If Van Persie leaves Arsenal, where would he go?
Yesterday there were reports in Spain that Arsenal’s Flying Dutchman had a controversial interview with Marca. He apparently said: “I am grateful to hear about the interest of a club as important as Real Madrid.”
For the Gunners it is definitely disturbing that their captain, Van Persie is so openly talking about the opportunity to move to a ‘bigger’ club. Arsenal supporters will obviously understand the attraction of Real Madrid for any player but it’s still out of character for Van Persie to disturb the peace that has finally built up in the squad.
Luckily the prolific Holland international was quick to rubbish reports: “Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day”
It’s positive that the captain is quick to disperse reports that could make the team uneasy before a season-determining week on the horizon.
This report did get me thinking, where does RVP go if he decides to leave Arsenal? Some may say, ‘that’s obvious’, but is it?
A quick analysis of teams would tell you:
Barcelona: If RVP does decide to leave for them, does he compete with Messi for a starting place? Does he displace Arsenal former captain Fabregas as the CF who feeds Messi? I personally think there is too much going on at Barca for Van Persie to get a look in.
Real Madrid: They have 4 class strikers in: Ronaldo, Higuain, Benzema, Callejon. Why would they need another? The only rational reason I can see them buying Van Persie is if they do either an exchange deal with Arsenal or they outright just sell one of them.
Manchester City: Again, another team with a lot of strikers and no real reason to buy another. They have 3 strikers who compete for a place as well as a certain misbehaving Tevez who could make an unlikely comeback for them.
Anywhere else is a downgrade for RVP and he knows it. The likes of Milan and Inter are a step down from a club like Arsenal personally. They are shadow of their former selves and hence shouldn’t really command the ability to buy Arsenal’s talismanic striker. The only other contender is Bayern. But they also have a lot of strikers that they would like to keep.
If the Gunners can retain a Champions league place and even show the potential to push for both the cups we are still involved in, there is a real chance that Van Persie will stick to Arsenal and cement his status as an Arsenal legend.

I really believe Van Persie will stay at Arsenal. The only club that might be able to tempt him is Barcelona but if they do show any interest they better pay what he is worth!
If V.Persie is to be sold, Arsenal would have to buy a really good replacement and I mean REALLY good. Chamakh, Bendtner, and Park (who I think plays for us) are not good enough and at most will bag 5 goals each a season 10 if we’re lucky. lol
(though Park maybe shouldn’t be included cause we dunno what he can do in a Arsenal shirt)

He is staying! Apart from C. Ronaldo and Messi all the strikers mentioned above RVS is better than any of them for now, their goals speak for them talkless of current form.

A well-written post, and an interesting though. My only criticism is actually a praise of the writer….you are being too rational. I agree that in a world where clubs thought things out, RvP probably would not have any suitors that would make him better off than at Arsenal. However, rationality is not a word than belongs in football. We are talking about a sport where the vast majority of bigger clubs finish every season with massive losses, and are praised as being successful. I concur that neither Spanish team has much use for our number 10, but don’t be so sure about our English counterparts. Chelsea have lost Anelka, will be losing Drogba, and have certain Spanish striker who is a shade of his former self. Abramovich knows this, and he is definitely not one to hesitate when it comes to pulling out his cheque book. If AVB wants RvP, the Russian will pay whatever it takes and give Robin whatever he wants. Even more extreme are Man City and their sheik owner. That is a club that simply does not care about how many players it already has for a position. If there is one word to describe the Sky Blues, it is “covet.” They will try to snap up Van Persie just for the sake of it if he declares himself to be available.

Its clear we’re in need of one top quality striker to partner RVS, assuming there was no Henry in the team, i doubt chamack, park and co could’ve score this goal.

Depends on what he wants to do, make money for his retirement or play football. He could follow Henry to New York, lots of money little pressure, he could follow Fabregas to Barcelona, but he`s not a local like Fab. or he could risk it with Real Madrid.I hear they`re changing the tax rules so he may have missed the bus.
My guess is he`ll look at his birth certificate and decide to stay at Arsenal

If he goes to Real we could get Higuain in exchange, who though not as good as our captain is nevertheless a proven hitman himself.

I have been saying this for w while now….RvP genuinely seems to care about the younger players at Arsenal and I think he is excited about the possibilities of the future and leading and building a team that includes Szczezny, Sagna, Kos TV5, Santos, Song, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox and Theo. Throw in Coq, Frimpong Jenkinson and Gibbs and half a dozen other quality youngsters plus any that are coming in backed up by the likes of Arteta BFG. The best thing Arsene could do(and maybe already has for all I know) is have Robin and the misses round for a BBQ – even some wine perhaps and discuss a few options, a few transfer targets – you know…. “Robin who would you like to play along side?” etc.
Today I believe, in RvP, Arsenal has a captain who loves the club as much as Wenger does. Despite what Cesc has said about his love for AFC, he is no where near the passionate and effective leader Van Persie has become.

It is essential he stays and we get back up- Hazard, Podolski etc. Rumour now about Vertonghen, get him as well. These players are young enough to make Arsenal great again and RVP would love to be a part of that. Stay oh Captain our Captain.

