Is Diaby the key to Arsenal’s success this season?

Is Diaby the key to future success? by CI

During my life as an Arsenal and football fan i have witnessed many remarkable moments of Arsenals history including the invincible era. But ironically my first real game i watched on TV was our last major trophy. In this game (fa cup final of 2005)i saw a winning team, but where did it all go wrong? Or has it? Despite going without a major trophy for nearly 8 years, we have always been around, Whether that has been in a Champions league final or coming 3rd in the league.

Despite being nearly men there this season we have seen a large flaw in our play this season, our lack of a true defensive midfielder. It was apparent that with Diaby our play was so much more fluid that its been in the last few seasons, I rate Diaby very highly and would say on his day can be as good as Yaya Toure, This can be seen in the Liverpool game, he held the ball tremendously well, allowing the likes of cazorla to be involved. And ultimately as is typical Diaby he becomes injured ( I know he cant help it but we can all say we are fed up with it), but now it seems wenger has found out what his problem is, and to cut a long story short he wont be able to play every single game. You see this has ultimately some real positives for us. You probably will all wonder what I am talking about, but with Wenger not being able to choose Diaby every game we can tap into what is our wealth of unfound talent. This rotation can be with the likes of Frimpong or le coq, Allowing these players to flourish with the added game time.

With the rotation as well we can put Diaby into the more “Key” games therefore not having to put these flourishing players into a baptism of fire. Aswell, allowing these players to have added game time would allow us to combat a long standing problem with our club, it would allow us to find a suitable replacement for Diaby if either his injury becomes too bad like that of Ledley Kings or whether he leaves if he becomes too good. However people may not buy him because of his new problem of not being able to play every single game without being out for months.

However the problem what we have now is that our one other real combative player (Frimpong) is out on loan therefore this has already created a problem, problem being Arteta is being used as a defensive midfielder, this started off well as we paired both him and Diaby together allowing arteta’s attacking exploits to be used, whilst Diaby can defend, also with Diabys strength his attacking exploits can also be used, but now he is out and wilshere is alongside arteta we are lacking strength and defensive abilities. And we are essentially having 3 attack minded midfielders which is all well and good if we can defend, which we cant. However what this does mean is our attack is becoming more stronger, for example this can be seen in the recent 7-3 win over Newcastle.

Therefore Diaby is not just a influence in midfield but in defence, is it just a coincidence that since his injury we’ve conceded so many more goals than before when he was free of injury. And to be honest at the start of the season with diaby in the team we look unstoppable, and since then we’ve just looked plainly average. So lets hope this problem isn’t too bad

Good player but cant rely on him anymore too injury prone! And when he is fit wenger and france over play him! I think Wenger is developing some type of dementia.

He is more of a box to box midfielder than a DM..but yea,he definitely adds steel to our flairy midfield…A fit Diaby is better than Toure imo….I really hope he does a RvP(in terms of injuries)and start to boss the midfield again!

I’m a fan of him. He is good with the ball. If you’re talking about being the key player for arsenal success. I don’t know. His injury is aggravating. When you talking about “key to arsenal’s success”, that player must be very consistent in his game, match fit, contribute a lot in the team. If you ask me, who. I say jack or cazorla.

JACK CAZORLA ARTETA, Thy are in midfield, But still our midfield is not Perfect! Diaby was here Team was title contender!

Jack Diaby CAzorla, now this will b perfect midfield!

Now just see the Fact, When Diaby was in team, CAZORLA was totaly free n was always in heart of opposition defence, Bcox Diaby drives the ball toward him, Nw Mr. ARTETA cant drive ball he see opposition player n play back pass n our Midfield become slow. CAZORLA have to come To midfield n than to take ball forward so is wid JACK!

M telling U Diaby will come in next game, n v all vl see impact!

  15. Frencher says:

Diaby is great on the ball and keeps the attack moving through the midfield especially on the counter. He’s a strong tackler and his height changed our set play defense and attack. It’s a shame he’s got that muscle condition. I believe in Le coq in the future but if we’re talking success this season, we must bring in a quality DM to use with abou in a platoon role.

