Lee Dixon Is Embarrassed Watching Arsenal – He’s Not The Only One!
Lee Dixon is becoming an embarrassed man watching his beloved Arsenal, aren’t we all, but unfortunately he does not see things getting any better and he has his doubts on whether Arsene Wenger can guide the side to a top eight finish. A top eight finish sounds great right now, but that would not even be good enough for the Europa League.
Speaking today Dixon said, “I think top four is out of their reach now, I really do, so you are looking at top six. The way they are playing, can they reach the top eight? It is difficult for them because they are not showing any consistency in performances. There are a lot of pluses and it’s not all doom and gloom, but ultimately it all falls back to the same thing.”
The same old thing of simple defending. Dixon added, “They are frail and they can concede goals from schoolboy errors. Until they stop that they will carry on being frail and that’s the worrying sign. It is getting embarrassing. Arsenal get themselves into positions where they are the better team in midfield for big chunks of the game, but defend like schoolboys by giving two goals away and numerous other chances that can be avoided.”

At the start of the second half yesterday there looked only one winner of the game and that was Arsenal, but you just knew that if we didn’t score Spurs would get a couple of decent chances, and they did.
Dixon went on to say, “The second goal was a great strike by Walker, and the keeper was beaten by the swerve of the ball, but it came from a throw-in where there was no danger whatsoever and they just let Sandro run into the box without anybody getting within five yards of him. You can pick the positives out of the midfield which was a lot more coherent than Spurs at times, and Francis Coquelin played well, but it’s all wasted. They can complain about the handball for Van der Vaart’s goal, but it could have been avoided 30 seconds before with basic defending.”
Coquelin did play well, but watching Scott Parker yesterday I cannot understand why we did not make a move for him. Dixon is right when he says basic defending is where the majority, if not all, of our problems come from. I am not alone in saying that I wish Arsene Wenger would swallow his pride and ask someone like Steve Bould or Martin Keown to help the current crop of defenders. I’m sure they would be glad to help.

Lee Dixon is right! Since March 2011, we have just won 4 out of approx 18 league games. That is relegation material!
Arsenal are now 15th position in the league. Sunderland are 1 point behind us and if they beat us on Sunday (dont be surprised if Bendtner scores), we could find ourselves in the bottom three.
Maybe that is acceptable to those fans who still support AW but it is DEFINITELY NOT for true fans of the club!
We have lost key players (and will continue to do so), weaknesses in the team has not been sorted out for years, no plan b, no proper reivestments into quality players etc etc.
From the business perspective as well, Arsenal are f**ked if they continue like this! Not qualifying for CL means loss of MAJOR income! It will make it hard to attract top players (not that we do now anyways), sponsors etc etc. If they can’t fill the stadium as people don’t renew/ buy the bloody high priced tickets, they would lose income there as well! Maybe they would be forced to reduce the price, which means lower income!

“WE ARE ALL GOONERS IN THE END” never thought the day would come where I would say this but at the moment I truly wish I wasn’t, we look absolutely pathetic at the back and now that Sagna is out we will become even more frail I couldn’t agree more with Lee Dixon we get ourselves into such good positions on attack but always fail to take advantage of these chances its just not good enough its so sad to me to have to say this but if you look at the top sides in the Premier League at the moment every chance they get they will take advantage of with open arms we seem to lack that killer instinct to put away simple opportunities and then make the most basic schoolboy errors at the back its a recipe for disaster, with Jenkinson being the only viable replacement for Sagna it is going to be a truly harrowing and depressing 3 months ! There’s much truth to what he’s saying, but on the VDV handball: that’s two dodgy goals conceded already this season, both of which have come in games in which we have lost by a single goal. If it keeps going at this rate, we will concede 10 or 11 incorrect goals this season – I doubt many other sides will concede as many, and I’m positive none of the other top sides will. If we don’t make a fuss about it, refs will be under no pressure to give the correct decision – however justifiable some of the criticisms about the side are, why should we just stand for being handicapped like that??

