Is the Van Persie saga finally over? Or perhaps not?

Confusion Over RVP by AH

There are rumours going around today that Arsenal Captain Robin Van Persie is set to sign for Manchester United very soon.

Whether there is any truth in these rumours is yet to be known, however one thing is for sure is that Van Persie was in Germany, training with the squad. Arsenal.com showed pictures of Van Persie in training and he honestly looked quite happy, which was a good sign considering the rumours that we have recently heard that he was considering staying at The Emirates. But that doesn’t mean he will stay as reportedly Man United are the club he wishes to join anyway.

Manchester City seem to have lost interest in the Dutchman and Roberto Mancini confirmed that he doesn’t expect RVP to be wearing a City shirt come 1st September, whilst Juventus reportedly put on a deadline on any potential Van Persie deal and it doesn’t seem to be getting any nearer completion so they are looking at other targets.

It seems that the rumours started from an unexpected source, which was then picked up by other top journalists. Whether those journalists saw the story opportunity or actually know something is unknown. How reliable the original source is I don’t know but it’s highly unlikely given Manchester United and Arsenal’s transfer history. And many fans would see it as ultimate betrayal. I would rather see the Dutchman sold to City than to the Red Devils but I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in the coming days.

Arsenal.com had pictures where he looked absolutely facinated with the prospect of playing alongside Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud. Also potential signings like Sahin and/ or Van der Wiel and/or M’Vila are “probably” convincing The Flying Dutchman to stay. The whole saga as people are saying as a ‘smokescreen’ is quite stupid. Van Persie gas declared officially about not signing a contract. Whether he makes a fabulous u-turn is a seperate question. Joining either City or United will be seen as an utter betratal by us Gooners but probably Le Prof whould have indulged in these cash spillings a couple years back perhaps..??
Whatever the case be, if Wenger CAN hold on to RVP, then we are surely in for a treat come this season. Otherwise we as usual will bounce back and save ourselves from disaster (although the chances of that this season are low)

We only hope we stop going in circles like we do at the start of the season and pray something concrete is done or decided as we speak..

RVP is a good player that would be an asset to any team. I would obviously like to see him at arsenal as much as anyone else.

At this point I think he should just do what he feels. Arsenal would go on regardless.

I’m sick of people saying that maybe if we buy “this player” or “that player”, maybe that will convince him to stay. Arsenal DOES NOT need to convince any one player. We are a big club and will soon start our winning ways again, regardless of anyone’s opinion. People like Vemealen, Koscienly, Giroud, Podolski, Cazorla, and many other players and fans understand that.

If RVP doubts, then that is just too bad. He should do what he feels, but we DO NOT need to beg him.

I think RvP stating he will not sign lit a fire under the asses of the Arsenal board, they obviously see the displeasure losing our top players has caused our fans and players. I believe he will stay because of Wenger and the boards allowance for Wenger to sign three top players already! I can’t see him making a move to another English club now that we have such depth, we can compete on all fronts this year. It would be silly to leave a club that made him the player he is, the fans that supported him through his injury stricken career… Come on RvP, we brought in some new lads ad were looking all that bit stronger to carry us past the likes of big spenders City, Chelsea, and the very disappointed Fergie! If for some reason he does go I hope he leaves England, I don’t want him to have a bullseye on his back like that wanker Samir Nasri at city. What better pleasure would there be to win the EPL next season and rub it in the big spenders’ faces?!?! I’ve ne’er doubted Wenger and it seems the board is finally waking up to RvP’s denial of a contract and Usmanov’s repeated disgust with the way they handle things… Arsenal will be a force to reckon with next season, we have power, technical ability, and above all some depth now!

Sell Arshavin, Park, Chamakh, Squillaci, Vela, Bendtner… Diaby is back, our new signings are great and with Bartley coming back from loan we have some new depth and strength in the back line! Arsenal for life!

Nowadays football is a business as well as a sport. If Van Persie wants Man Utd, he will get there, now or next summer. Therefore if they offer a fair fee, sell him.

I think the defence needs looking at and a couple of signings made in that department before the season starts. A first choice back 5 of Szczesny-Sagna-Koscielny-Vermaelen-Gibbs is good but the back-up of Fabianski-Jenkinson-Djourou-Mertesacker-Santos doesn’t fill me with much confidence and as we all know there will be injuries and suspensions throughout the season.

Force him to stay.If he does not perform his stock will drop and he will lose form. When he sees us winning things without him, he will soon change his tune like Teves did.

