Koscielny – Djourou is my perfect partner
The Frenchman Laurent Koscielny moved to Arsenal in the summer to be the main partner to Thomas Vermaelen in the Gunners defence, with Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou as backups, but he only played a couple of games alongside Vermaelen before the Belgian was ruled out with an achilles injury.
Since then he has was variously paired with the other two until Squillaci himself suffered a hamstring injury and the partnership with Djourou was born out of necessity. The two of them suddenly clicked and Arsenal have started keeping clean sheets again.
Koscielny believes that he has found his perfect partner. “We have been playing together in the centre for a while now.” he said. “He speaks French so it’s a big help for me. The communication is very good between us and we compliment each other very well.
“We understand each other almost without talking which is the most important thing. When one of us comes out, the other one covers and it’s working really well.
“I am enjoying playing with him. However, if the team defends very well it’s because everybody works hard when we don’t have the ball. All the clean sheets we are getting at the moment are very good for the confidence.”
The next three games will also be left to this defensive pairing after Squillaci was red-carded in his comeback game, but Koscielny is also aware that he himself has to stop his disciplinary problems, having been sent off twice already this season.
“It’s something I need to improve and work on. Last season in France, I was only booked twice in the whole season and red carded once.” he continued.
“Sometimes, I like showing to my forward that I’m there but there is obviously a way to do that and I need to be more cautious and occasionally use my judgement better when making challenges.”
Until Vermaelen is confirmed as being totally fit again, all three remaining centre-backs will have to be extra careful. Arsenal certainly can’t afford to lose either Koscielny or Djourou at the moment, especially in the next three games….

these two certainly communicate well with each other.Vermaeleen would take time even if his return is near..At the moment we are on the brink on calamity…

Wenger should be blamed and crucified if we have problems owing to defensive inadequacies. Why will he be depending on that clown squilaci who has been more bad than good to Arsenal. All the games we have lost in the league so far was with him playing. Djorou has played over 12games now losing only 1 yet Wenger can’t see it. This season is our best bet with Chelsea gearing to do us a favour by beating United. Wenger shld be ready for the fans wrath

Squillacci is RUBBISH, could not defend for France against RSA conceding 3 goals, cannot defend against league one side, cannot defend against championship side and definitely a none starter in the premier league, will he be good enough against Barcelona.
The rest of the team knows he is rubbish, but Wenger insists on playing this half wit.
Four year contract for 30 year old never have been out of sorts defender, is this not against Arsenal or Arsene policy? Or does this only apply to players that can get contracts elsewhere like Gallas, Pires, Lungberg,…?

Yes, Squillacci is out of sorts but, I don’t think his contract is for 4yrs. Can ADMIN or anyone out there confirm this, pls?
So, the Jan window has come and gone. Surprise, surprise (NOT), AW did not signed the most needed CB. So, in case of any evetuality (ala Nasri), it’s got to be either CALAMITY Squillacci oy young and untested Miquel. Let’s hope and have faith in the team. Maybe winning the Carling Cup will represent some form of SUCCESS!!!

Football is positive game. Those of us who are gunners should desist negative comments about our team.there are no perfect teams, not even Barca.They lose, too. I will not be surprised if thrash them in 15 days time. How many coaches can run a club the way Wenger does and still be among the very best in Europe. We are over critical of the man. Let hope for the best.

Squilacci is total shit, Koscielny has improved so much, and Djourou is such a dominant presence. Kos and Djourou have formed a very good partnership I feel.

I am not comforted with Squillaci. he’s slow, can’t read a game. As Koscielny said, Djourou is a good partner if we really would like to win something this season.
