Kroenke buys again! Just 17 shares away from Arsenal takeover!
It has just been announced that Stan Kroenke has bought another 25 shares in Arsenal, taking him to just 17 shares away from making a takeover bid.
The financial website Bloomberg reported it in the last hour. The article said: Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) — U.S. investor Stan Kroenke bought 25 more shares in Arsenal, bringing him within 17 shares of the level where he’d have to make a takeover bid for the English Premier League soccer club.
In a statement, parent company Arsenal Holdings Plc said it received notification that director Kroenke on Dec. 17 acquired the shares at 8,500 pounds ($13,700) each — a total of 212,500 pounds.
Kroenke now holds 29.9 percent — just below the 30 percent holding that would trigger a mandatory takeover bid for the north London team.
Kroenke has a beneficial interest in, and controls voting rights over, 18,649 ordinary shares, Arsenal said. Based on the total shares outstanding, an additional 17 would put him over the bid threshold.
The American owns the Denver Nuggets basketball team, the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche and Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids.
On Dec. 11, Arsenal said Red and White Securities Ltd. — the investment vehicle of Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov — raised its stake to 26.07 percent, the second-biggest holding.
There’s been long-running media speculation that Kroenke or Usmanov will make a bid for Arsenal.
Surely he must be serious about making a takeover? Why else would he keep buying any shares that become available?
