Is Andrei Arshavin Returning To Russia?
Andrei Arshavin is being targetted by Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala according to reports today. The Russian side are owned by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov and he is preparing a £15million bid for Arshavin once the transfer window re-opens in January.
Anzhi are currently fifth in the Russian Premier League and are just four points off a Champions League qualifying spot. Kerimov is desperate to see his side in Europe, after only being formed 20 years ago.
He has already added Samuel Eto’o, Yuri Zhirkov and Roberto Carlos to his squad and he sees the addition of Arshavin, who is captain of the Russian national team, as an important piece of the jigsaw.
Arsenal fans will have mixed feelings about the rumours today, but some will be over the moon. If they are true £15million for a player that has recently turned 30, that looks disinterested some of the time, not to mention seriously lacking in form should not be sniffed at in my opinion. It is money that can be used to strengthen other areas of the squad, we will just have to wait and see what happens once the transfer window re-opens.

Only Hazard can replace him. Sell him if you are going to buy Hazard or keep him

I’d be happy to see Arshavin go. Constancy is not his forte. And it seems he only performs when we are already doing well in a game, not when we are struggling, and need someone to step up – eg. He was utterly useless against Man U. For a player who would be considered a more ‘mature’ (if you could even say that about this him) player in our squad, we saw more effort and fight from our young newbies. Let’s get £15 million for this guy (if not more – these Russians are willing to pay £100 mil for Eto!), and keep re-investing in a fresh, new team.

Sold!!!! Take the money and laugh your way to the bank Arsene! Arshavin despite having a decent number of assists is the most frustrating player to watch. How someone with his obvious skill can’t pass the ball consistently and give his all 100% of the time us beyond me. Send him back to Russia, buy Hazard and all us right with the world.

Take the £15m for him and run, a player that could have been great for us if he had put in the effort.
As it turns out he has been a bad signing and his bad attidue in helping the team defend and leaving the LB exposed every time we dont ahve the ball only rubs off others.
Really hope this happens

If true, it’s a no brainer. We have too many players lined up on the wish list not to let go the Russian for such price.

The Russian season ends in November, so signing Arshavin in Janurary won’t make a difference to their push for a Champions league place.

Well kudos to him for his past exploits. But for now, when he seems to make a good move,he ends up confused in d leg of a defender.£17m is a good market,Sell him, even if it is £5m age is against him

He might have shown great quality but the bottom line is that he has been far from impressive recently. And for 15 mil just sell him(i wont value him for more than 7 mil based on current form)

15 million? Arsene will do it for sure. Besides his poor performance on the pitch, Arshavin’s negative comments are demoralizing our young squad! Good luck andrey

Imagine buying hazzard and playing him out of position? If he doesn’t perform as he used to at lille, you’d start calling for another player. Ask yourself why nasri suddenly lost his form? You think because he is not that good? What about bendtner who always shines on national duties but not for arsenal? His coach once told wenger how to get the best out of him. If you knew arshavin when he was at zenit, you’d be asking wenger what he’s done to this guy. Don’t just come here to suggest who to sell and buy. Think and get your fact well before presentin it.

thank you my guy. arsh became lazy the season after he was used as a lone striker. he is to a quality player if the coach can get the best out of him. the 1st leg against barca last season readily comes to mind. he was our most enterprising player against man u. go and watch it again.

Vickie -didn’t realise a manager should do everything for the player. I thought it is the other way around … a player plays where he is asked to. Look at what Arteta is saying “I’ll play wherever I am asked”. These players are meant to be professional. Look at Walcott – best fit for that boy is as a striker, but he is playing on the wing …. and doing it well. Furthermore, I think AW is a good manager. If he is choosing to play players in certain positions, that’s his call. As we all know – at this point in time (and for some time now), our team has to cover for all the injuries (& red cards … yes, that’s a problem), so player will inevitably play out of position. that’s the way things go. Good players are able to cover, and play well, even when they aren’t in their sweet spot. So I don’t agree about Arshavin, or Bendtner for that matter. Both only seem to do well if all the planets are aligned, and they get out on the right side of the bed. We need players of better character and consistency.

Its sad to see my fav club going backwards. Well Arshavin in or out won’t make any diff. Arsenal coach doesnt know how to get the best out out of the team. No matter how good Fab was Arsenal wasted last 2 or 3 years just to hold back him and he actually just had one good season in last 3 yrs for Arsenal. Also Arsene change his 4-4-2 formation to 4-3-3 just for fab and to be honest it doesn’t work for most players in team and defence is left exposed which was always weak but Arsene wasnt ready to get good defenders. Anyways its a sad situation. BTW not even once Arshavin played behing the striker for almost 3 yrs. Thats where he played most of his life before coming to Arsenal.

Even if we sell him of 50pence then thats great business. AA is a full bag of S 1 T…..or should I say he ha become S 1 T.

May as well sell him. No point in playing him wide left (where he hasn’t a clue) instead of ‘in the hole’ where he was brilliant in Russia.
Wenger does not seem to have worked that out. He still thinks his one only formation is all we need and if players are technically good (which they are) they can play anywhere.
Consider all those played out of position who have suffered. [Reyes, Arshavin, Bendtner, Wiltord, Vela, Djourou, Eboue ... Walcott ? RVP ??]
