Liverpool beat Arsenal to sign English starlet
The Arsenal youth manager Liam Brady has been trying for months to persuade the QPR starlet Raheem Sterling to move to the Arsenal academy, and it was thought that the youngster was keen to remain in London to be close to his friends and family.
But it has now been revealed that Liverpool have won the race for the 15 year-old wonderkid, and, according to Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow, Sterling will join the Reds Academy at Kirby.
“The success of our academy is vital to the future progress of the club and we have made clear that we will invest in outstanding young talent,” he said.
“Raheem is a very exciting young English player whose progress was being closely monitored by many other leading clubs and I’m delighted he’s joining us.
“Frank McParland (the Liverpool academy director) and his staff have done a great job in bringing him to Liverpool.”
I thought Arsenal were nailed on to sign this exciting young Londoner. Especially as I thought the new rules meant that the club had to be closer than a two-hour train ride away from their training ground.
How did Liverpool get around that one then?

Any youngster who can choose Liverpool’s academy over Arsenal has less than half a brain so, good riddance.
Why would anyone wanting to develop go to Liverpool? it is not like they have a great track record for bringing out youngsters after Benitez arrived…
Oh! Liam, being Irish you should have won that one. If there`s one thing `the Scousers` will always beat Arsenal at it`s `bullshit` and I should know, I married one.
