Lack of height no longer an issue for Arsenal – Watch out West Brom!
The last few seasons have seen Arsenal looked upon as a fragile, diminutive side with a lack of height and strength. The likes of Patrick Viera could once provide that but since then, Wenger has been accused of amassing a squad that is too short to fight.
Various reports have been written in the past saying that Arsenal are “shrinking”, referring to the team’s average height decreasing for a couple of seasons. However, despite these sorts of claims still not completely absent, the opposite seems to be occurring.
The Arsenal team that played Chelsea – and smashed them 5-3 – had an average height of 1.83m, or just over 6ft. Stoke City, who are often coupled with Route One football consisting of throw-ins and long-balls, are usually one of the first teams to be associated with height. However, their starting line-up in their 3-1 win over Newcastle last week – which included Peter Crouch – averaged 1.84m, a mere centimetre more than Arsenal’s.
These sorts of numbers do suggest that Arsène Wenger’s men can be pleasing on the eye whilst still offering height and power across the pitch.
West Brom conceded the most goals from set-pieces last season (30) but Arsenal are among the worst in that category this season, along with the Baggies. If the Gunners can make the most of their height at both ends, all three points could well be theirs.

It was an issue in the past but our height is fine considering Verm, song, kos, and per all have the ability to get a head on the ball. That said, I’d like to see vertonghen bought in January. He can provide strength in depth at three key positions at arsenal. He’s the perfect fit

I don’t think height is an issue it’s in the timing and determination look at Tim Cahill for Everton.Verm and Kos both have this and we have one or two others who can hold there own in this area.

how d hell can u question d commitment of alex song on d pitch….for me he has argubally d most consistently growing player for d past 3 years…he does all d dirty work in d middle nd provides a super shield to our back 4…dis year he hs grown in his attacking stature bringin his assist count to 3…

Song has been great for arsenal, every year he keeps improving. And I don’t fault him for trying to create something with his passes at least he tries unlike arteta.

Rate song but he gives away a shockin ammount of free kicks in dangerous areas though and usually always in the last minute , attacking mid in transfer window gorcuff/gotzee and a striker benzema would be an instant hit.

West Brom no prbolamo we got a sick and developing team growing every game however i still belive that arshavin has had his time at the gunners and its time to replace him with someone like Gotze or podolski. Also charmack has deffently got to go and we can spend some of that 35 million we got from fabregas on some decent striker for a back up for van persie such as Pato or kaka or even neymar….
But hey we still got a ok team
