Joel Campbell turns down Arsenal offer!

Posted on July 19, 2011 by admin

Well there’s a surprise! Despite Arsenal agreeing terms with Joel Campbell’s club Deportivo Saprrissa of just under £1m, the player himself has declined Arsenal’s offer and has decided to wait until after the U20 World Cup before deciding where his future lies.

According to Sky Sports, Man Utd also followed up Arsenals bid with an offer for the teenage sensation, so Campbell and his father are going to put off their decision for a while.

“We’ve decided we will not sign anything yet,” his father said. “We have other offers on the table that are being analysed, but nothing’s done. Let’s negotiate after the World Cup.

“We hope to go to the World Cup and that Joel plays well without pressure. We’ll see what happens.”
Disappointment

The Saprissa president Juan Carlos Rojas was probably thinking of the cash his club have lost out on when he said: “It’s disappointing for football and for Saprissa that these people have not taken Arsenal’s offer seriously,”.

“I assume the father thinks things will get better after the decision, but there’s always a risk.

“It’s a pity Costa Rican football could not have a player at Arsenal at the moment.”

It is probably a disappointment for Arsene Wenger as well. First Alvarez, and now Campbell. Let’s hope he has better luck in the coming weeks……

I honestly think that Manchester United wait until Arsenal show interest in a player and then show an interest also, because almost every young player that Arsenal wants, Ferguson suddenly shows an interest in. Like they have an alarm at Old Trafford that alerts them of players Wenger wants…

You’re spot on. What The Arsenal needs to do the cases they are after the young players to sign is to throw the followers on false leads, potentially on bad players!

Frankly, we dun really need a striker. We NEED a strong CB. And even if we are to add a striker, he needs to be a class striker, not another ‘teenage sensation’.

Aguero, is a class act striker, and Arsenal will sign him………

This Is a trend which is becoming more common …. arsenal are failing to attract the type of player which use to walk through fire to come to us.

We are losing our appeal to young and inexperienced players as has been seen with alveraz* and now this unheard of striker.

We cannot match other teams wage structure nor can we offer as much money – and lets not forget these are not world class players or veteran winners we are talking about here… which by the way we seem incapable of attracting – these our young players who would prefer to go else where now days.

Can we only get players from france who have one good season? And gazidis* says we have substantial funds, well just how much will we have to spend to ensure we get the player?

I highly doubt our clubs power to attract the type of player we need to push us onto a title.

His father says to wait after the world cup before decidin where to sign. Joel campbell would be worth notin after the world cup. Cos costa rica would be booted out in the first round, and he wont score a goal. Then ofcourse, the ‘decision’ would have been made to come beggin Arsenal for his signature.

Those guys are costing us money as a matter of fact…
We are still paying for our seat at the Emirates and we do not have any returns on our investment…

If we look closely, we are the “fools” because we keep subsidising the club ( by going to the stadium and buying merchandises ) but we are not getting our money worth…

That’s just ridiculous, Liverpool, Man U and soon Man City are spending furiously in order to compete for the ultimate prize…

We will again come sad second of those teams… I do not give us a top 4 finish, not a chance…!!

  20. Sid says:

I think the young lad thinks that “if” he does have a decent outing in the world cup, even with a couple of good matches he can then demand a higher wage.
This ofcourse is a bit on gamble in case he turns out to be a dud in the cup. But then this might prove to advantageous for us (assuming that he really is a talent and had just a couple of bad games) as he will come begging for a contract.
But if he does put up a show then Manure might end up getting him with higher wages.

I couldn’t really give a damn about this Campbell bloke, if he joins us, United or Mansfield Town!

All I want is Wenger to buy a proven CB like Cahill, pay Bolton the 17mil least he has desire about him, and buy Baines from Everton as it’s a bit quiet on the blue side of merseyside, so money must be short…

If or when Fab goes (he ain’t happy so let him go) tempt Lille with £30 million for Eden Hazard…

Hmm, let’s see: Nas wants out, Fab wants out – but is not being sold to the club he’s had his heart at for years now(that’s how we treat our players who desperately want to leave, warning to any player who considers us), no prospect for trophies, no great players to play with, a manager whose marbles have all but fallen out his nose, other clubs show ambition and pay more, club management ‘very active’ consuming pharmaceuticals to the degree that they know longer know what they are doing or what they want to do with every media event a complete reversal of the last, yeah we are a really attractive club these days.

If we lose out, that will mean he will be a very good player. @JEL…this has been going on for mush longer, do not forget Cristiano Ronaldo was close to signing for Arsenal, but AW…did not want to spend the extra One Pound-Fifty to get him.
But….it is sad to say but, he might be better off at ManU …to help him become a better player..as he will have experience players to help him, who know how to win things..unlike Arsenal with little boys and older little boys who can not win things. AS the best thing Ronaldo did for him slef is to sign for ManU….as he would never be the player he is today if he had signed for Arsenal…sad but true…he would now be alot like Theo Walcott…showing his potential but never getting their..being played out of position and so on.

Gervinho has proven himself in a French league as did chamack!! I rest my case. Weather I wrote hung or hang either way you understand me did u not?? So shut the fu#k up and do one!!! your another paper fan, who sees a signing and jumps for joy, like a dog when given a biscuit, we need to make the right signings for the right areas eg DEFENDERS!! so gunner take your bum friend ken and finish off your champ manager game. Lol I would just like to say I have nothing against Gervinho I really hope he works for us, I just stated he was never a 20million player and he’s a typical Wenger signing. We all know that the defence needs strengthening and remember that there are ages before the window closes.
If you could only stop being so abusive for once maybe your comments would be viewed with more interest, but language you use is heard being used by people who cant discuss properly.

