Is Nigerian Whiz Kid Lined Up For Arsenal Move?

Posted on October 14, 2011 by admin

Yet another teenager being lined up for a move to Arsenal, but this one is slightly different because he has already an experienced international as he has won 10 full international caps at the tender age of just 19.

Ahmed Musa plays for VVV-Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he has already played over 30 games and scored ten goals, and Arsenal are just one of a host of clubs that have been keeping a close eye on this Nigerian whiz kid, and yes you’ve guessed it Barcelona are also tracking him too.

VVV-Venlo have not had the best of starts to this season, and have yet to win, but Musa played a key role last season in keeping them in the top flight.

Musa may only be celebrating his 19th birthday today, but he has already been capped 10 times by Nigeria so despite his young age he has plenty of experience compared to the other youngsters we have been linked with in recent weeks. He can play on either flank, or through the middle and according to reports has pace an abundance of pace, though he can be rather inconsistent.

That sounds familiar doesn’t it. Remind you of anyone? Theo Walcott by any chance. Seriously though do you think this kid is a better option than some of the names that have been mentioned in recent weeks like Andy Polo and Ousmane Drame to name but two? Has anyone seen Musa in action, if so tell us what you know about him.

  1. Rob says:

See him in action every week. Good player for the top-teams in Holland. My opinion is that this is not the player that Arsenal needs at this moment, although he’s a very talented player. German side Schalke 04 are willing to pay 7 million pounds for him. His current club VVV-Venlo rated him at 8/9 million pds.

Another interesting story about this player is that Dutch specialists don’t believe that 19 is his real age… I can’t prove this, but he wouldn’t be te first African player who lied ( or simply don’t know) his real age.

  3. Arhmed musa is just like theo walcott in pace and misses, he’s a very good player but need technical trainings in passing, cos it seem to me that he doesnt know how to pass the ball at will but he will be a great addition to Arsenal squad cos he has under cover talent that needs to be explored. Am a Nigerian who have seen him play for our team very well. He’s good, very very good.

  4. Tijjani says:

Musa is very very good and he is not inconsistent as said. He plays just like Austine J.J. Okocha. Very talented guy. In the last game we played, he came as substitute and assisted for the second goal. He is very good. He was even the best player in the last two junior world cup played. I think if we can get him, i assure u the club woulg quickly forget the likes of Cech and Samir.

Ahmed Musa…what an exciting player..@ Rob dont tink u have had the luxury of watching him up close…really talented and special fastpaced and good footwork…just lacking in cross or pullout…definately will be a good buy for arsenal…personally for me a better player than walcott…as for his age cant stick my head out but am sure he cant be more than 23 yrs so he still has a lot of years in him..

  8. Ik says:

I have seen him play and he is a fantastic player. The question is do we really need another winger, i think we have got enough wingers. Except if we are buying him for his determination, cause he does have a never say die attitude.

  9. Femi says:

Good one Rob. I’m a proud Nigerian and an ardent supporter of Arsenal. Ahmed Musa is a very good player who can really turn things around when spirits are low. If we need to go for him, let it not be because he claims to be 19 years. We don’t need a player who will be unproductive at the age of 22 years and not even have good market value because the age might have been incorrect ab initio.

  11. Richmike says:

He is a good player, whenever he plays for Nigeria he sparks to life in the 2nd half, that seems like a player we don’t have in arsenal, but will he be an instant hit at arsenal like suarez? That I can’t say.he’ll come in cheap too and nigerians don’t get injury problems so he’ll be a decent signing

musa is an exciting player,he is far better than gervinho, walcoth and even the ox,he is what arsenal needs right now,i watched him at the under-20′s,as for his age he cant be more than 20yrs anyway that should not be a problem coz even essien faked his age

  17. SUNNYK says:

I’m surprised if you haven’t seen this young man play b4. He was obviously one of the candidates for player of the tournament in the last u20 if Nigeria had gotten to the finals. In Ahmed Musa, arsenal will be getting a player that is better than Walcott, Chamberlain, Gervinho and the rest. I read someone say he will be 28-30, that’s crap. 23 perhaps but not more. An exciting young player that in a club like arsenal will develop to become a true gunners legend. Will indeed be a great acquisition for the club. I was actually wondering how arsenal didn’t go for him after the u20 because Nigeria played against France with 2 arsenal players on parade and Musa played terrific yet it wasn’t one of his best performances of that tournament.

