Jenkinson – Sagna is a nice guy, but I want his place at Arsenal!
The new Arsenal right back, Carl Jenkinson, has impressed watchers during his pre-season games and has not joined the Gunners to be left on the bench watching Bacary Sagna play every week.
He said: “Well I’d like to think I’m quite an ambitious person, so I want to get into that starting XI and I want to stake my claim to be a first-team regular,”
“That’s my aim, it’s what I want to do and that’s all down to me. It’s up to me to work hard and impress whenever I can.
“Obviously there are going to be opportunities in pre-season, and in training every day so I’m looking forward to working hard and doing as well as I can in an Arsenal shirt.
“Bac’s a really nice guy, very friendly and I’m sure it will be good for us both – him to be pushing me and me pushing him.
“It’s always healthy in a team environment to have that competition, and hopefully we can bring the best out of each other.”
Who thinks that Jenkinson is actually better than Sagna?

He’s not too bad has got good speed and is quite solid just needs to work on his crossing but he won’t get sagna place he’s simply too good.

has anyone thought about arsenal signing alex from chelsea. That guy tick all the box in what we need in a defender. Availble,peak Age,bully,Tall,strong,cheap,champ league experience(unlike jags,cahil,samba),epl experience,a brazilian(our style of play),goals,never prone to error and a leader(watch him when psv got to the champ league semis) wenger just have to persuade him not chelsea and he will force his move(cashley cole)

really a good guy especially his cross are very smart and sharp,he can fill Sagna’s weakness.but defensively Sagna is fantastic.I hope Jenkinson will dominate the please in the future.HE IS SURELY TALENTED GUY.

On jenkinson. I watch him played in pre-season games. He’s fast, physically strong and tall. Crossing a’int that bad. Compare to Sagna. Sagna is just ok for me. He’s not a good crosser either, most of the time just luck. Sagna is still not to the standard of first class wingback (i.e Dani Alves, Ashley Cole, Roberto Carlos, Thuram, Zambrotta (in Juve), Lizarazu & others.
Hence for me, Jenkinson is already at par with Sagna. AW should give him a chance in league game.
This goes the same to Miyaichi. I think, if this kid can instill the believe & confident in himself, he is better than Arshavin. I really believe so.

@ Eric….Alex would be perfect, he is exactly what we need, just like Samba, Just like Cahill and we need Baines.
Jenkinson is not ready yet, has alot to learn, has all the attributes but is not the polished gem yet. His attitude is good though. He does look like a rabbit in headlights being at the emirates which is to be expected and hopefully wont last too long.
However, Sagna is a muppet who is a fantastic athlete. But he can only run, his defending is average at best, his crossing worse than a pub player and his goals are flukes.
He hasnt improved since the day he put on the shirt.
Overall, I dont see anything happening though. We wont pay the money. Im not sure who is stalling on the fee we are paying, does Wenger have final say or does he say, get me that player? We need to clarify this? Im sure if Wenger said get me Cahill and are told 17m the club would pay it. It must be Wenger??? If so he is strangling the club of potential success….If the rate to get a top centreback is now that, we have to pay. we need it, we all know it. He knows it. Why waste games with Squillaci when we all know the outcome, we should be bedding in Samba, Cahill and co in these games prior to the season starting not throwing them in at the deep end at the last minute. Thats shit preparation. We also have the small task of qualifying for the C League. Im half wishing we dont then we stand more chance of the PL….
We are all at sea at the moment with no captain and no rudder.

dont any of you get it? wenger says he wont spend big until he knows what’s going on with fabregas and nasri thats his excuse not to spend big money!! there wont be mata without selling fabregas and there wont be cahill or samba cuz they would cost 30 mill so what your going to see is fabregas will leave in the last min and there will be no time to bring anyone in to replace him and thats what wenger want’s!!!!. any other manager would of had this back 4 sorted out by now sagna,samba,cahill,vermaelen, maybe then nasri would sign a new contract and maybe just maybe fabby would think 1 more year!!! fck wenger get someone in who can win us things we are only 30 mill away from it

Sanga’s the best right back in the premier league in my opinion, so jenkinson’s got a tough challenge ahead of him if he wants that spot. Especially after that ownage own goal he scored playing against fc koln

Jenkison has shown that he has real confidence despite the own goal, that’s exactly the kind of atitude we need at arsenal, i hope miyaichi has the same atitude. These 2 have great potential.

