Kieran Gibbs returning for Arsenal – Just in time to replace Djourou!
Arsenal suffered yet another defensive injury yesterday in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, when Johann Djourou was taken off just after half time with a groin injury. Arsene Wenger said after the game that the Swiss internatinal is expected to be out for at least three weeks.
But he gave Arsenal fans some good news too as he revealed that the young left-back Kieran Gibbs could be ready to play as early as this midweek’s game against Aston Villa.
Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna are already out for the Gunners, but when asked if Gibbs will be ready to return soon Wenger said: “He is I think one week maximum away. He could be present at Aston Villa or the game after against Wolves. Of course, you want him back and to play.”
Gibbs hasn’t played a competitive game since October 16th against Sunderland, and is thought to be very injury-prone. We will just have to hope that he manages to get a run of a few games at least before he gets injured again!

Losing Djourou is not a big blow. Miquel is getting closer to being considered a rotational first team player. He would cover the Cb positon. Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Koscienly, and Miquel (used sparingly).
Gibbs at LB, with Vermaelen and Miquel as cover.
Jenkisnon is about 1 to 2 weeks away from returning. We can then have Koscielny and Miquel as cover.
By the end of January Sagna should be back from his injury.
We are cutting it close though, it has to be said. I imagine something along these lines is realistically what Arsene will do. Rather than spend, or loan. I can’t think of anyone who is available in this position. It’s a very difficult position to get a top quality player in the first place!

This is actually a blessing in disguise. Maybe it will prompt Wenger to buy a defender in January.
I actually thought Djourou played a good game when he was involved. As most expressed and I agree, he’s no one too important to lose. Let’s hope Gibbs has eaten a few hamburgers in his time off. The kid’s so fragile and thin. Needs to bulk up and get stronger.

To me Djourou has been doing a great job. Have my doubts on Miquel.We need a more clinical striker, defence and mid looks good to me. Its the final third where we are lacking that cutting edge. We create chance but lack that consistent striker to burry them if VP is having a bad day. A striker is what we need.

Dont be suprised if Gibbs gets injured again soon. There is no need for a new defender as we have lots of good young defenders in the reserves.

Well Djourou plays in central defense and as right back only when it is an emergency, where as Gibbs plays as Left back so we can’t exactly say that it is a replacement.
Regardless of this fact I only rate Sagna and Jenkinson who are both unfortunately our RB options and as usual with our injury problems we have lost them both.
Neither Gibbs or Santos have the complete product at LB so we continue to have a problem there.
Our most consistent defender is Koncielny who did not have the best of seasons last year so you never know PM might be a rock next season.

Well Played Arsenal very good game shame we lost but we gave them hard time. Hope City somewhere down the line drop the points. Will see.

Of topic but I think we have already had are slump this season I feel this is the reverse of what has happen to us before, great start and shit end to a season I really do feel its the other way round this time where gonna shock people where we finish this season trust me,, 3 more much needed players and we gonna suprise everyone where we fin,,where not dropping out the top 4 I think the suprise drop is gonna be chelsea sorry chelsea fans but I do think its gonna be your team to drop out,,,,,,,,,, city is due the slump and its coming real soon trust me they may not lose alot but the draws is whats gonna cost em ,,,, arsenal is gonna have a very big say in where this title goes every team above us we played away you gotta come to us now and where better,,,,, my top 4 is the two mans and the two north londons which order fuck knows but its them 4trust me..

How you can say we played good, when we lost. I don’t take a sh*t if we played well. I have had enough of beautiful Arsenal. I want trophies! But we are so much behind Man. City. F*ck you Gazidis, Kroenke and Hill-Wood. We would be top of table right now if we had Usmanov and Dein on Board.

Gud 2 hear dat gibbs is coming back.it is becoming frustrating seeing our team losing defenders per match .hope it stops.my main injury scar on sunday was when zabaleta hacked rvp from behind.somebody close 2 them shuld warn that guy 2 take his time.rvp is too precious 2 us 4 some wicked players out of jealousy 2 put him on d sideline.

How can we say we played a good game this is how,,,, who would have thought 3months ago we would give this current city side a run for there mills the same city team that beat man u 6~1 the same man u side that beat us 8~2 ,,,, city have been the best attack in the prem this season there goals show that,, think u need ta look at how far this gooner side has come in a short space of time where right back in this race for top we are by no means out of it a win yesterday we would have been 6 points behind who would have ever thought that with the start we had,, all we need is 3 top players but respect to are current team for creeping us up that table this season is far far from over city slump in form is coming back to back draws and a few loses is gonna hurt them,,,,we can hold are heads up high after the lose yesterday they may have won but most thought they would tear us a new one with the team they have now compeard to us…..

i think we are sorted at CB with miquel looking like a good back up player.
we have 5 cb and thats NOT including squillaci.
gibbs wil be back this week
he should stay fit for a month or so then vermilen will cover untill santons gets back.
sagan should be back 1-2 week away
so he should be soild at RB so thats big news.
we could have a veryyyyy goood second hald of the seasion
with big ganes coming up we need our best team out there
am hoping we bring in a striker that is our main target

Did someone say Jenkinson is back in 2 weeks. Would have been great news if it were true. Sadly its not accurate as his last scan did not show good progress in healing. It is estimated that he will need at least another 4 weeks before his next scan.

I am just wondering if it would hurt to be giving Yennaris a 10-15 mins in these games. I think he is a brilliant right back for the reserve team but I tend to think he might just be ok here given the chance. My ideal scenario would be to slowly introduce Yennaris n Miguel into the first team as a priority so we can get an experience creative mid and striker. If we had a Fab replacement in the mid we would have beaten city with ease. There was no creativity to supply our striking force. Just a thought

I think we need a creative mid as much as we need a complete striker. Our style of game rely heavily on midfield creativitywe do not score much from long range or croses. Games are harder for us cos we need to be able to break defenses down. So a very good fab replacement and striker to help VP out is crucial. Also please lets give Park some games. I think the boss is keeping him till Chamack n Gerv are off to African Nations Cup. I think he would do better than chamack
