cannot be compare at all.

BS. I feel there is no need for replacements for Eboue and clichy. Ryo is wonderful and I was genuinely impressed with Gibbs. Gervinho is very good, another top-class transfer by Wenger for a low amount. I would however like to see Cahill, Samba or Mertesacker coming in. Otherwise I think Wilshere, Song and Ramsey/Rosicky could easily become one of the better midfields in the world. And btw if Fabregas and Nasri are soooooo unhappy, let them go, better to have a youngster like Chamberlain or Ryo than a fed-up diva like nasri or Cesc. Anyway thats how I feel, its up to Arsene, and I am confident that he will do well, like always…

Lay off Wenger! No one knows for sure why Arsenal has not bring in a CB, maybe it is because the players targeted are too scared to play for Arsenal, cos if anything happens they are the first to be blamed, or perhaps they are waiting to sell off Cesc / nasri to get the money they need, either way its all speculation!! You guys all seem to forget that Arsene cares more about Arsenal than most of you guys. He has stick up for the team countless of times although the team was the one who lets us down. Players nowadays are cowards, when the going gets tough they go to a team with more weapons. Who does not want to play with a group of superstars and get paid alot while doing it and if your team lose who are they going to point it too. And take a look at all the other managers, who would you want to be at Arsenal if Wenger goes. Capello? Hodgson? Hughes? Mancini? Adams? dare I say Erricsson? you guys must be joking

6 trophyless years, and you call it success. Top players want to leave and you still call it success. Paying ridiculous salaries to Denilson, Eboue, Almunia that now they can’t be disposed off. 1 week from CL qualification match and still no CB buying (Vermaalen is already crocked and new players need time to settle).
If this is success, I don’t know what failure really means. Wake up, please. Wrighty is right.

6 years people…six years without winning anything. We have thrown games away because of Wenger’s poor judgement. Some of the decisions he made during crucial games cost us dearly. It’s not like we didn’t have what it took, we were in front at one stage last season and the season before in the BPL. We were in the final of a few decent cups too…now who is to blame for us losing those crucial games and what can it be blamed on. Is it lack of commitment from the players, or is it poor decision making from Wenger? I think more the latter. His substitutions were HORRIBLE. For example he often would substitute players like Walcott and Nasri for players like Denilson and Bendter. Great logic there!!! Sure injuries I understand but half the time they were just taken off so Wenger could give the other players a chance. Again GREAT LOGIC!!! In my understanding you play your strongest team as much as possible, those players aren’t training and being paid the millions they are to play half a game. Wenger, I respect what you have done for the club in the past, but if nothing happens this season I’m afraid you need to find another club.

Ian Wright has been slagging our club off so much in these last 4 or 5 years and I do not like it. I used to cheer him on when standiong on the North Bank and in the clock end but he gets no cheers from me anymore. IMO he not very astute when it comes to footie tactics. Yes Wenger must buy a CB and others but we shouldn’t blame him for the Fabregas and Nasri transfer sagas; if its not the right price, then we have no right to sell these players.

all this squad needs is another cb with epl experience like cahill or samba and every other area of the squad is covered or shows good promise. Wenger wont be forgiven if it goes wrong nor should he be coz hes had all summer to find one and he and most fans know it was the only real sighning needed.
Players coming through can cover every other position even if both fab and nas leave but please wenger for the love of god and the mental health of your self and us fans just buy an established cb and you can make all this go away!
I think this cb issue is 99% of whats doing all us fans heads in, i just cant understand why he wont go to the board and say get me samba or cahill? what possible reason could he have for not doing this?

Don’t you guys see? Wenger is changing the style of play. He is buying faster offensive players. Most of the time we over passed the ball because we did not have any pace therefore we had no choice but to try to walk the ball into the net. With the new offensive player and a fit walcot we will have pace to burn. Our opponents will be too busy defending to expose our defensive frailties.

remember last year when everyone cried out for a goalkeeper that never came? Then we found out later that Wenger had actually put in a 20m bid for Reina…. Yes we do need defenders but if any of you think that Wenger is just gonna go down without fighting to get one? He’s already put in a bid for Jagielka and he’s tried to agree prices over Samba and Cahill… I have trust in the guy. He isn’t perfect as at times he just seems stubborn but I reckon he does a better job than any other manager could do for us.

