Is Van Persie taking a big risk by not signing with Arsenal now?
Robin Van Persie is one of the most in-form strikers in the world right now, and his hat-trick against Chelsea at the weekend will only have emphasised the fact to the watching millions, and his reputation will be even more enhanced.
There will be many top managers looking on and thinking that it is possible to buy him next summer if the Dutchman continues to refuse to sign a new contract with Arsenal, and he could command massive wages if he goes elsewhere (like Man City).
But in my opinion Van Persie is taking a big risk by refusing to hold talks with Arsenal about an extension right now, and I will explain why. He will be 29 years in August and although he has been fit since last Xmas his injury record since he arrived at Arsenal has been distinctly unimpressive.
Last season Robin had 26 starts for Arsenal (about half the total games) and other than 2008-09 that is the highest figure for him in his eight years at the Emirates. By not negotiating a new contract with Arsenal (who have nursed him through all those injury-filled years) he is taking the gamble that he will stay fit all season.
If he succumbs to another long-term injury before the end of the season (and lets face it, that is likely) then perhaps all those other managers might reconsider their desire to buy an ageing injury-prone striker who can only play half a season.
Arsenal may be willing to offer him a four (or even five) year contract right now in recognition of his services over the years, but if he does go down with another injury at his age Arsene Wenger may change his mind and only offer a shorter extension (and maybe less money?), especially as he seems to have forgotten the way Wenger stood by him over the years……..

give him the 150k+ he deserves he is bringing hope back of a top four spot or better. if he gets sold it would be like driving a car into a brick wall. we have won 7 of the last 8 games thanks to the magnificant rvp. also good to see verm back in the squad and fit

agreed, the club has shown its loyalty its about time the players show some loyalty to the club and fans too.over the past few years there were cries to let him go but wenger kept faith in him, it about time we get repaid for it.

does anyone here worried about our defensive part?? yes we win, but it’s hard for our team to get a clean sheet lately..the attacking part has done their job, but is defensive done the same?? goal from mata it’s not acceptable because of stupid mistake..i’m not sure if we got true steel at the back..we got lucky when chelshit didn’t score during early 10 minutes game..if they score, i’m sure it would be a different result..

Bull shit jst cos he is d only world class players n d captainacy on his arms that is why he feels d need to produce when need and its the arsenal players giving him balls @ man city or elsewhere he would recieve less of the ball so i believe he can do well else where but can never be as influencial in arsenal.n even a week injury elsewhere can tarnish his time at mancity n real esspecially.

In professional football you are young at 20 years of age, middle aged at 25 and looking into the sunset at thirty.
He`s getting good money now and I`m sure he`ll be offered more. He`s happy and riding a wave, why risk it?

There is also likelihood that you may not be guaranteed first team shirt. Being Multi-Millionaires, some players just choose to retire or go off to the USA.
As for Van Persie and injuries, I will always remember him as the eternal sicknote regardless of how many games he plays from now.
As for the contract, there is zero doubt in my mind that he’ll sign an extension with Arsenal before the Summer. He’s already said don’t believe everything we read in the papers.

@Baba gunner, Mert was brill. We had a lot of errors made on the day by both Santos(whose not played enough since joining and need more games to gel) and Djouru who of course is not a natural right back but also have a poor read of the game. Mert did very well trying to help our both flanks. If you have both ends of the defence leaking no matter how good your centre backs are you will continue to concede goals. See what happened after half, Santos was better(1 mistake made there and Mata in). So we looked to have defended better in the second half cos Santos did better and DJ was better plus jerkins did well. Mert and Kosh were good on the night

Van Persie is willing to put pen to paper on a new contract as soon as Wenger signs more quality players in January mark my word…For me,I stil believe if Wenger had signed some players earlier than he did as soon as Fabregas was sold,I bet Nasri would have stayed on.I pray he doesn’t make same mistake with V.P,he should bring in at least two more QUALITY players in January & watch V.P commit to Arsenal for life.