It’s always the case that when someone is missing then we tend to over estimate them and think that if they were playing then we wouldn’t be dropping points or playing badly.
Most people on this forum seem to think if Diaby and Rosicky were playing we would be winning the league.
When Jack was out long term we were playing crap because we missed him etc.
My own opinion is that even if Diaby had been playing it is unlikely that our league position would be much different.
The problems run deeper than 1 player. Diaby had his good games but he was as capable as any of them of having his bad games.
We do sometimes miss Diaby but we also miss RVP, Cesc, Nasri and Song.
At the end of the day we need to be realistic and admit he’s too fragile and we cannot hinge our season on him. We need to bring in his replacement asap.

He is a good footballer but he isn’t the finished article. He stills dwells on the ball too much and is sometimes prone to making rash decisions. We can’t wait for him anymore. Even though he’s now fit, Wenger should buy another box-to-box midfielder.

I personally believed that AW is a racist if Diaby can still be part of the team for now with lots of injury break and lack of irrational decisions sometime,he still remain in Arsenal squad what about Song that fits most all time and his assist last season was 15 sold by AW just because he thought Diaby is back fully. The lack what we called DM for and Arteta cannot do it too fragile and most time indecisive with ball, too choking on the field. If Song is from France what would have happen to him, believe there is something between AW and Diaby..Again if Walcot want to sign let him he should not hold the team into ransom.

Diaby is a good player (when fit) but how many times in the last 5 years has he played half a dozen games in a row? I can’t think of any!

Therefore, I think we need to sign a DM to cover this fact. If we have two fit DMs then all good. We can rotate or use both etc… At the moment we have no fit DMs and therefore playing Arteta in a deeper role. Which isn’t suited to him.

  43. GreenGooner says:

Just as a side issue. Here is my REALISTIC signings team sheet that could really help us challenge for the rest of the season.

    GK: Szczesny
    RB: Sagna
    LB: Gibbs
    CB: Vermaelen
    CB: Yanga-Mbiwa (£4-£5m)
    DM: Diame (£3.5m)
    CM: Arteta
    CM: Wilshere
    AM: Cazorla
    AM: Podolski
ST: Walcott (Signing a new contract)

Subs: Butland (£6m) Jenks, Kos, Per, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby (when fit) and a striker.

Now we’ve been linked to several strikers but realistically we WONT sign Villa or even Lopez. It’ll be someone we don’t necessarily know. My point is these three signings are less than £20m. Get Villa and loan and we’d be laughing!!

Diaby on his day is as good as Toure, but in looking for explanations i think your overestimating Diaby somewhat. Diaby has that same flaw that Djourou and so many others have, in that at crucial moments and in the most dangerous of areas he just switches off and does something stupid, then a goal against usually the end result.

As for le coq and Frimpong, i think i must be one of the very few who believes that either of these two will never be Arsenal first team players, or should never be. I really believe at best they could be very useful squad players, think about it, Vieira Petit Gilberto Song even Diaby whos not a natural holding player, they dont come close to any of them and would be more like a Grimandi who were a fine squad player. If we want to rival the worlds best teams then we should hope that these two dont get anywhere near the first team for any lengthy amount of time.

Diaby is only as good as yaya toure on a yaya bad day. he is the key to this season as wenger needs to unlock him from the squad and replace him with a fit player as soon as possible. diaby is worse than a benefit cheat he takes millions of pounds from supporters pockets in claiming he is a footballer when in truth he is just a shirker. my sickness record is far better than diabys yet i have been given the boot by my last 5 employers as i was too ill to continue in the job. Abou diaby is world class , it’s so disappointing that his injury situation is the way it is , but even I , his biggest fan has gave up , it’s time to face facts , he’s too injury prone , maybe if we signed a replacement he wouldn’t b rushed back every time and it might actually do diaby some good ? ……. But whether we use him sparingly or get rid all together the important thing is to get another defensive mid in !

I can’t see wenger playing frimpong or coquelin over arteta permanently , if he was going to surely he wud of done it by now ? ….. Instead he prefers to play with 3 forward thinking midfielders and asking arteta ( lol ) to play the defensive tole ??? And then wonders y we are so susceptible to counter attacks !

Every fan I speak to can see our problem , so how come a manager who put a side like invincibles together can’t ???