We getting worse and worse. That Arsenal I know is gone. All I wish is we get a new manager. Bergkamp will be my prefer manager and 2nd manager will be Keown/Dixon/Adams who can create magical defences. Imagine Bergkamp masterplan attackers and Keown/Dixon/Adams create solid defenders.

Well said Neil Moxon (above) as well as Lee Dixon. Wenger won many of his Arsenal trophies because he inherited the old George Graham defence. Even then there had to be a crisis meeting at which Tony Adams explained to the whole team that they could only defend successfully if the back 4/5 were protected by the whole team.
Now all we hear is ” I will never abandon my attacking principles !” And even now some fans still think the sun shines. The whole obsessive Wenger culture is deeply rooted throughout the club and will take a lot of changing.
And another thing … I believe that the Arsenal coaching staff made a video to convince Wenger we should buy Parker. No way … he doesn’t buy anyone of 30 plus nor give the existing ones (if any left) a 2 year contract eg. Pires.

I don’t know how we got here, It is so scary and very annoying.I was watching a football sport round up here in Lagos this morning, and the sport commentators laughed at my team as failures,it was so bad that I was highly angry and truly embarrased.the painful part is that we will definitely finish way below 4th place and that means mid table. The fear is that by next season are we going to be able to get back into top 4 contention? look at liverpool, since there fell out of the top 4, it has been very difficult for them to get back into it. My advice is that we should leave the club alone and get a life for ourselves by doing our businesses and let the club crumble. At least by that time the reality of our situation will be obvious to the wenger and the board. As for solution,that is if it matters again,one thing should be done that is get DAVID DEIN BACK!

AW inherited a rock solid defense and added flair players to it. What he failed to do is replace them with players of equal quality. The cheap egotistical little twerp replaced them with crap players. wtf how could Lehman be replaced by Almunia who cost us at least 12 points each season because of his negligent goalkeeping. As a result we have lost our star players and replaced them with rubbish.
The defense has been screaming out for a overhaul and all Wenger does is buy midgets, what we need is some big hulking brutes like Keown and Adams who could scrap with the best of them. Wenger needs to swallow his pride and get a defensive coach and some quality defenders, George Graham built from the back and Wenger needs to do the same.
I am embarrassed watching the crap my beloved club are churning out, in any other top flight club Wenger would already have been given his P45, but our greedy board are only interested in fleecing the fans and filling there coffers. They don’t give a monkey about winning anything. Gazardis should be sacked the twat and David Dein bought back

Actually I don’t think bendtner can play because the league rules have changed so players can’t play against their parent club in league matches.
All this about wenger inheriting a great defence, while true, that’s only half the story: Wenger then went on to create the greatest PL team of all team, of which none of those greats were starters for arsenal. Apart from Parlour and Keown, that side came purely from arsenal under Wenger.

We all agree that as gunners, the last thing we shall loose is hope. But hope does not come out nowhere. It is built over time with solid substance, the performance and lineup of our team. Look what we have now, none of those.
I still have faith in Wenger’s quality. He may succeed in Real Madrid or Chelsea easily as he is a good coach. He is, on the other hand, a poor manager. Either he is personally enjoying all these pressure and cheap-spending nonsense or he can not stand up to the board and ask to do the right thing for the club. In another words, he is a coward the latter case.
It is for this sense our club needs a change, not just “yes, we can” for six years. Either someone that can kick the sorry ass of the money-pinching board or a completely new board that knows how to run a sport club.
It hurts so much to see top talents at their peak, like Fabregas and Nasri, leaving. Taking their perspective, it is the club that failed to offer the “hope” that all of us need. Once RVP leaves, he will be followed by Willshere and Walcott. You can not help ask youself what is left to love, the style, the performance or the memory?

We have too many lazy forwards…. If our attacking style is like barcelonas then so should our defensive style. Berkamp in to teach the WHOLE team how to defend, maybe even conditioning too so we dont have an injury every other match.