The blind loyalty of so many Wenger lovers defeats all reason. Here we are having made precisely one significant signing and not in the areas, defense or goalkeeper that we needed it. We have two key players who don’t want to be here. By any objective measure we are in a worse position than this time last season. Even just taking our pre season results. The obligingly that is “more” are the ticket prices.
The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over that doesbt work. Believing that Wenger and the board behind him will do anything differently is a great example. Try continue to do what they have always done-a leopard doesn’t change his spots. Our defense despite all the millions of words spent discussing it, is still weak. We have no world class goalkeeper, no we don’t as much as we would like to hope so.
The thousands of carpel tunnel syndrome injuries on blogs spent fantasizing about the half dozen players we would buy and sell. Laughable — when the record shows the most Wenge has brought in in the summer is 3. This summer it will be two at most even if you count Jenkinson which I don’t. Man U moved early and decisively and did their business ours grinds on without resolution. Nothing changes while Wenger is around and the moneyed under managers om te board behind him.
Blind faith without looking at the record and the facts is moronic. Why would we expect anything to change? And it hasn’t. Lesson learned.
And now the result of this inertia is that we are going to be hammered by Man U and soon slip out of the top four. Maybe then the Wenger lover will wake up.

Went to the emirates cup saturday and have to say very impressed with Sakho of psg. Looks solid and gets his head on everything. We should be looking at signing him the new Thuram i think. Jenkinson your time will come but not yet fella, season out of loan in the championship would do you the world of good.

Dont blame Wenger, blame Fifa’s Financial Play Rule, its impossible, its got all clubs shiiting to meet the minimum requirements. Plus we still have debt, we may be the 5th richches club, but we still have debt.
Jenkinson has style, can play well. But is still young, and most defenders peak after 26, so he’s got time
As for choice, I would chose Alex or Samba.

I share your frustration and I think you expressed your points well.
However, you probably know that Man Utd is also $750M in debt.
With that said, I would like to know from everyone here which option would they prefer:
1. Arsenal winning the title next year, but having spend 70M on players
2. Challenge for the title (but not win), and be in a better financial situation in the upcoming years, and probably afford players that bigger teams can’t afford because their existing players have high salaries.
Thus, making Arsenal more prominent and attractive for both players and sponsorships.
I am not attacking your points @DD IN LA, just trying to get a better understanding of where your stand.
PS: As an Arsenal fan, who has been watching them for 15years, I believe that Arsenal needs to make a substantial financial investment of $60-$70 Million in order to bring in players that would allow us to challenge and win the premiership, CL and the various cups. I also believe that AW already knows this. However, instead of losing faith he is still making buys, which are good but only for the future. And as long as we are close, existing players should keep on believing they can do it.

This would be my starting XI with the players we’re certain of now. So no Nasri or Fabregas.
But we can improve it:
I’d get a new CB to partner Verminator and a LB to back up or compete with Gibbs. Jose Enrique maybe? Let Nasri and Fabregas go. The 60mil they bring up you can invest in those defenders and Juan Mata. Or maybe Gourcuff (unlikely).
We might also play 4-2-3-1. Just my toughts…

you lot are a joke. cahill and jagielka are not even near worth what they are reported to be valued at. 7million for alex, 17m for these two? i dont know what you jokers have been watching but surely both of them are not nearly as good as alex or the current first choice defenders that we have.sometimes i laugh that people suggest that we need Baines or enrique, gibbsy is equal if not better than those two.

as for our defending yes it needs improvement, but what you have to realise is its not one persons fault, our defending as a team is not up to standard. and that is down to the mentatlity of our players. our collective pressing and pressure as a team has to improve alot.
no doubt jags or cahill would be a fantastic addition to our squad, but for 17 million? i can understand why wenger is hesitating and looking at other options.
Samba is not good enough for arsenal.
i really hope some of you wake up, go support fucking mancity or liverpool if you want your team to splash millions on subpar players and at the end of the season complain that you dont spend enough. Im proud the way my club is run, i hope this season we will get our act together.

I find it even more deluded you think Sagna is a complete player? Have you ever seen a cross that connected? We bought Chamakh for Sagna to have a target, when did Chamakh or RVP ever get a cross they could head from. Its no surprise that Sagna never takes a free kick. The guy is a headless chicken….that’s why we got jenkinson.
Eboue would stay for life as cover if Wenger had wanted him to.Sagna is only an athlete. I think he is an amazing athlete, but hes not a footballer.
His crossing has never improved and he has no range of passing. He is a runner who kicks a ball pure and simple.

Malik, you certainly are nuts if you think Sagna is better than Alves. And the best in the world…hahaha….As much as I can’t stand Alves, he has so much more to offer than Sagna. He scores for one and knows what to do with the ball in the final third. Wenger knows that Sagna is very limited, hence gets a direct replacement to provide competition. He’s sending a signal to Sagna just like he did to Cole with Clichy.
You didnt really expand upon why Sagna is the best in the World, but then again I didn’t expect you to.

whats the point in selling late and buying late! ive given up on fabregas, let him go for £35 mil and then spend the money straight away on quality not shoddy, it should have been done along time ago really! look at what everyone else is doing! last minute replacements dont work! we need a good start tot the premiership otherwise the whole team will lose faith regardless of who comes in! weve got a tough start to this premiership, il be massively dissapointed if wenger doesnt sort this team out before we kick off next week!!

Nothing is going to happen, no trophies no nothing. 5th,6th even 7th position for next season!! The only way forward is Wenger, hill-wood and that yanks head!! Sooner the better!!
