Is Wenger waiting to get Hangeland on a free next summer?

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted during the last transfer window that he had looked at bringing Fulham defender Brede Hangeland to the Emirates last summer, but he didn’t make a concrete approach to Fulham.
Hangeland and Fulham have still not reached agreement on a new contract, and with the clock ticking, the 28 year-old knows that he could command a bigger wage packet if he moved on a Bosman next summer.
Hangeland’s agent, Rune Hauge, said today: “There was interest in Brede — but nothing concrete, so now is a good time to resume talks with Fulham.
“Brede always wanted to stay in London and — from Fulham’s point of view — he also likes Roy Hodgson and feels loyal to him.
“We’ve discussed figures, but I presume Fulham are making an internal decision on that — although I can see no reason why something can’t be agreed soon.
“The ball is in Fulham’s court.
“They’re keen to reward him because he’s become a top player — and they should be prepared to pay a top player’s money.”
The Sun billed these comments as “Brede’s Arsenal link resurfaces”, and says that Fulham may decide to cut their losses and sell him on in December, but, as with Marouane Chamakh, i think it is more likely that Wenger will wait until January to gain a pre-contract for Hangeland to move next summer.

Is Gallas leaving? Hangeland will not be coming to Arsenal to sit on the bench. Gallas and Vermaelen will not tolerate sitting on the bench either.
Hangeland’s signing depends on the future of Gallas, definately.
Gallas is in the last year of his contract and may leave at the end of this season. Having seen his form return this season Wenger decided to offer him a new contract. If he signs all well and good. But what with all the Captaincy stuff the happened last year, he might just be biding his time and waiting for a lucrative offer from Italy or Spain as he’s on a free.
He could well “do a Flamini”. All I hope is he is honest to Wenger and doesn’t lead him on as Flamini did. Flamini told Wenger he would stay, waited until he had sold Diarra to Real Madrid then signed for Milan in May.
If Gellas leaves lets hope we DO sign Hangeland as we would be properly solid at the back with him and Tommy V!!
shift vermaelen to the midfield area and play gallas+hangeland at the back this will be fantastic i think
Wenger was asked about the rumours of a new contract for Gallas, and he said that he would wait until Xmas before making any decisions.