Well I was right – kind of! My harping on about there needing to be a change at the top was true, just not Usmanov coming in – rather, a change in policy re wage restructuring! I must place my tail between my legs and humbly rejoin the chorus of excited Arsenal fans – I too, have been buoyed by the reports of an RVP U-Turn, the arrivals of Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski, as well as the talk (which hopefully materialises!) of Sahin, van der Wiel, De Jong/M’Vila/Wanyama/Biglia and hopefully a goalkeeper to assist Sczeseny.

If van Persie does leave now, it will certainly be because of the money, no doubt about it. Wenger has spent and, barring a massive brain fart, will spend some more once he offloads Lardshavin, Bender and Squealachi and ‘Sham’-hack. In my view, we still need a Defensive Midfielder of acclaim (De Jong anyone? – would seal RVP’s signature knowing he had a Dutch teammate coming to join him!), van der Wiel as we need a back up for Bacary Sagna (again, Dutch teammate – would certainly seal RVP’s signature with 2 Dutchmen coming to the Emirates After all, Wenger DID say he wanted to recreate Ajax a while back – for that you need Dutchmen!) and a Julio Cesar or Hugo Lloris would do nicely to round out the summer spending spree and provide Sczenseny with an experienced colleague whom he could learn more from). If this happens, I’ll go down to Ladbroke’s myself and put some dosh on Arsenal to win something this season! Come on spendy Arsene!

  83. Miracle Arsenal says:

All those who say they don’t care if RVP goes
to ManU are talking crap. Deep down you are
all scared. Man up an admit to your fears. That
way you can make the right decisions.

If you think about about it, Wenger talked about
VPs qualities all season at repeated this over the summer.
Why would he sell a player he deems the most
Important to ManU, the most direct rival of all.
Yes he faces a dilemma due to VPs comments.
But surely Wenger will not want to take the blame
For putting in a weaker position compared to United.
I am sure he would rather leave that choice
to VP by keeping him till Jan. That way if VP leaves
For ManU, the club will not suffer the backlash,

If loosing out financially is a major concern, which I imagine
It is, then I think VP will be sold to a club outside
    The premiership.

To be honest I might be wrong but I think VP himself
Is now deliberately out pricing with his demands because
He knows there is very little value in leaving. Let’s face
It, the is not with united at the moment. They
Are not attracting the kind of players they used to.
They are owned by Americans that are more
Tightfisted that our owners. It will be liked jumping
From a frying pan into fire. Going to city will make
VP look very greedy indeed and he knows. He is
In a very tight spot. Not surprised the Grey hairs
    are coming thick and fast.

I expect VP to play it safe by creating a win/win situation
For himself. He stays his last year. If Arsenal
Don’t win a trophy, he leaves and says I told you
do. If Arsenal do win, he stays or leaves with
a trophy to his name. Good Luck RVP. Hope
    You make a wise decision.

Cross your fingers that he stays because it is very unlikely proceeds of his sale will be spent on another player. Whatever Wenger has to spend this summer is what he has regardless of player sales. Look for two more players in one on loan and one between 6-9 million$

  87. Prof Oskie says:

It will be sad if RVP goes to Manu but if he insists and wants to be a sell out then so be it. The 1st goal of Arsenal FC is to be profitable and if Manu wants to buy a 29 year old for 25Million plus 195k a week then we shouldn’t hold back selling. Its their loss, our gain. It will be nice to see this go thru cos it will mean we outsmarted them again. Hopefully he will get crocked up again. Facts.

  89. Deano says:

RVP states that he is not going for the money…

    Arsenal lack ambition…

In my opinion as a UTD fan, Arsenal have a better squad than us going into the new season. He’s obviously a money grabber. Reports claim he wants £220k a week… but no RVP it’s not about money…

In my opinion he’s an injury prone money grabber, my beloved UTD are better of stearing clear, he had a fantastic season last season but 1 good season in 8 and 40% of the 8 he was injured… no thanks RVP… you’re not wanted.

Stay at Arsenal, become a legend don’t do what Na£ri has done and betray the fans that have stood by you all these years and the Arsenal staff that have worked with you all these years.

We know last season Van Persise was a crucial asset for Arsenal, but every asset has depreciation so at the age of 29 his salvage value is zero, so let him go whatever club he wants to go and definitely we will benefit from his sales Go Go Go Gooners this year will be a bright year coooomon!!!!
