Kieran Gibbs – Sick note extraordinaire!
When Arsene Wenger sold Gael Clichy to Manchester City in the summer, did he really think that Kieran Gibbs would suddenly shake off his never-ending injuries enough to become the regular left-back?
Gibbs record with Arsenal has been abysmal, and in his sixth season at the club the most league appearances he has made in a season is 6, which is one more than he has managed so far this time around. He had a big chance last season when Clichy got injured, and there was talk about him getting a long run in the side and even a possible England call-up at the end of it.
I think he lasted two games before his metatarsal gave way and put him out of the game even longer than Clichy! His latest problem started with stomach pains after Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Sunderland, but that has now turned into a hernia that needs fixing.
Wenger said yesterday: “He has a hernia and had surgery on Thursday. He looks like he will be out for between four and five weeks. At first he had an abdominal strain, certainly caused by the fact that he had a hernia already. When the strain was healed we discovered that he had a hernia. We had a fear that could be behind it so we decided to do the surgery.”
Since his PremierLeague debut in early 2009 Gibbs has made just 18 starts for the first team, luckily Cup games have put the number up to 50, but even that is a very poor record for a defender that started his career with such promise.
It is doubtful that new-boy Andre Santos will be able to play every game in his absence, but should Wenger have anticipated these ongoing problems?

Gibbs is a disappointment juz lyk Diaby! They fall in luv with the Arsenal medical staff. Something needs to be done or else he wont enjoy his career.

sadly this lad (really a winger) will never make the grade…
his positional sense is extremely poor – clumsy in the tackle giving away needless free-kicks in dangerous area’s…expose’s our left side far too often – and because of his inbuilt desire to be a forward is just wrong for the job
you can lead a horse etc etc…
and most important of all is the consistency element – there is an obvious weakness so we just have to hope that Santos continues improving with every game and makes this position his own

I wish I could take as much time off work “sick” as Gibbs and Diaby. I would be fired within 1 year despite my potential.
At least Gibbs is you Diaby has been doing this so long he is now in his “Prime”

But why is the board letting these players be part of the club? Why they waste our money for their wages? No matter the talent, if they can’t play, kick them away!

Gibbs, rosisky n diaby have been doing this for years now they’ll play/be available no more than 30 games a season between them. they r seriously just hogging our wage bill. if we can buy gourcuff for 8m-12m then we should sell diaby 2 the highest bidder cause his the worst out of the 3, Rosisky has lost his mojo we should sell rosisky & bring in a High Class LW n give arshavin the role of back up CAM. n maybe loan Gibbs 2 prove his fitness whilst buying Verthongen 2 cover him in his abscence it would be nice but i’m probably just daydreaming, arsene will buy us another 5yr old prospect in the CM, CAM n LB position with 2 of the 3 being successful n 1 of them being another flop like denilson, squid or almunia etc. sigh, the life of a gooner

Come on guys, you can’t predict these things. Injuries like these usually happen, when the players give their all for the team. I mean what about Vermalen, injury prone but a valuable member of the team. Similarly with Robin at one time.

Who in an Arsenal shirt has got more injuries dan rvp? Yet we all love him! Wen eduardo n rambo broke their legs we all wept especially cos d latter was uprisin. Why is it so dofficult 2 do d same 4 gibbs? Why? Guys, just leave dis lad alone pls. Still, we all r gooners ai?

Its not his Fault if He’s Injured lol. He didn’t Buy a Hernia. He’s 21 and a first team EPL LB. He’s only 21 and he loves the Club. Its just an unlucky streak.

im sick of people talking shit about diaby, he is a fantastic player who can dominate a midfield on his day, yes he is injured alot but thats not his bloody fault! i think its more to do with the tippy tappy training methods they go through which clichy exposed, hardly any weights or physical contact in training is bad preperation for the english premiership as for people bitching about how much he earns, what do you want him to say? “oh dont give me that much i hardly play” dont be stupid! when fit he is a french international first teamer!!! look at the wages of gazidas if you wonder what constitutes for money for doing fuck all.

What is it with these youngsters? Why can they not stay fit? Too soft in my opinion. Get some real hard men in our squad, like we used to have , Adams, Keown etc.
January-Samba Cahill Vertonghen- have aserious look AW.

Kick a man when he’s down! That’s not the Gooner way people. The guys live to play. Playing in the ELP, CL or whatever, gives them a bigger buzz than the pay check. They love it! So what’s with the crap implying Gibbs (or whoever) is getting injured purposefully to make easy money? Thats a load of horse manure. No player wants to be sidelined – not on the bench, not injured. They all want to show their skills, win matches and achieve something. So give the lad a break. I’m sure he’s not happy about not playing either.

If one reads some of the comments you would think that players choose to be injured. Gibbs is a young player and deserves our support to develop into a world class player. AW and the medical team have my full support keep working the young man’s fitness.

Sadly a huge part of being a professional football is to actually play and be fit..unfortunately Gibbs is not so he really shouldn’t be playing for us..especially as he’s not exactly proved himself to be anything but quite average

Well everybody gets injured, even in other clubs, why they are kept is they are quality players, if RVP had been disposed of because of his injuries would u be seeing what you see now? Let’s keep faith in them, one day the will surprise everybody.

No player wished to get injured, dont be insencitive. it is like your best friend losing his mother and you blame him for his mother not being present on your wedding.
Guys this lads want to play as much as they are happy to have decent salaries,
Look at their body language when they are being stretched out of the field, and you will realise that most of it is not the physical pain, but its the psycho-logic aspect of not being able to doing what they love most: play and please the fans. and keep improving, win-
Arsene has kept him in the club for a reason.
Support, console and encourage the injured guys or say nothing at all, because blaming them for being injured is just a prove of the kind of fans you are: Inhuman

Its sad the injury has taken this long. Bt the best think is we av a much more enthusiastic Santos. All i do is wish him quick recovery so that Santos may not be overworked into injuries