Henry, Vieria, Petit, Sagna, Clichy, Pires, Anelka,Baz (sorry that name just slipped out).
Yes we had some not so good ones as well but just look at those names above and what did they all have in common???
They all believed in Arsene (except Baz) along with the rest of the Invincibles etc.
Why do people forget so quickly the good times and want to destroy the foudations that the Emirate stadium move has created?
We have a great footballing manager who has brought fantastic success and will do so again.

I am sick of reading whinging, whining “fans” do nothing but knock the club and everyone in it. Most of you carry on as if the club exists for your purpose only. Take a minute, check out sites for fans of any other club, and see how real fans show their support. Most of you are a bloody disgrace!

    Hi Guys…
There is a lot of arguing going on here regarding the Manager and Arsenal Football Club.
Whether you are a total believer in Arsene Wenger or not doesn’t deflect from the problems that we have. Yes, the Manager has bought cheap players and turned them into stars…no doubt about that…but we are now in our new home long enough to bring a trophy home. We need a top quality keeper….a world class centre-back and a replacement centre-back. We probably need a central midfielder in case Fabregas goes….other than that…we have the material to contest the Premiership. I am convinced that if we had the players (unnamed) that I speak about above….we could have won the Carling Cup, FA Cup and the Premiership last year. The European competition is based somewhat on luck and therefore I cannot say for definite that we can win it next year. Let’s all become one and hope that Mr. Wenger knows what he is doing…bottom line for me is that I love Arsenal Football Club and although a trophy would make me proud….it is not how I evaluate my club. Arsenal abú.

  40. Baz says:

Ken, my friend I understand what your saying, Wenger WAS a legend, he did buy many good French players, I agree, ken that was many moons ago, Wenger is no longer the man he was, he has lost it, washed up and finished, six seasons of failure is for to long for a great club like arsenal to go without a trophy?? Wenger was great with the guidance of David Dein, soon as Dein left, we haven’t won anything, I and many more believe Wenger has lost his hold of the team along with this ambition and winning mentality. Wenger has not been doing well with transfers since Dein left, the good players we do have want to jump ship?? This is because Wenger persists with a failed system, floored tactics and makes false promises. Ken I as well as many fans and players can see this, Wenger dose not address the weakness we can see, these weekness needed addressing a few seasons ago but we kept hearing lies and false promises. The reason why I use abscne language is because I am very frustrated with the farse going on at our club!! You say trust in Wenger but for how long?? If Wenger was at any other ambitious club he would have been sacked, the ONLY reason he’s still here is because he’s making money for the greedy board and share holders!! Is WENGER really a football Manager or is he a BANK manager?? Over to you KEN,

Rate this comment: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  41. ken says:

baz, thanks for that, lets see if I can address your points.
1.We have been in the top four for the last eleven years.
Of course we havent won anything in the last six years, but surely you will agree that against barcelona in the final we were just 13 minutes away from winning it after playing with ten menn for over 80 minutes.
last season one of the worst decisions ever made saw VP sent off when we were again winning.
against Birmingham the worst own goal ever seen saw us lose a game we should have won.
These are just three major incidents that was nothing to do with Arsene being washed up and clueless, nothing to do with David Dein (a great gooner I agree)having left.
Thats how close we were to winning a trophy.
2.The transfer market has seen us buy some great signings since David left (Verm, Kosky) along with some still to prove themselves (Chamask). But those players we all want to see go (Denilson, Bedtner, Almunia ) were bought while David was at the club.
3.We have needed to strengthen our defence for two seasons and it was a tragedy that verm was out for most of the season. Squal is not good enough and is a bad buy, but what manager has not made mistakes? Arsene has been proved right much more than proved wrong. I agree that if he doesnt buy at least one defender then we should start to worry, but we know he has enquired about three central defenders and time will tell.
4.Is he a football manager or bank manager? I think he is one of the top football managers in the world. If he left us, clubs would be begging him to join them. WHY? Because he has taken a club that eleven years ago were just another average english team that sometimes won a cup or the league but never appeared in the last sixteen of the champions league, never, to where we are know. We had a great but tired old stadium, now we have the best stadium in the country, that is full every time we play and a waiting list of 20,000 plus for season tickets.
Arsene haas never lost money on a transfer deal except for Jeffers. He has made millions for the club and that has helped in building the Emirates etc.
If you were on the board and investing your own money, would it not be reasonable to expect a return for your cash? Nobody was asking about how much money the board was making when we were winning trophies, if we had won the carling cup would you have been asking this question?
    4. We are losing our best players? The only one we have lost so far is Clichy for £8million!!! As I write this, not one other player has left. If Cesc does go we all know the reason why, but, again, what a profit we will make after having the mastro play for us for 8years. If nasri goes then good riddance to him. He reminds me of Adebayour who thought he could hold Arsenal to ransom. Not one other plaayer has hinted or asked for a transfer and we have signed two players so far, lets wait and see what happens.
Thanks for your reply Baz, I hope you can see my point of view and that we prove all the doubters wrong this season.
    Over to you sir!!!

  43. ken says:

paul, not disagreeing with you, but would you be in Birminghams shoes or ours?
Winning is great, but consistency is the key.
We have been in the top flight since 1918, in the top four for eleven consecutive years and are financionally sound.
Whats 6 years when down the road they havent won the league for 50 years!!!!!!
If we dont sign more players before the start of the season, then I will start to questioon what the board and Arsene are up to, but until then they have my complete support.
Keep the faith until August at least.