RVP loves arsenal and arsene so much that firstly he wont leave and if he does he wont go to any club in england which can harm arsenal’s season then who’s left?? barca cant afford more players sitting and watching their game and madrid are just not good enough for what RVP wants to do play FOOTBALL!!!!unless wenger leaves for madrid

Let him decide, balll is on his court. We will miss him but am sure he can play in any team. A big question who knew Fabrigas will be in the first team at Barcelona? We expected him to be on bench a waiting for Xavi injury. RVP should continue with ambition, but he should first take care of the bird in hand.

Again The King Henry won another crucial game for us. Yesterday’s game:
Was a clear “stamp on” what all the lovers of arsenal know and have always said IT WAS A BIG BIG MISTAKE TO SELL THIERRY HENRY in the first place. I just dont wonna imagine what wld have been had he stayed.
This should be a lesson to Arsene and the board as they deal with the case of our Captain Van Persie the Man.
And Lastly Henry has proven to all doubters that he still got more than it takes to play at the highest level and I am just left to wonder….if some people and papers were successfully able to campaign for the return of Cesc to what he called home and his boyhood club.
What don’t we have and why can’t we campaign for the permanent return of our King and Legend to the club he loves and adores?
I mean has it not being clear enough what a change he brings into the team…not just the goals, think about the morale, the undying spirit of a winner, leadership.
And not to mention his true honest passion and adoration for this club we all truly love and support. That just kills it off. This is what we want to see everyday from every player playing for ARSENAL.
Gunners for Life.

I personally want RVP to retire as a legend at AFC after 7 or 8 more years.
Anyway when the writer mentioned the contenders for RVP’s sign, one really important contender was left out. Juventus is rebuilding itself into a new dynasty. They have the financial muscle and they lack a talisman for the next generation. RVP could become the Old Lady’s next talisman.

I think he’s holding Arsenal ransom. He wants a few major trophies before retiring and he knows the only way that’s going to happen is if Arsenal spend.
I think unless someone comes in with a 50m+ bid in the summer, he’ll sign the contract regardless of whether Arsenal strengthens or not.

about him only God know the best but it will be unjust for VP to end his playing time without medals.
If he eventually jet off to any club anywhere definetelly not for money but medals b’cos arsenal show no ambition for trophies but making profit and involve in champ league.

Anyone realise that, had we not sell our players, our team right now would be,
szezny
sagna toure vermaelen Clichy
———Song————–
—Wilshere—Fabregas—–
Walcott———–Nasri—-
——–Van persie———-
Sub
Adebayor
Hleb
Henry
Arshavin
Kochielny
Arteta
n yea, the first 11 is the team which has beaten Barcelona!
2nd leg was without fabregas n vanpersie off – so we could say we had one of the best team in the world , n some of the best players of the world comes from emirates/highbury (henry, fabregas, viera, van persie, wilshere)
n yea for those who did not realise, that’s the team

a new contract offer needs to be financed by ridding Alumni and Squilly of the books – thats 70 or 80 k/week extra on top of what he has already got. The squad as a whole would look improved without the two. And they could throw in a statue on top of it, cause RVP would become a legend if he stayed and won the title 2013…

Stil i think it would be barca. messi cn even play at the right or left flank. so as rvp. The league is less physical there. David villa seems wud go this summer. if he goes to real madrid. higuain is out from the first team n seems likely be a target for chelsea r go elsewhere. he wont go to rival manshity for sure. bt i sure btween madrid n barca. the temptation is more towards to barca. so i think there is hes destination.truth hurt.we shud jst acept it. let him win things since he is 29. dnt u guys feel sory he stays here til he is retire?? if we’re manu player like giggs n scholes doesnt bother to leave cus they hv many medals at manu. bt arsenal?profit club n no ambition?
why not swap rvp for messi?maybe messi want to try somethng new n dferent.n new challenge perhaps in premier league? or we cn get neymar? if barca get neymar. we gt messi. if they messi stil there with rvp. we bid for neymar around 1m. hahaha! lol

…. From player sales. I dont know where all the profit from Nasri, Cesc, Clichy etc went but it appears that Arsenal wont ever buy big again. Its good that they aim to be sustainable but the figures just dont add up. Robin is a Legend & nobody would blame him if he goes – he’s given his all for our club during times when the others let him down. Warmer weather, more money, less teams like stoke kicking you… Who wouldnt be tempted by a few years in spain at the end of his career? In the meantime I just hope everyone at the Emirates makes it loud & clear how much we love him.

RVP would just take David Villa’s spot on the left hand side of a front 3 – simples. Villa was already being marginalized by Barca before his broken leg and he was becoming disillusioned with life at the Nou Camp. It’s simply a change in personnel, like for like.

IMO Arsenal SHOULD sell RvP. My reasons being that he is in a very good goal scoring form, and therefore worth a lot of cash, but also he is getting old now and imo he doesn’t do enough for the team. Yes he scores a lot but that is because of the feed he is receiving from the players around him, i think another forward could do this plus create their own chances which RvP does not. I think that in the current over inflated transfer fees state arsenal could quite easily ask for