Not a bad squad is it. The problem is NOT the players but how the players interact. We have done well in games the previous 2 seasons without Fabregas/Nasri. Of course losing them + Eboue, Clichy, Bendtner, Denilson, Vela and bringing in several new players is a huge issue.
Arsenal made the mistake of NOT investing in back up for Cesc and Nasri. We “knew” Cesc was leaving, it was only a matter of when. We should have brought in replacement in 2010 or January 2011 and eased them into playing football the Arsenal way.
I have been supporting Arsenal for 40+ years and it has been ups and downs. During the ´70s and ´80s – frustration was the standard. We´ve been spoiled by the successes in mid ´90 – 2005.
Szczesny is looking the part, Song is probably the best DM in EPL, Coquelin is doing a Wilshere, Mertesacker is fitting into the team and plays better than in the beginning.

Bendtner can’t play against us in league games THANK GOD!!

So Dixon is ignoring the handball yesterday and the fact the ref allowed Spurs player to extend his celebration into the crowd?
We outplayed Spurs with a weakened team. That is promising. The thing I don’t get is how Dixon keeps nit picking about the defence which is great compared with previous seasons. There is MUCH improvement there.
Our league position is down to unfair ref decisions, bad luck and injuries. I know that other teams will have these things during the season and that it evens out, but Dixon for some reason keeps trying to be neutral because of his pundit job, but without realising it sounding biased AGAINST Arsenal – by being excessively critical to give the impression of neutrality.

what kind of statement is that? its as if to say that Arsenal are not allowed to enjoy being successful. When you are that successful, a normal person would have maintained that success, stepped it up even more and take the club to greater heights – NOT take the club backwards.
Arsenal has now experienced its worst league start in 58 years, not forgetting the biggest trashing since 1896! All this on the clubs milestone 125th year and AW’s 15 year in charge.

I’ve never been more down about any football club, including Burgess Hill Town F.C. Pathetic mental strength. I genuinely think the dressing room would have been better and ultimately the performances is the sale of Emmanuel Eboue. He was an un-sung hero at the club.
I will never lose faith in Wenger though. Yes he was handed the best defence, however he signed:
Patrick Vieira – payed 3 million. Sold for 20 Million. Never the same player after the departure.
Thierry Henry – 8 Million. Sold for 16.75 never the same player. The list goes on…
He will buy a 15 year old french kiddy who ill turn in to the best player in the world soon. Untill then we wait and stay by our club.

The problem is the arsenal fans.No other club in the world would go this long with out trophies and the fans remain this quiet and this supportive plus buy the most expensive tickets in the world.

Never thought I’d say it but Wenger isn’t the right man for our club any more… Times have changed, the game has changed, players have changed…Wenger hasn’t. The board are too old and short sighted, only interested in making money, exploiting us with insane ticket prices whilst consistently failing to deliver on promises and on the pitch. Wenger out, board out, Dein back in!

I had a feeling this season wouldn’t be the best.8th place,I’m thinking 12th if wenger thinks we still have a big squad.actually we do have a big squad bt no quality.if we finish 8th we will surely loose more players who want to play in the CL.truth be told if you work for me and I’m getting loses ill surely change the management. We forget we are arsenal.wenger has not spent money on a quality player for this yr his spent money in pl clubayers who will be professional in the next 4-5yrs.so. dnt b in a rush for silverware.you know I’m a patient man.patient enough for silverware bt nt patient to see wenger managing my beloved club.

We try to copy Barcelona style of play but we never work together as a unit like Barcelona. Every season if need be we should buy quality to supplement the team but the board so stingy. The result catastrophe.Wenger to soft to the player even when they made mistake would this happen to Sir Alex . Hell No. That why Sir Alex a mile away from Wenger. Enough talking… to all gooners just go out there and demonstrate at Emirates let the Boards know how we feel. Embarassment has a limit.
