Let’s raise our glasses to Professor Wenger!
Here I have another Guest Post from the ever-optimistic Emma Uzo, who is a gentleman from Nigeria (sorry about the mistake, at least its understandable!). After his plea to Gooners to start supporting Manuel Almunia yesterday, today he is saying that we should all celebrate having such a mild-mannered professor as the manager of Arsenal. Over to you Mr Emma……
1001 GUN SALUTE FOR PROF. ARSENE WENGER
‘Arsene what?’ That was the funny headline in the (usually dumb) English media that greeted the arrival of a certain Frenchman at Highbury. In their little minds they wondered aloud “What could a skinny, funny looking, big spectacle wearing Frenchman, whose CV shows that he migrated from JAPAN of all places, do to outwit the Scottish mafia?” For them, it was the beginning of an end for the Gunners. Less than 14 years after, the resounding effect of the humble beginning is, simply put, AWESOME!
A man with an strict adherence to high ethos both on and off the pitch, Arsene Wenger’s uncompromising loyalty to the original tenets and principles of the founding fathers of this beautiful game has seen the boiler-plate 1-0, extremely boring Arsenal, evolve into a team of artists who effortlessly treat billions of football followers to 90mins of crisp, sexy, short passing and traffic free football, never seen in the UK before.
With such admiringly stubborn adherence to football artistry and devoid of the annoying and sleep inducing kick and follow, bone crushing, one way traffic football common amongst British teams, Le Prof, as he is fondly called, has racked up an enviable 71.5 goals per season (that includes this season although 4 matches old) in the premier league alone! Sometimes I pause and wonder, if all other team in the league play with same principles, premier league football would just be what we wish it was; Entertainment!
You can think many players you wish had the honour of scoring that milestone goal, or how you dreamt the goal was taken. But please pause for a moment and think about the man that went home with the medal. Alexander Song Billong is a real life evidence of what we stand for. An unknown star plucked out early life, despite ridicule we waited for this Youngman from the heart of Africa to assume his place as a defensive midfielder of repute. So after so much work from the Prof, when the gray headed man told his mates he was getting a goal in the match against Bolton and with the calm the brilliant manner the he did it, the record book could only read one thing, 1000!
Everyday I pray we end our trophy drought, but ask me if am willing to sacrifice the very principles that make us who we are, I’ll simply tell you that I will die in the world of football when Arsenal wins all competitions playing like the team managed by “the loud mouthed one”.
So wherever you are, pop the champagne, join me as I raise my glass and shout 1001 happy cheers to the Professor of football, HIS EXCELLENCY PROFESSOR ARSENE WENGER!
Hip, Hip………..

My Father had been an Arsenal fan all his life. He absolutely loved Wenger and what he had done for the club. Wenger has his faults for sure but anyone that suggests he should be replaced is an idiot!

i’m a bit worried by all the excitement and over the top celebrations going on after just 5 games into the season. sure, watching the gunners trash blackpool n braga 6 – nil was fantastic, and beating blackburn was great too, but i’d rather we keep it grounded cos its far too early to start celebrating and the opponents we’ve faced haven’t been a stern enough test for our gooners yet. bolton were trashed twice by us last season so i dont know why people were scared of them.. blackburn was the only tough opponent so far. we haven’t achieved anything yet, besides some beautiful displays of football. so i urge all ye gooners to not get carried away.

You know if Wenger would have signed a quality ‘keeper, I would think our chances for success are really high.
Let’s not get carried away, we do look very good going forward, but the true tests will be against Chelsea and United and whether or not our dodgy host of goalkeepers can cope!

Has anyone ever seen or heard Wenger criticize any of his players in public, no matter how badly they perform. He backs his players at all times. That people is CHARACTER. Fergie was quick to criticize Nani in the Fulham match for missing the penalty. He has also put the club in a very strong financial position which was very evident by fending off interests from Barca for Fabregas. He is also a person with forethought. When everyone was splashing the cash buying stars, He saw the fair play rule coming into existence. Clubs like Chelsea, ManU and Liverpool will have to sell players to balance books. He has also given us a state of the art stadium which clubs like Liverpool are still trying to build. He has an excellent set of scouts to unearth talents and turn them into stars of the future – Song, Vermaelen, Anelka, Henry, Pires and the list goes on and on. Not to mention that he rejuvenated the careers of Tony Adams and a lot others. He has built an excellent academy for the future. When Fergie, with all his accomplishments calls it a day, will know that he has not left the club in a good state and his successor will have a lot of trouble. But when Wenger calls it a day, we all will know that he has left the club in a better position for the future. Wenger is Arsenals God. Hail Wenger!!!!

For some of us, our glasses are permanently raised for the professor for the beautiful game which he advocates and engineer. Trophies will come but we won’t wait till it comes before we raise our glasses. The wenger version of the game is the way it should be played if it is to remain a sport. The other way advocated by Big, Fat Sam is more of warfare than sport. I gave up watching wrestling and boxing because of the brutality I see in them. If brutality is left to prevail, if the Wenger way is abolished, I will certainly give football up. For me and many like me, trophies cannot compensate for beauty and entertainment.

The best gift for AW and for the club is UEFA Champions league cup!!! If we win this season the EPL and UEFA CL(i hope) then he will once again prove that he is the best manager in the universe! Why this year? Because of the young squad, he would show that with young squad you can play the best football!!! It would be his best season ever! He has already proven that Arsenal can win the leagua without lost! So for us its no problem, just we need to keep on supporting the team! And then they will lead us to the Glory!!! Come on Arsenal:)
