Keown and Ramsey – Easier now to put things right

Posted on October 21, 2011 by admin

After just one defeat in six games, Martin Keown has praised Arsenal’s bounce back to form after their lucky but deserved victory against Marseille on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the Metro, the Arsenal legend said, “The defending has improved in recent weeks and it’s easier to put things right when you are winning more than when you are losing and the centre of attention and criticism… Sometimes the game is about an urgency to get the ball back. Arsenal did that against Marseille”.

Now that the critics have seen Wenger’s men looking stronger than they have done for a while, the lack of continuous disapproval and disappointment will indeed help them to concentrate on the proceedings on the pitch and not the rumoured player departures, ‘imminent’ relegation and of course the end of Wenger’s reign.

On top of this, the six home games before the end of the year are all extremely winnable. Of course, this run of form can never be guaranteed to be continue, but Stoke, West Brom, Fulham, Wolves and QPR should surely be three pointers, with Everton arguably looking like the biggest challengers of them all.

Ramsey shared Keown’s views when speaking to the Mirror: “The confidence is returning, no question. We’ve not had the greatest of starts but hopefully now we’ve turned a bit of a corner and we’re getting a few wins on the bounce… I feel it’s important to keep up the momentum and hopefully get another win over the weekend which will give us more confidence and belief”.

The Welshman in particular will be tested for his confidence against Stoke after his horrendous injury sustained from that fixture in early 2010. If they can pass this test, the next two months look promising.

All we need to do is take things one game at a time. Despite the bad start and the negativity surrounding us, I actually feel like we do have something to build on, provided we buy the right players in the January and summer transfer windows. If we can grind out 2 or 3 results like we had mid-week, our league position will look a lot better, as we are not that far behind 4th spot, and our confidence will continue to grow. We also must remember that Wilshere, Vermaelan and Diaby are still to come back from injury, and with Arteta, Arshavin, Frimpong, Benayoun, Song, Ramsey, Ox and Co, we suddenly have competition for places in our midfield, which should create a hungrier squad. Its not all doom and gloom, this season will be a test, but the basis is there for us to move forward next season.

Ramsey seems to be pulling his weight and many others as well. He looks as if he has matured and he has done a gd job in trying to fill fabregas boots!

  3. TAF says:

One of our problems over recent years has been our performances against the less prestigious teams. This next run of games will be a test of how far we have come in such a short period in time after big changes at the club. I have every confidence we will come out off the next 5 games with 10-15 points. Then we must look at maintaining that level of performance throughout the season!

    BELIEVE!

Our current squad has a great potential and a good depth. I’d love to one of those formations one day…

    Sczesny Sczesny
    Kos Verm Kos Verm
    Sagna Gibbs Sagna Gibbs
    Song Song Wilshere
    Chambo Wilshere
    Ramsey Ramsey
    Chambo Gervinho
    Gervinho Van Persie Van Persie

Subs: Fabianski, Santos, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Arteta, Park, Walcott…

It might be for next year but I think it’s promising ^^
The only concern I have is wether it’s too weak or not.
I’d welcome the arrival of a beasty DM with technical qualities like moussa sissoko, jan verthongen or javier martinez. Two songs on the field would be a nightmare to our opponents.
I’m also convinced that a strong, quick and versatile forward like loic remy could be a great and realistic sign (benzema would be my first choice but it seems unrealistic, not talking about a villa, lavezzi, hulk or neymar…)
Remy should be better than walcott anyway…

Let me know what you think about it and please argue!

I would like to see Javi Martinez and Xherdan Shaqiri come to arsenal. They are both awesome players, Shaqiri is a brilliant winger and he has the strength for the premier league and Javi Martinez has great strength and great passing ability.
    Line-up at full strength
    Szczesny
    sagna Kos/Mert TV5 Gibbs/Santos

    Martinez
    Arteta Wilshere
    Shaqiri AOC
    RVP

    Subs: fabianski,kos/mert,gibbs/santos,song/rosicky,ramsey/Arshavin,walcott/gervinho,park/chamakh

Shaqiri would cost £8m and Javi Martinez will cost around £15m
