Jack Wilshere is a West Ham fan!
The newest Arsenal youngster to come through the ranks to be a star at the Emirates is our very own Jack Wilshere, but he admitted today that he grew up as a West Ham fan and his boyhood hero was the great Italian Paolo Di Canio.
He said: “My family have always been West Ham fans, so growing up I used to go and watch them and so I was a West Ham supporter. I remember my first game was against Coventry, in 2000, Di Canio scored a hat trick and they won 5-0 so I enjoyed it.
“I used to look up to him for some of the goals he scored. My favourite goal of his was a volley against Wimbledon.
“The fans at Upton Park are great. They are bottom of the league yet they fill it every week and it’s nice to go and play there because there’s always singing. It’s loud and that’s what you want as a footballer.
“But if you become an Arsenal player, you want them to win every week and so you just focus on the three points for Arsenal.”
“In 10 years’ time I still want to be at Arsenal, winning trophies for my club and for the national team as well,” said Wilshere.
“I’ve been there since I was nine or 10. It feels like I’ve always been there, the club’s been great to me and I feel I owe them that to be there and to stay around.
“As long as I’m in the team and I’m happy, then why not?
As long as you are in the team Jack you must be prepared to crush the Hammers and keep them at the bottom of the Premiership!

I don’t see any problem with that, West Ham has always produced great players and its a good rivalry to have, I think it would be a shame for any London team to go down, because they produce such good matchdays and banter. Hey I am willing to go out there and say that I actually enjoy watching the spuds play as well, I love playing as them on fifa and would have no problem watching them. In fact I will be supporting them this weekend and hoping that they get one up on United!

lol yeh van der vaart scores a hatrick and tots win 4-2, it will make things very interesting between us and man u if tots can give man u a spanking, by the way i like van der vaart, i think hes a class player, i thought the premiership might be too rough and tough for him but hes seemed to have settled really well, anyway back to us the ARSENAL, we really need to put in a good performance today against the hammers and we really need them 3 points, COME ON GUNNERS GET UR ACT TOGETHER, performances at leeds and ipswich are just NOT acceptable

The title of this article is wrong. The fact that Wilshire was a West Ham fan does not mean that he is still their fan.
I for instance was a Muslim from birth until age 18 when I became a Christian. I am even now a Christian clergy. The fact that I was a Muslim does not mean that I am one because I am a Christan through and through. Wilshire is Arsenal through and through.

Good on jack for admitting it cos there’s nothing wrong with it! Jamie carragher is an everTon fan yet he put 100% into his career at Liverpool and jack will do the same. This will only make him play better today as well. And arsenal fans talking about getting behind spurs for the united game yes I totally agree but remember to get behind arsenal first As there is no point us loosing and united loosing so let’s be arsenals 12th man today. Come on arsenal!!!!!

could’t care less who he supported as a kid, loads of players support other teams, what more concerning is at 18 wilshere, sends out little threats like “as long as i’m in the team, i will want to stay at arsenal”?
well forgive me but does that mean if he goes through a bad spell we can’t drop him becaurse he’ll threaten to leave ?

Wilshere has been excellent, a revelation, his understanding of playing in the arsenal mid field with song, fabs, nas and wallcot has been superb. He definitely deserves his place in the team, he is another special player, with remarkable positioning intelligence and composure. In half a season he is already a very important member of the first team and when he doesn’t play you can tell. The boy is only going to get better, although denilson, diaby, and rosicky are not really competition for him in the first team they cannot do what he does in team as consistantly as him , keep it simple,pass the ball forward, dribble the ball foward when you can, simples. At least he makes it look simple.
Come on Arsenal !!!!

I really don’t understand your comment wilshere has been brilliant since the youth team since playing under 16\18 football for arsenal, now he’s in the first team he has made it that’s why he’s on 50k a week. what are you thinking, I’m sure he wants to win things with arsenal.

@chris West Ham never produced Wilshere. Hes been at arsenal since he was 9 and they found him at luton town. West Ham have nothing to do with his development as a player.
