Inter Milan keep track of Sagna at Arsenal

Posted on October 11, 2012 by Bob

The Italian Serie A side Inter Milan lost their main right back in the summer, and the Arsenal and France defender Bacary Sagna is high on their list of replacements.

31-year old Brazilian right back Maicon signed for Manchester City at the end of the summer transfer window after six years at the club. They have been alerted about the possibility of a swoop for Sagna after reports that he was unhappy with Arsenal transfer policy, specifically the sale of van Persie and Alex Song.

That has supposedly been sorted out, and Sagna cannot fail to be impressed with how well Arsenal have done without the two players this season. One problem may be the form of Carl Jenkinson. The young right back has had chance to settle in to the first team, and Sagna’s long lay off may mean he takes some time to get back to full fitness.

The Italian side will be watching developments carefully, aware that Sagna has less than two years to run on his current deal with the Gunners. The Frenchman is one of the players who has been talked about as a contract priority, as staff are determined not to have a repeat of the Nasri and van Persie situations.

Sagna is focused on getting himself back into action for Arsenal, but he will be aware of what is being said. I think that once he is playing and playing well again, everything will be sorted quickly.

this is a bit misleading because how do you know that sorting his contract is their priority when they haven’t even approached him. sagna said it himself that no one has come and talked to him about a new contract. i don’t get it, if sagna is an important member of the team then why don’t they just offer him a new contract right NOW rather than wait till january or summer, when he will have 1 year left on his contract and will start attracting interest. have we still not learnt our lesson. or is it that they are doing this on purpose because they are planning to sell him so that they can get the maximum interest and money from his sale.
I have a feeling that sagna and walcott will be sold this year, but i hope to god that i am wrong.

Serious gunner, 31 year old isnt even close, his 29 he loves the club his loyal and he sees tottenham as enemies, we must keep him until he retires its good to have players like him around

well….to be reaslitic…maximum 1 more season Sagna should be here….

if not Jenkinson himself would leave….

Jenkinson could easily join a mid or smaller club and play regular football…..

by sitting on the bench his chances of improving and playing for England would be in dampen…

sagna has to show commitment NOW. he already spat his dummy once, if he does it again, then he shud go. i rate the guy highly, and we need players of his quality at our club. but no1! is bigger or better than our club, if he dont like our policies then he shud go. in arsene i trust. shut up and signed sagna, or go. same as walcot

    hold on a minute….
the end of his current contract will take him to age 31

remember the AFC contract policy regarding players after 30 years of age…

i doubt that Sagna will want a 1 year rolling deal (like Pires etc)…so unless we suddenly change our current way of doing business…he could well be up the road at the end of the season (or even sooner)

players don’t remain as loyal & as understanding as did DB – a true ‘clubman’

Please sagna will not be a big miss if he wants to go let him, no player is loyal these days as soon as they see the money thier heads get turned. Jenkinson is going to be class its already showing under the right coach, remember koscielny and djourou can both play at r.b as cover.

  15. Al Bundy Weed says:

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger has asked his network of scouts to search for another new striker ahead of the January transfer window as Arsenal continue the process of replacing Robin van Persie.

Although encouraged at how the goals have been spread more evenly around the team this season, Wenger would ideally still like further back-up to Olivier Giroud as the main centre-forward in his 4-2-3-1 system.

Wenger has specifically told his scouts to be on the look-out for potential new attacking options over the coming months, with Fernando Llorente, Adrián López, Robert Lewandowski and Stevan Jovetic among those being monitored.

The interest in signing another striker reflects an understanding that Giroud cannot be expected to instantly adapt to the Premier League, although his development over the next three months will inform how Wenger approaches the January market.

Giroud scored his first Premier League goal in the 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday but there is a sense that he was signed as the long-term alternative to Van Persie, rather than as the Dutchman’s immediate replacement.

Arsenal’s proactive approach to January suggests that Wenger believes his squad is now close to challenging Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs. However, their established back-up to Giroud in the main striker’s role is limited.

Gervinho has performed encouragingly in Van Persie’s old position so far this season while Theo Walcott has publicly told Wenger that he now feels ready to be given a chance in that position. Lukas Podolski is another option but, like Gervinho and Walcott, is considered most effective in wide positions.

    @Al Bundy Weed

You sound kinda familiar … Are you @paul in disguise?
One thing I know about Wenger – unless he’s already signed the player, he’ll keep his cards very close to his chest. There is no way that whoever he is scouting would be known to anyone but a select few. No one knew about Podolski until the deal was done. Giroud was also kept quite till we all found out about it (due to you know who wanting more cash and heading up north). And who saw Cazorla coming??!! If we are in the market for another striker, it will all happen either very quietly, or very quickly. Or both. I really doubt we will get Llorente, Lewendowski, or anyone else the media associate with us. Transfer window is months away, let’s just see how our current squad progresses before then. I bet Giroud will score a few more goals over the next couple of months …. Hopefully many more. :-)

  18. S.H says:

Sagna is a top RB, in fact of the best and most underrated in the world. I don’t want to lose him, but at 29 he is getting old and maybe there has been pressure on him to leave. We don’t know for sure. One thing we do know is we have some aging players – Arshavin, Rosicky, Squillaci and Sagna.

Losing Baci would weaken the squad but it’s just a matter of time within the next 2 years, so there is no point in prolonging the inevitable outcome. One thing I’d like to see though, is perhaps keep him until Yennaris is experienced enough to play as a regular when Jenkinson is out. This probably won’t happen as Arsenal will find the highest bidder and sell him as soon as they do.

I have a feeling Djourou might be the 3rd option at RB and maybe this is why Wenger has kept him. If this is the case, his quality doesn’t cut it anywhere in the back 4 and we need to find a replacement for Squillaci. I really don’t think Djourou has enough pace or skills to be a fullback. The guy has trouble passing backwards let alone forwards!

    @ S.H

Yennaris is not a Right back…

say if he is and keeping Yennaris till hes experience???

how would he able to get games when theres Sagna and Jenkinson???

Jenkinson may struggle to get game time when Sagna return and considering he only play only 6 league games this season….

not to mention only a handful last season……

Would Jenkinson able to improve by warming the bench??

Yennaris isn’t a right back? Are you kidding? I mentioned that Yennaris is a good replacement for Jenkinson if he were injured. Obviously there’s no room for 3 of them. We have to look at the future no just today. Sagna is 29 so it is very important that Yennaris gets more time to develop before Sagna leaves. I don’t see Wenger buying another RB do you?

And if you don’t think Yennaris plays RB, what position do you think he plays for the first team when given the opportunity?

    @Rahmann

Does he play RB for the Arsenal first team when called upon? Yes. Will he ever play CAM for the first team? NO. Go figure! It’s like saying Henry is a winger, but he plays CF. So what position should Yennaris be looking at if trying to penetrate the first team?……..exactly RB. Where does Wenger want Yennaris? Right back. What position does he only play for the first team? Right back.

Are we talking about the first team or the reserves? This article I believe is about our first team, so it’s still RB for Yennaris!

I really hope we dont lose “Sagna”, as i truly believe!! he is at least on a par with the “world’s best”, who is so strong, and decisive in the tackle, links forward play up so well, in giving defences a real problem, Sagna is an awesome athlete, who has been severely underrated throughout Europe…
