Is this Frenchman the right signing for Arsenal?

Is Clement Grenier back on the cards? by Ash

Arsenal are well known to have their fair share of linked players in every transfer window and generally the case is we don’t sign any of them in the end, however in the rare occurrence we do, we have to question why there has been so many months of speculation.

One name that keeps popping up every year, aside from the promised Cesc Fabregas return from Barcelona one day, is former Chelsea forward and now Ligue 1 Lille player Saloman Kalou. Another is Yann M’Vila, who I’m sure after many months of debating, was a complete shock when it came to the final day and we were still without the French midfielder. However this time around it’s a different Frenchman in the centre of midfield, and Clement Grenier is a more than familiar name to the ears of Arsenal fans.

Grenier was linked persistently throughout the summer, however unsurprisingly; come the end of the summer, there was no Grenier to be seen at the Emirates Stadium. But now in another turn of events, national newspaper the Daily Mirror is reporting that a deal for Grenier could be back on the cards for Arsenal.

I personally haven’t seen too much of Grenier myself, however from what I’ve heard he is a good midfielder that has all the qualities you’d want in order to fit the Arsenal style of play. His performances in France have certainly put the media spotlight on him and the fact there are also a supposed few other European clubs on his tail, shows that Arsenal are certainly looking at a top talent, if the reports are true.

However I fear that Arsenal have too many midfielders as it is and although he may offer something different in his own respects, I think that there are other key areas that need to be strengthened first and for the reported £10-12 million price tag his is reported to have, I think Wenger should be looking elsewhere, if the rumours turn out to be the truth.

Grenier often plays on the left, but can operate in the right as well. These are both positions that Arsenal need to strengthen, so is the young Frenchman a good target for the Gunners in January?

We have Flamini, don’t need another Frenchman, plus this Grenier geeza is a nobody.

We have plenty of fantastic players in his position. I rate the kid but CAM is one position we don’t need to strengthen.

Not Remy, he’s standing trial for rape, bearing that in mind I wouldn’t want him at Arsenal…

I’ve always rated Remy, the only doubt was if he would adapt to the Premier League as the French League isn’t the best of late, but he has adapted and has a brilliant conversion rate, and would fit the bill at Arsenal(IMO)

I can guarantee you I watched most of the Ligue 1 last season and have followed him since then, so I’d be more than happy to take your house off of you geezer

and I don’t get why you’re comparing Flamini, a CDM to Grenier, an AM? that’s like saying Seaman was better than Ginola

Don’t mean to cause any offense here as I am half french but…

The French players are not what they used to be bar a few exceptions. Zidane or Henry quality? Nowhere near…good squad payer? Surely but will that make a difference.

Sometimes when you have saved enough penny it is nice to get a REALLY nice treat. Come on AW, get your wallet out!

Not every French player is going to be as good as Zidane and Henry, they were the up there with the best players in the world in there time!

This guy is really not the guy we need right now. We already have enough attackin midfielders as it is! We need to go all out to buy a striker, even if it means we pay more than they are worth. In the grand scheme of things, an extra 8 million for costa wouldn’t matter too much. Every one of my mates who doesn’t support Arsenal said we are a striker away from being one of the best sides in europe. It’s certainley a food time to be a gooner… COYG

We don’t need grenier, we need players ahead of him a class striker a class cdm, maybe a couple of younger defenders. Maybe even a world class winger, but I can’t hide the fact that I am a huge fan of clement grenier and would love him at arsenal

I’ve never seen a guy hit a ball as cleanly as Grenier. Fantastic freekick and long shots. I would love to have him at Arsenal. However, I believe a defensive midfielder (e.g. Pogba) and a striker (e.g. Michy Batshuayi) are more pressing requirements in my opinion.

Well we’ve been linked to another Frenchman heavily tonight: karim benzema. Supposedly we are leading the pack to sign him for 22 million. If it’s true, it would be a good deal. However I don’t think it is true, Madrid don’t have any high profile strikers to replace him with in January. Could happen in the summer though.

Youtube is not great to judge a player but he reminds me of a young Beckham. He seems a bit frail for the EPL.

    Arsenal has been linked with
    every Frenchman since Napoleon.
And Bona would struggle in the EPL.
He’d go past the Arsenal station and end up at Waterloo.
Just goes to prove that the grass is not always Grenier on the other side, of the channel :)
Yes and Napoleon lost at home to Wellington.

    More Germans less French please.
In all seriousness Grenier would be a solid signing if we can get him but. I’d rather try to land Draxler, Reus, Gundogan, Humels, Bender, etc.

We should get Emile Heskey. he is great at holding the ball up to draw defenders out, leaving space behind him for another player to score. I think the Newcastle Jets may be willing to sell him.

We need to solve the immediate problem which is CF,am very sure Wenger will only buy just one player this Jan as he doesn’t like to spend in Jan cos its like a black market business(Expensive).Fans get your minds down and only expect one signing at the deadnite time of the window. I HOPE FOR A CHANGE ANYWAY

I dont understand why Wenger is keeping all of us waiting. Whoever he’s buying needs to get in settle with d player before d games start to roll in. Dont ruin a good season for us, it’ll be disastrous if we fall apart now. We have a very good chance to win d League. Pls buy Wenger buy!!!

He is someone we don’t have in our team. A free kick specialist. He’s kinda like Juninho.