  20. Thorough says:

I’m a Nigerian, havent lived outside Nigeria for long and I know Ahmed Musa really well. For those that are not aware he came to the limelight by breaking Ishaya Jatau’s 14year record of the highest goal scorer in the Nigerian league, and he is merely a winger. He is very direct, exactly like Gervinho, but his finishing is much better. He is fast, intelligent, shoots with both feet and looking at his finishing can be adapted more centrally. There is absolutely no immaturity in his game and that may call into question his age but he is quality and age isn’t a factor when the talent is undoubted. I can stick up for this. He is an amazing talent and not one of the many kids that we have that we will need a few years before they make an impact. Energy as it has never been seen before, I say bring him on. Plus, Nigeria is not going to the Nation’s cup and we wont miss him in January. Even for 10mils I will take him. He will justify every dime.

  21. sam says:

he’s not better than walcott and arsenal already have 3 wingers better than ahmed musa(gervinho, miyaichi and chamberlain).
still its good publicity for the boy, harry loves our transfer targets and ahmed musa might end up signing for tottenham.

  22. Olori ebi gunner ibiade says:

The age palaver can not be a problem as Musa is at most 21. He is talented no doubt and will be a good addition to Arsenal. Go for him AW. He can also effectively operate from the middle with his skills, styles and class act touches. We truly needs him.

  24. Yea,our own Ahmed Musa. He’s gud,he can play frm de wings & centre. But wat really endears me to him is his unbelievable work-rate & unselfishness! Much better dan, Osaze(for those fans who’r agitatn for Osaze),Walcott or Gervinho. He’s more like Nasri,bt wen finishd up in Arsenal will definitely go on to be better dan him!AND its no coincidence dat Barca is also chkn him out!He cant be more dan 22-24yrs!I say Wenger shld go for him since yday b4 he’s grabbed by anoda club!(GFL)

  25. Wenger, am a journalist with proven credential and ability to discover talents, I am not a scout but when I see a good footballer I can identify one. Ahmed the terrific Musa is 19 years old except his international passport says otherwise, he is a wing wizard with flair and directness and has a great knack for goals. He is no Theo walkot or Gervinho becos these players can’t even make a pullout with their left legs… Ahmed Musa shoots with both legs, dribbles from both wings and was nigeria’s star player at the u-20 world cup in Colombia. Pls checkout the match Nigeria vs Croatia and listen to the commentator make those comments…. Ahmed muusaa, mark that name. It touches my marrow. If you want video tapes on this player to make a conclusion, call my London line 07909202949, but I will return to Nigeria on the 22nd so u can reach me on 2348023038077

am of d feeling dat we need him ahead of any other player.he is quick,he could become one of d few players dat can take on evra, clichy, marcelo, sagna, lahm and any other fullback anxtime, anyday, anywhere.he can dribble while running wit d ball,he can swap positions easily,he can shoot while cutting in from d flanks.if he plays against us he will shine.i ve seen him play,he is an impact player.

    @rob
That was uncalled for. How many African players fake there age? Do I detect some racism. Anyway Musa is a good player that can put on the arsenal shirt and do well. His work rate is exceptional.

Ahmed Musa, is a skillful player who is not afraid to shoot.. lot every body lies abt their age so i am guessing he is probably 19 tops 22… at 22 walcott can be frustrating but with musa we would have a hard worker who is not afraid to shoot and take on everybody.. lets add that most african players are not injury prone.. would be an excellent player for us

Yes musa is a very very good player when it comes to chasing dead balls (watch nig vs agentina match) and he’s a heaven of talent. Pls dnt make d mistake of comparing him wit all the ‘i want to b a legend at arsenal” (theo, gervinho, miyachi, and co) compare him str8 wit their forefather (henry)… Dats arsenal’s new no. 14… But i dnt c him in a gunnar jersy.

Another puppy!!! I have been a Gooner for more than 40 years and have only just realised that any real player will not play at the Arsenal as we can’t afford the top signings. No money, no wages , where the fuck does this leave us? There are really decent players who wants to play at Emirates but, we can’t accomodate them. Why, you fucken fat cats……??????????????????? Cahill, Hazard, who else wanted to come but you have your head up where?????? I feel for the bold men of old!