If wenger spends then I guess we are fine for champions league again next year. But if he doesn’t replace fabregas or nasri properly we are FINISHED face the truth please I always have high predictions and what ifs for arsenal but not this year ,we will third fourth fifth or maybe sixth if tottenham spend. 2 centre backs, 1 playmaker , a winger who is old enough to do good for the team and a striker , FFS guys have you not realised that if van Persie gets injured as usual like he is now we won’t score, especially not with nasri gone too. Chamakh wasn’t given much chance but he still isn’t good enough for a striker role in a lone striker formation that we play (451). We will have a very good chance of winning trophies if we bought players in those
Positions.don’t hate guys, any intelligent fan who knows about football will agree, we won’t make all these signings though. 1 CB and a midfielder , or 2 centre backs

ian wright in my eyes is one of the few english men who played for arsenal with pride in your shirt, and the comments he has made i totally am in agreement with him, wenger has to go, any good manager should know his team, and know which players want to leave the managers job then is to get ready made placements ready, two teenagers and gervinio, i am sorry that does not sort out the defense does it? and where are these transfers coming in that garzidis and wenger keep saying? we are heading for relegation, we have such a weakened side, we are probaly worse off then sunderland, anybody who went to asia, the tournament and cologne and benfica, if you think we have world class players look again we played awful, gervinio all credit to him was the best player, kroenke andwenger have run this club down, they want success on the cheap anybody knows you have to spend to have success, if stories are to be true, nasri and fab will be gone soon, our midfield is then depleted, our strike force is non existent unless van the man is fit, defensively well that is well documented, and this saturday we play newcastle followed by some really hard games, we will go out of champions league we simply are not good enough wengers philosophy is just not working and it is about time he woke up and smelt the cheese, we will not be able to pull big signings to arsenal now, to me this is the final nail in arsenals coffin and i truly believ wenger will be sacked by christmas, either by fan pressure or because the team is not performing, it is interesting if anybody loves statistics last season when fab and nasri did not play we one 1 in 15, every time we got a lead we lost it newcastle, tottenham, etc etc need i say more, wenger said we conceeded goals on set pieces well new season watch the frienlies and tournament wait a MINUTE, same proplem they have not been addressed, and wenger tell us after your wonderful words last week a super player will be coming to arsenal WHERE? you’ve killed this club and unfourtunately it is not the players fault you picked them you put them on the pitch to everybody else they are not for the prem but you sing there praises as if they all play like messi!! another statistic we pay the highest prices in the world to watch arsenal, in real terms we should be watching barcelona then, what excuses will you make when we get beat by newcastle and udinesse, you are the man at the helm and your ship is sinking fast, you have destryoed arsenal with stupid purchases of kids nobody with experience to help them it is shocking and a disgrace and i am really considering asking for my money back on my season ticket this is a disgrace.

What a load of hysterical rubbish! And Ian Wright should know better too! The media is all over Fergie for spending £20 million on a young hopeful goalkeeper… we’ve already got one and he cost a lot less! Even though he’s lost Brown and O’Shea and Ferdinand’s on his last legs he’s spent £16 million on a young hopeful defender… err… we bought one of them too in Jenkinson (plus Vermaelen is like a new signing as he missed all last year). The old Scot’s bought an attacker who can play right across the front for £20 million… yeah.. you guessed it.. we got one too in Gervinho and he cost a lot less! Plus we’ve signed Chamberlain (don’t tell me you’d prefer Owen!) Now look at the real difference… midfield! Let’s assume for a minute Fabregas and Nasri are gone, everybody knows Man United have needed to bolster their midfield for about the last three years but apart from Hargreaves… nothing! So what’s happened this summer? Scholes has left along with Hargreaves and Fergie’s done.. nothing! Even if Sneijder comes to United for 200 grand a week he only averages 24 games a season due to injuries, hardly impressive! Arsenal have the best British central midfield pairing in the Premiership, Wilshire and Ramsey, they have Song and Diaby behind them, plus Miyaichi who’s a Nasri style player and who’s been stealing the show in pre-season, and with the £60 million to spend from sales Wenger can go out and buy a Juan Mata type player and a Parker or Barton to add some bite! Phew…. he WILL buy a central defender and a left back… probably Cahill and Enrique! So what’s the problem? Don’t get fooled by the Media Hysteria!! Don’t listen to Adrian Durham! They write off Arsenal every single year and they’re doing it again! There’s nothing to choose between any of the top teams this season and remember only a few months ago we beat Chelsea, Man United and Barcelona all at home!
I can’t wait!!!!!

Dear Ian,
You are spot on!. The problem with most people is that they rarely see reality. In some instances, they are carried away by sentiments and glories of the past. To be honest with our selves, lets ask ourselves some few but fundamental questions and give a credit where its deserved.
1.Did Wenger succeed in building a strong Arsenal?. YES
2.Did Wenger succeed in sustaining a strong Arsenal? NO
3.Is WEnger’s restrictive policies good for the future of
of the club?.NO
4.Why is Arsenal no longer an attractive destination for major stars?. Because of bad policies/decisions
5. Why is Arsenal finding it difficult to hold on its best players. Because of irrational decisions in players’ market
6. Is Arsenal doing the best off season assessment so as to strengthen its sqaurd?. No
7. Are decisions taken in the players’ market take into account the priority concerns of the fans/club?. NO, thats why Wenger is still interested in the teen policy despite its failure.
8. Is Wenger open to positive criticisms?. No
9. Is Wenger still predictible?. NO, you canot trust his word.
If we were to do a situational analysis, you would clearly see that unless changes takes place, Arsenal is heading into trouble. You may not beileve it now but you will in future.
