Lyon boss – I rejected Arsenal offer for Gourcuff
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that he was interested in buying the Lyon playmaker Yohann Gourcuff in the summer, reportedly as a straight replacement for Cesc Fabregas, but he said that he withdrew his interest when he was informed about the French international’s injury.
But today, the Lyon boss Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that Wenger DID make an offer, but he turned it down because he believed that Gourcuff was committed to making a success of his time at Lyon.
Aulas said: “There was an offer from Arsenal and I said no. Simply because he has a five-year contract, he wants to succeed here and I believe in him.”
“He joined Lyon last year, in the time after the World Cup, and it was not easy,” Aulas continued. “It is not a mystery – a writer needs his hand, a footballer needs his heel.”
With Wenger’s record of buying (or developing!) injury-prone players, the last thing that Arsenal could possibly want is yet another new player to park on the the treatment room table!

Gourcuff,Hazard and all the so called players we are linked with must be sky sports working overtime to make a story,i can only see one maybe two at a push coming in,we need a lot of work doing during the summer.NO TROPHYS NO PRICE RISE ON TICKETS.

Stale news… though highlights AFC’s lack of determination to ‘rebuild’… AFC are losing brand equity fast… major squad investment IS required… two billionaires on board yet Gazidis and co. are still crying poor… to be honest if AFC do not buy at least two marquee men [players +EUR25mio] in the not too distant future, in order to signal AFC’s on-pitch ambitions… then Wenger’s efforts over the last 15 years to transform this club into a football powerhouse will erode quite quickly… last thing I want to see is AFC 11/12 = Man City 03/04, and vice versa… that would disgust me as a long time AFC supporter!! However, as the current board/shareholders have created a very lucrative ponzi scheme, even Madoff would be proud of, in the form of AFC, on the back of Wenger’s genius… it is unlikely that these chaps in their ivory tower will sign off on a CAPEX of +EUR50 mio in one transfer window to help instill yet more confidence within the existing squad, and a more bullish outlook… that is without player sales to offset new acquisitions… or any new or improved revenue streams to cater for the significant outlay… two billionaires on board, yet no bottle in the boardroom… as the billionaire AFC really requires in the boardroom to help push the club closer to the league leaders has been effectively barred – Usmanov where are you now????

wenger new Cesc was leaving a year before.. So he should have gone for this player before he signed 5 year contract.
It seems while Arsenal tries to spend wisely, becuase of lack of advanced planning they are compromising on quality.
if they had brought some one a year before he could have jelled well & also Arsenal could have dome wihout one of the last moment players they signed. yes they could have payed 1 year salary for that player but could have improved team

any public transfer knowledge is never true, unless they’re about to have a medical. Wenger doesn’t like the buzz around players, maybe it increases the price and makes for a tougher negotiation so they back out. We’ll sign a few unknowns I think.

Arsene should spend just 30 mill thiS jan on just two players. Vertogen and marvin martin only. Then speaak to hazard and m’vila’s agent and have them to sign an agreement that if we achieve our target for then season, then they have to sign…. If hazard and m’vila are also happy with that also, then we focus on target which will be champs league spot. Get walcott,persie,vermaelan and song to sign, if it means wenger having to give them some of his wages just to get them to stay.I’m not saying all this is possible but wenger spend 30mill on just those two players, would be a good idea. Get bould,adams and martin for defence and teach our defence some old school defending like how stoke city defend now. Get bergkamp to teach our strikers tecnique and finishing. Also teach them about class. We won’t win the prem league until 2013 but that’s good cause right now we can focus on the important things before next season comes. We need to win the league cup. We need to treat it like it’s the champs league. Get the fans blood pumping and happy. The min we win the league cup, the curse will be lifted. Look at last season… We were about to do it but arsene and the players underestimated birmingham. Even us as fans thought we were gonna win it. But oh well. We don’t need any billionaires cause we’re not a club that waste money on players but we do need david dein to take pressure off wenger. Pat rice needs to retire cause he’s done all he can as an assistant. Time to call on another legend for the No2 job
