Kieran Gibbs expects tough test from Olympiakos on Wednesday

Posted on September 30, 2012 by admin

Arsenal may have lost their first game of the season yesterday but they won’t have too much time to dwell on it as there is the small matter of a Champions League game coming up on Wednesday, which could be perfect to lift the team ahead of the coming league matches.

Arsenal need another win to cement their expected progress through to the Group stages, and Arsene Wenger will want qualification tied up as quickly as possible. Although Olympiakos lost their opening Group game against Schalke, they are certainly no pushovers having won their first five games in the Greek League planting them firmly on top of the pile.

Kieran Gibbs, who helped keep out Montpellier’s onslaught in the second half of our opening Group match, is also expecting another hard game against the Greek Champions. “We know Olympiacos are going to be a difficult test,” he said. “We’ve had a good start in the Champions League with the win in Montpellier, so it’s important that we’re at home, we get another win and we can put ourselves on the front foot to finish top of the group.

“Montpellier was a big test for us. I think we knew what was coming for us in the second half. When we went in at half time 2-1 up, you could tell that they were going to put the pressure on and we did very well to soak up the pressure.

“We defended well as a team and did enough in the end to get the three points – that’s what’s important, the three points and a strong start to our Champions League season.”

And a nice lift ahead of next weekends game against West Ham would be nice. Let’s see a return to winning ways and get some of that confidence back!

Gutted about the chelsea result. Although we really didnt deserve a win. This game will give us the oppertunity to bounce back and forget it. Is a long way to go in the league and were in a better position than at this point last season. Have faith guys, Arsene knows best and will get us a trophy this year.

Am really going to sound pessimistic but I think we might be under dogs for all the upcoming games until we get szczesny back in goal! Mannone simply doesn’t cut it! He cannot man his box area and all the upcoming fixtures are going to use that to their advantage. Yes he can throw in afew saves to excite some fans but he always looks shaky at best whenever balls are crossed in. Mertesacker simply has to play all these games to neutralise these aerial threats because this keeper won’t be punching these balls away.

If we can’t beat an average team like Olympiakos at home, then we don’t deserve to be playing in the Champions League!

chelsea are a good side an we were always going to lose a game at some point, but if were supposed to be serious about challenging we cant be losing games at the emirates.i think we still need to let some mediocre players go an buy some top players in key positions i.e striker, and defensive midfield

@true goon arteta, coq and frimpong dm is covered. remember we still havent conceded a goal from open play so that area isnt a problem. what we are lacking is a clinical ST.

Giroud must start, n must b made target man in box….
Crosses can b converted in goal by his aerial power…
n against Chelsea 1st half many cross chances n thy did bt in second half when Giroud came lack of crosses same as against City!
Thumbs up Giroud, goals will he need services n understanding wid midfield…
